SYSOP INSTRUCTIONS FOR "The Story-Line"
It's very simple to set up your own Story-Line. The program is designed to
allow multiple authors to create stories on-line, each person adding to what
has gone before. On Muskrat's Den it has been quite amusing, and some of
the writing is nearly good enough to publish (in fact, I may upload one of
our stories as an example when it's finished).
Here is the procedure to set up YOUR Story-Line.
1. Create a new folder for all the Story-Line files. I use the name "STORY"
for my folder. Use whatever you like. Put the folder on ANY valid drive,
though I recommend against a floppy, it IS possible to run this with a
floppy - just slow.
2. Edit the file, STORY.SET to your own preferences....
and this is what makes using a floppy silly...STORY.SET *MUST* be
in the root directory of Drive C:. (it could be a RamDisk if you
don't have a hard drive, just as long as it is Drive C:)
There are only 4 items in this file...line one is the name of your BBS,
or whatever else you want to display when the user starts to use this
program...line two is the full pathname for the folder mentioned above.
Lines 3 and 4 are where you put the titles for your two stories,
these titles appear on your initial Story-Line Menu.
3. Place the files "FIRST.COM" and "SECOND.COM" in the story folder.
4. Place the file "STORY.COM" in your MENU_80 or HELP_80 folder...wherever
you keep the 80 column system help files.
5. Run SYSEDIT.TOS and add a command to access The Story-Line, example:
User Sys Lev Message File to access
Key Key
W - 1 Write/Read The Story-Line|| story
This is all that is required, the program will create the files for your
stories and maintain them as it runs......the author of each section is
displayed at the end of his input......if you want to remove this later when
you publish the great work of art a simple text editor is required.
Watch for THE STORY-LINE, Version 2.0 - - coming soon [I hope].......
Keeps track of 20 different stories, 50 different authors
Allows jumping to end of story without reading, or reading partial...
also allows reading of NEW LINES only....
will allow sysop to set different levels to access individual stories,
so certain stories can be restricted for various reasons....
If you like this, call our BBS , send money, or cookies! or just drop
me a line on GEnie!
