////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Transcendence GEM User Editor By Jason Brunken - Lazy SysOp Software
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Setup:
The GEM User editor can be ran from your DATA folder with absolutely no
setup. However, if you would like to run it from another path you must
edit a simple 1 line data file 'USEREDIT.DAT' that resides in the same
path as USEREDIT.PRG.
----------------------CUT HERE-----------------------
C:\TRANSBBS\DATA
----------------------CUT HERE-----------------------
Simple eh? One line showing the full path to your data folder. Note that
there is NO TRAILING BACKSLASH. Also note that ALL of the following files
must be located in this path: USERS.DAT, USERS.IDX, and MASKS.DAT.
Usage:
The User Editor is self-explanatory and very easy to use (at least in my
opinion :^) ). It operates much like the user editor built into the
BBS itself, however, due to the nature of GEM, it makes editing users
and masks alot less painful. I won't go into the details of what every
function does.
Bugs:
The only bug that I know of in the program is under the 'Functions'
menu. When you select a user to edit, an 'up arrow' shows up after the
users name. I know what your thinking... Why didn't he just fix it?
Well, it seems to be a bug in the compiler so... no can do... Anyway, other
that a small cosmetic flaw, it causes no problems with program operation.
Misc:
At this point, the program only supports editing one user or mask at a
time. In other words, functions like applying a mask to all level 10
users are not implemented yet. However, I feel that this is only a
minor consideration. I did not want to hold up the release of the program
just to add multi-user functions, nor did I want to add the multi-user
features without taking the time to do them right.
The feature 'Edit User Online' *IS* functional, however, David and Wayne
are in the process of making the needed modifications so that Transcendence
will support the Gem editor. I would guess that this will be added within
the next two updates to the BBS program.
Future Support:
I intend to keep updating the gem user editor in the future as new
versions of Transcendence are released. I also will be adding new
features provided that I get some feedback from other Transcendence
SysOps as to what they would like to see added or changed. However, if
I don't get any more responce over this program than I got over my
'ListMaker' program, I may be less inclined to do so...
