Well, if that warning hasn't scared you enough, and you decide to use
the program anyway, here's some information on it.
Please note that for the program to work correctly, you must be in
medium resolution, and there must be a directory called ADDRESS on the
root directory of the drive that you wish the program to run from.
If by some odd chance, you haven't created one in the past, you must do
so before executing this program. The program will use that directory
to store the address files that you create. Please also note that this
program as is, will default to the A drive. Upon startup the program
will search for it's config file [address.cnf] on the A drive. Sorry,
but due to GFA basic, I couldn't get the path from which the program
runs, so it must remain on A drive. But after it reads it's .cnf file,
it will use whatever drive that you had previously selected under
Config for it's data files.
Included in the .LZH file should be this notice, the ADDRESS.BAS
program itself, the ADDRESS.CNF file, and the GFA Basic GFABASRO.PRG,
which is the run-only version of the GFA basic interpreter. You must
double click this program, and then select ADDRESS.BAS from it's file
selector to get it to work. I know, I should have written it in C, but
I don't have the time right now. Now on with the show.......
Desk - The only thing under this menu is About Address, which will
display some credits for this program.
File - There are several options under this menu....
List - will display a directory of the address files [all
files having a .ADD extender] along with their time of
creation, and file size.
Print - This is what you would select, if you wished to print an
address label from one of your .ADD files. You will be
given a chance to set up your printer before any action
is taken. Please note that the program is set up to use
an Epson printer. You will have to experiment on where
to position the label. On my printer [Star NP-10] the
top of the label should be made flush with the top of
the ribbon. Using 3 1/2" W x 15/16" H labels works the
best. You can get them at any Radio Shack. Cat no.
26-1328.
Edit - This will allow you to edit some or all of the
information in a currently existing .ADD file. When you
are done changing information, press "5" for No Change,
you will then be presented with a file selector to type
the name of your new address file. Do not type an
extender for the filename, as it will be added
automatically. You will be asked if you wish to overwrite
an existing file, should you type the name of an .ADD file
that is already on the disk.
Delete - Selecting this will present you with a file selector to
choose the name of the .ADD file that you wish to
exterminate. You will then be prompted if you are
sure. If you say yes, you will most likely never
see the file again, so be sure.
View - This will allow you to see the information that you have
entered in the .ADD file that you select. This is
useful prior to printing a label, if you wanted to see
just what you were going to print.
Config - This option will allow you to change the default drive
that the program will look in for it's ADDRESS directory.
Please note that this only changes the drive, not the
directory. You still need to have the ADDRESS directory
on the root level of the desired drive. You are allowed
to choose from drives A-P. If you enter a drive that does
not exist, then you will crash the program.
Quit - Rather self explanatory.
Create - There is only one option under this menu, that is to create
a new .ADD file. When you select this option, you will be
prompted for information that you would expect to find in a
person's mailing address. After entering the Zip code, you
will be shown the data you have entered, and asked if you
wish to save the file. If you make an error in entering the
information, save the file anyway, and then Edit it to
correct it. Once again upon entering the save file name, do
not type an extender, it will be added automatically.
I wrote this program, as you might expect to generate mailing labels.
I hate having to write addresses over and over on envelopes, and I
hate even more to go searching for the correct information. Although
I am basically lazy, I felt motivated enough to create this program.
I like the way it works, so if you don't it's too bad. It didn't
cost you anything right? Well, I may make revisions on it someday,
and I always welcome suggestions. This program is marketed as
PostCardware. Which means that registration is the cost of sending
me a postcard from wherever you live. It can be any type of
postcard, don't worry I can't be shocked. If you do send me a
postcard, I will put you on my registered list, and If you have an
account on GEnie, I will Email you updated versions for free, should
there be any.

Known bugs: None, at the moment. I have gotten rid of all those
that I have noticed. Hopefully there won't be any others. Ha Ha.
This program has been made as fool-proof as I care to make it. If you
get some sort of perverted thrill out of crashing my program by doing
really strange things than go ahead.

Acknowledgements:
All you hard-drive users out there should thank Walt Las [GEnie
W.Las] for it was because of him that I made it relatively easy to
change the drive and path for the ADDRESS program. You see he simply
hates programs that seem to have been written under the pretense that
hard drives do not exist. I cannot blame him.
I would also like to thank Walt Las and Mike McIlmoyle for being the
best friends that one could possibly hope for...
