REACTION - BY CORY CHAPMAN
Reaction is a game based on the arcade game "Ataxx". It is a
strategy board game. In order to win, two conditions must be met.
One, you have to have more pieces on the board than your opponent.
Two, the board must be filled or you must capture all of your
opponent's pieces.
There are two basic moves in Reaction. To start any move, you
must click on any one of your pieces. The first type of move
takes place when you then click on an empty square directly
adjacent to the piece you select. A new piece will appear on the
empty space selected. The other type of move takes place when you
select an empty square that is two spaces from the original piece.
The piece you select will move to the selected square rather than
generate a new piece in that square. You cannot move beyond two
squares away from the original piece.
After you move, all of the opponent's pieces (if any) surrounding
the square you move to will change colors and become your pieces,
thus the name Reaction.
Reaction is one of the few shareware games that has a computer
player. It is a worthy adversary, as I can only beat it 75% of
the time, and I wrote it. Two human players can also play, by
taking turns with the mouse.
This game is shareware. This means that it is yours to try, but
if you like it and want to see more programs like it, a small
donation ($10) to the author might brighten his attitude enough
for him to write some more games.
Payment should be sent to:

This program may be freely distributed as long as it is
accompanied by this file and this file is not modified in any way.
Reaction II:
Several things have been added to the original game that improve
on it greatly. These include 10 different boards (levels) on
which to play and 9 different computer players ranging from very
stupid to just as smart as the old version. Having different
boards to play on by itself adds greatly to the pleasure of
playing the game.
The new controls are fairly straightfoward. When you first run
Reaction II, you will see a panel in the middle of the board that
allows you to select the playing surface and the difficulty level
as well as the number of players (one or two, one meaning one
human player and the computer and two meaning two human players
head to head). To increase the level or difficulty, just click on
the apropriate word with the left mouse button. To decrease,
click with the right button. Clicking on the word players will
switch between one and two player mode. When you have things the
way you want them, just click on Start to begin the game. If you
are playing the computer, you will be the red player and you will
go first. Just click on one of your own pieces, and then on
another square according to the rules above, to move.
Have fun,
Cory
