ELECTRONIC JIGSAW PUZZLE V2.0
This program can be played from either low or medium resolution, and can use
pictures of either low or medium resolution regardless of the resolution you
started out in. High resolution is not supported at this time. JIGSAW can
use Neochrome, Degas, Degas Elite, and TinyStuff (my personal favorite)
formatted pictures. JIGSAW uses a large amount of memory so if you are using
a 520 ST and it won't run or you get a "Stack Overruns Heap" error message
you may have to free up some memory by removing desk accessories or TSR
programs.
GAME OPTIONS
------------
Size: You can select the following puzzle sizes:
Easy : 5 X 5 = 25 pieces
Normal : 8 X 8 = 64 pieces
Hard : 10 X 10 = 100 pieces
Border: Since some pictures don't use the whole screen, you can select a
border to make solving the puzzle easier.
No Border - Removes the border
Reg. Border - Creates a border
Alt. Border - Creates a border in a different color
NOTE: This option is cancelled each time a new picture is loaded and
must be reselected if you wish to use it with the new picture.
New Size: Since some pictures occupy only part of the screen, you may be stuck
with 15 squares, all of them solid white, with the remaining 10
squares containing the actual image you're trying to reconstruct. It's
almost impossible to find which square goes where just by guessing
since all the white squares look identical but are different in the
eyes of JIGSAW. The New Size option allows you to reduce the size of
the puzzle to just the part of the screen containing the image you
want to use. You simply select the upper left corner of the new
screen to be solved, and the lower right corner of the new screen.
When you play the game, the cursor will be restricted to the area you
defined.
NOTE: When you load in a new picture or change the puzzle size
(e.g. change from 5 X 5 to 8 X 8) the New Size option is cancelled
and you must reselect it again if you want to use it.
Rotation: If the picture you loaded has color rotation information, you can
select this option so that the colors rotate while you are solving
the puzzle.
Track Scores: You can tell JIGSAW not to check the High Score list by turning
this option off.
PLAYING THE GAME
----------------
You must first start out by loading in a picture. JIGSAW uses a different file
selector from the one that is "built-in". It requires NO keyboard interaction
and shows up to 400 files and subdirectories (the built in GEM file selector
only shows 100 which is a major limitation considering hard drive owners may
have up to 400 files per directory). Using the file selector is more or less
intuitive, however note that the shortcut to quickly select a file is to click
on the file with the right mouse button instead of double clicking on it.
JIGSAW takes the picture you select and slices it up into little pieces, and
then scrambles the pieces around. To play the game, you simply click on two
different pieces of the puzzle, and those pieces will swap places. When you
have gotten all the pieces back into their correct place you have won.
If you select a piece and then change your mind before selecting a second
piece, click on the same piece again and it will cancel that swap.
During the game you can press the right mouse button to pause the game so that
the clock will stop until you are ready to play again. While the game is paused,
you can also elect to peek at the puzzle solution or you can also give up.
At the end of the game, you will be told how long (in minutes and seconds) it
took to solve the puzzle and also the number of moves you made. You will then
be given a score based on every factor of the game.
If you scored higher than anyone else for that picture, you will be able to
enter your name in on a high score list. This list will keep track of scores
for up to 2000 different pictures. To clear out the High Score List, simply
delete the "JIGSAW.SCO" score file and a new one will automatically be created.
SHAREWARE NOTICE
----------------
Electronic Jigsaw Puzzle is a Shareware program, which means that if you
decide that you like it and want to continue using it, you must register your
copy of the program.
When you register your program, you will receive detailed and very useful
information on how the score is calculated in JIGSAW which will greatly improve
your game scores. You will also receive my heartfelt appreciation as well as
satisfaction in knowing that you are doing your part to help provide more
quality software for the ST.
The registration fee for JIGSAW is only $10.00. Please also include your name,
address, phone number, and the version of JIGSAW that you're using (the
version number is displayed right below the title when you first run JIGSAW).
If you find any bugs or have any comments about how the game can be improved
please let me know. When reporting bugs, please provide as much information
as possible, including the hardware you are using and any memory resident
programs or desk accessories which were installed.

If sufficient Shareware support is received, future improvements are planned.
One idea which is definitely planned is direct support for Macintosh pictures.
Any other suggestions for improvements would be greatly appreciated.
Suggestions from registered users will be implemented if possible, suggestions
from non-registered users are not likely to be considered with much seriousness.
