TENGLISH.DOC is a French-to-English translation by Douglas N. Buchanan
of TMONEY.DOC .
SARO Informatique Musicale presents:
TIME IS MONEY by Jerome Cabanis
T.I.M. is a desk accessory which does all conversion calculations
between tempo and note values expressed in hours, minutes, seconds, and
milliseconds. To use T.I.M. you must first copy the two files TMONEY.ACC
and TMONEY.RSC onto your boot disk outside the AUTO folder. When you
reboot, TIME IS MONEY will then be installed.
INSTRUCTIONS
All the parameters and screen boxes are active and accessible
with the mouse except the headings in the table.
To find a note value, click on TEMPO, type in the desired tempo
and press RETURN; or scroll the tempos with the arrows. All the note values
will appear with millisecond values in the corresponding NORMAL, DOTTED,
or TRIPLET columns of the table.
To find the total duration for a series of notes and/or rests,
first enter the tempo, then click on those notes or rests in the NOTE
and/or PAUSE columns. They will appear in order at the bottom of the
screen. The time displayed in the bottom right box (in seconds and
milliseconds) equals the total duration of the different notes and rests
written in the bottom left box. Below that time is the time-signature
corresponding to the chosen series of note and rest values.
eg. Tempo:92
Note Value: whole-note + eighth-note = 2935ms
or half-note + 2 quarter-rests + 2 1/16th-notes = 2935ms
In either case the corresponding bar length would be a measure of 9/8.
To erase the last note or rest entered, click on the box -1.
To erase all the notes and rests, click on ERASE.
To find a tempo from a note value with a known duration in ms, click on
the note duration time in the appropriate column, enter the new value,
then press RETURN.
eg. You want to know the tempo for a dotted quarter-note with a
known duration of 833ms. Click on the parameter in the DOTTED
column on the row corresponding to a quarter-note. The tempo
comes up immediately as 108.
By entering a tempo, a time signature, and the number of
measures, you can get the total duration in the SONG LENGTH box.
eg. A song of 150 bars in 3/4 time at a tempo of 135bpm will be
shown to last 3 minutes 20 seconds.
The small box to the right of SONG LENGTH
allows your choice of how the time units will be displayed.
In the preceding example 3 min.20 sec.= 200s or 200,000ms.
Alternatively, you can find the tempo which fits a known song length,
number of measures and time signature.
eg. A phrase that must last 48 seconds and contain 29 bars in 4/4
will be shown to have a tempo of 145.
In this accessory, all the boxes are interactive so you can obtain any
parameter as a function of the others.
HAVE FUN.
