Labels:text | letter | document OCR: In Florence, Leonardo consulted on numerous hydraulic projects for the Arno River. Here he charts the problems caused by a pair of weirs. An eddy behind the second weir has breached the embankment wall, while the main flow, diverted downstream, strikes the bank with such force that huge blocks have tumbled into the river. Leonardo's comments on the power of water might stand as a caption, as in Manuscript A, where he describes "hollows in which Map of Breakwaters and Eroded the water .. . excavates and enlarges those chasms . .. Embankment on the Arno River consuming and devouring whatever stands in its path, ca. 1504, pen and ink and watercolor changing its course in the midst of the ruin." 91/4 x 16 3/8 in.
