- Hayes Modem Tool
-
- The Hayes Modem Tool is a connection tool, for use with the Macintosh
- Communications Toolbox, that provides easy and complete access to the
- advanced features of Hayes modems. Settings provided by the tool are
- divided into five functional areas, accessible through a scrolling list of
- panels. Each area controls some aspect of the modem or the connection.
- Written to the specifications of the Macintosh Communications Toolbox, the
- Hayes Modem Tool can be used without modification by any program which
- supports the Macintosh Communications Toolbox. The Hayes Modem Tool has
- been designed for use with Hayes modems so that Hayes modem users can take
- full advantage of their modems through applications supporting the
- Macintosh Communications Toolbox.
-
- FUNCTIONALITY
-
- The five settings groups provided by the Hayes Modem Tool are:
-
- Connection Settings - These control general aspects of the connection to
- be made, and include such settings as dial or answer, phone number to be
- dialed, number of dialing attempts, and number of rings after which to
- answer.
-
- Modem Settings - These provide a simple means of configuring your Hayes
- modem. Users can make maximum use of advanced modem features without
- learning specific AT Commands. The Hayes Modem Tool translates screen
- selections into the appropriate commands of the Hayes Standard
- AT Command Set and issues them to the modem automatically. Settings
- include modem speaker setting and volume, modem timing parameters, and
- line monitoring options.
-
- Port Settings - These control aspects of the connection to be made such
- as transmission speed, flow control, character format, and port selection.
- The Hayes Modem Tool communicates with any device which registers itself
- with the Macintosh Communications Toolbox, including the internal Hayes
- Smartmodem 2400M and Hayes V-series Smartmodem 2400M.
-
- When using a Hayes modem, the maximum setting automatically configures
- the modem for the highest possible transmission speed supported by the
- connection. Port speed can also be limited to a specified rate for use
- over fixed-speed connections.
-
- V-series Settings - The Hayes Modem Tool fully supports the features of
- V-series system products, including flow control, CCITT V.42 and V.42bis,
- and CCITT X.32 (Dial X.25) single session. A user can easily configure
- the modem for choice of error-control and compression features, and need
- not worry about modem speed or flow control settings. Hayes modem
- products are automatically identified and the maximum supported speed is
- used for communication, including 38.4 Kbps for V-series ULTRA Smartmodem
- 9600 products.
-
- Setup Strings - For those settings which are not directly supported by
- the Hayes Modem Tool, use the Setup Strings feature to issue additional
- commands to your modem. AT Commands of your choice are issued
- automatically before making a connection or after ending one. Setup
- Strings can also be used with non-Hayes modems to access features
- implemented using commands not found in the Hayes Standard AT Command Set.
-
