  13. Why won't the administrator password work?

  16. The administrator password is not used at login time (when it asks you to 
  17. enter in a password).  In fact, you are NEVER prompted for the 
  18. administrator password.  Instead, it is used as part of the command you 
  19. want to execute.  For instance, the "\RESTART" command, which is used to 
  20. log everyone out of the chat room would be entered like this:

  27. How do I change where the log files are kept?

  30. In the chat room application, there are several STR# resources which 
  31. contain preferences for settings such as this.  To change the location of 
  32. the log files - you'll need to edit the STR# resource named "Log File 
  33. Names".  For instance, to have the chat room log Channel 1 to the file 
  34. "Channel 1 Chit Chat" in the folder "Chat Room Stuff" on "Macintosh HD".  
  35. You would change the first string in the STR# resource to:

  37. "Macintosh HD:Chat Room Stuff:Channel 1 Chit Chat"

  39. If you don't already have ResEdit, get it, you'll need it to set the 
  40. administrator password to something other than "admin".  Not to mention the 
  41. fact that it is a really handy utility that no macintosh user should be 
  42. without.

  47. How can I turn off or restrict the logging to one file?

  50. If you blank out the filename for the log file in the str# resource,
  51. the chat room will not open a log file for that channel. Alternatively,
  52. if you set all of the file names to the same filename, all the channels
  53. will be logged to the same file.

  58. Where can I get the latest version of Chat?

  61. The most up to date version of chat and the source code for chat will 
  62. always be available in "/pub/chat-20x" on the ftp site 
  63. "pluto.cc.umr.edu".  Chat will usually be available on the major FTP 
  64. archive sites as well.  (Sumex, Wuarchive, etc.)
