The SoftScreen Extension fixes a problem when using Timbuktu Pro 1.0 to control a Macintosh which does not have a monitor attached (a "headless server"). The problem occurs when Timbuktu Pro does not detect a video device and creates a screen in software. The problem results in guests being granted control access. The SoftScreen Extension creates a screen in software before Timbuktu loads preventing Timbuktu Pro from creating a screen.
You do NOT need this extension if the Timbuktu Pro host has a monitor. In addition, you do NOT need this extension if the headless server is a Quadra 700, Quadra 900, or Quadra 950.
If you are using Timbuktu Pro on a Macintosh not in this list which has no monitor attached, you should install the SoftScreen Extension in the headless server's System Folder (in Extensions, if you are using System 7).
The SoftScreen Extension must load before the Timbuktu Extension at startup. If you have renamed the Timbuktu Extension on your system, rename the SoftScreen Extension so that it loads before the Timbuktu Extension. The easiest method is to place several spaces before the name "SoftScreen."
