  2.                      Welcome to MAZE!
  3.  
  4. TO RUN MAZE:
  5.  
  6. Direct execution from your CD-ROM drive is recommended (so you 
  7. wonÆt need any of your hard disk storage).
  8.  
  9. 1. Insert the MAZE CD into your CD-ROM drive.
  10. 2. From Windows Program Manager, select "Run" from the "File" menu.
  11. 3. Click on "Browse" and select your CD-ROM drive.
  12. 4. Click on STARTWMG.EXE
  13. 5. Press ENTER twice.
  14.  
  15. For a slower computer, we recommend you install MAZE.
  16. 1. Follow steps 1-3 above.
  17. 2. Select SETUP.EXE
  18.  
  19. If you are running a resolution higher than 640x480, start MAZE 
  20. with "STARTWMG.EXE /B" to show only MAZE on a black background on 
  21. your screen.

  24. TO EXPERIENCE MAZE:
  25.  
  26. 1. Point and click on THE BEST FULL SCALE HUMAN MAZES, THE ART 
  27.    OF CONFUSION. GALLERY OF MAZE DESIGNS, LEGENDS & MYSTERIES, 3D 
  28.    VIRTUAL MAZEWALK, or AMAZING MAZE PRINTOUTS.
  29. 2. Voice help is available on all screens. Click on "face" icon 
  30.    in the upper right corner.
  31. 3. To move back to the main screen screen, click "Home."
  32. 4. To exit, click "Exit" icon in the lower right corner.

  35. TO WALK A 3D VIRTUAL MAZEWALK:
  36.  
  37. 1. Once in the 3D Virtual Mazewalk, Move the cursor to the walk. 
  38. 2. Holding down the left mouse button in the walk makes you move.  
  39. 3. To move forward, point the cursor higher on the walk; to move 
  40.    back, lower the cursor; to move left, move the cursor to the 
  41.    left, etc.  
  42. 4. Remember, you must hold down the left mouse button to move.
  43. 5. For simple mazes, click "Maze Presentation" for a bearings map 
  44.    to show where you are in the maze.  (Bearings are available only 
  45.    for simple mazes to help you learn.)
  46. 6. To leave the 3D Virtual Mazewalk, click in the screenÆs upper 
  47.    left corner or click on the icon below the 3D window.

  50. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
  51.  
  52. Processor: Minimum - 386, Recommended - 486 or higher
  53. Memory: 4MB RAM, Video: VGA 256 colors, CD-ROM Drive:
  54. Minimum single speed; recommended double speed, 
  55. Sound: MPC compatible (8-bit or higher), Operating 
  56. System: Any MPC compatible (DOS 3.3 or later, Microsoft
  57. Windows 3.1, etc.). Optional HP compatible printer for
  58. printouts, Mouse, No hard disk installation required.

  61. TROUBLE SHOOTING:
  62.  
  63. "Program does not work"
  64. - Close down all other software running in the Windows environment 
  65.   before running MAZE. If using a shell other than Windows Program 
  66.   Manager or a third party memory manager, disable before running 
  67.   MAZE.
  68. - Low memory: See "Out of Memory" below.
  69. - Display problem: Try using display driver with 640x480 and 256 
  70.   colors. If MAZE doesnÆt start in 256 colors, try starting it with:
  71.      STARTWMG.EXE /O   ("O" overrides the graphics card check)
  72.  
  73. "Out of memory" 
  74. - Check that you have at least 4 MB of free memory (RAM memory or 
  75.   virtual memory) before attempting to run MAZE. Choose "About...", 
  76.   from the Windows Program Manager to display the current system 
  77.   resources. 
  78. - Turn on the Virtual Memory Manager from Control Panel, Advanced 
  79.   386 section, or increase virtual memory size. Consult your 
  80.   Microsoft Windows manual for instructions.
  81. - Close all other applications in the Windows environment.
  82. - Reset your computer before running MAZE again.
  83.  
  84. "Application runs slow"
  85. - If Virtual memory is used as memory for the application, MAZE is 
  86.   slower in operation than using RAM memory. Free as much RAM memory 
  87.   as possible.
  88. - The CD-ROM drive and/or CPU is slow. Best performance is achieved 
  89.   with a double speed CD-ROM drive (300 KB/sec) and at least a 486 
  90.   computer running at 33 MHz. 
  91. - Try installing (SETUP.EXE) the application on the hard disk rather 
  92.   than executing MAZE directly from the CD-ROM disc.
  93.  
  94. "No digital sound" 
  95. - No sound card installed
  96. - Check your sound card matches the system requirements. Also check 
  97.   that you can hear sounds using a WAV-player program (often 
  98.   enclosed with the sound card).
  99. - System volume is set low: MAZE adapts to current system volume 
  100.   setting. Check the current volume in either a software control 
  101.   (often a mixer board program) or hardware regulated volume at the 
  102.   back panel of your sound card.
  103.  
  104. "Volume control in MAZE does not work" 
  105. - Volume setting not supported. Some sound cards do not support 
  106.   software controlled volume setting. Consult your sound card manual 
  107.   to set the volume.
  108.  
  109. "Music/speech breaks up during playback"
  110. - Slow CD-ROM disc access or data throughput problem. Check that 
  111.   your CD-ROM drive delivers 150 KB/second of data throughput. Try 
  112.   starting the MAZE application using:  STARTWMG.EXE /S9
  113. - To turn off sound system for MAZE use:  STARTWMG.EXE /S0
  114. - Also try using a CD-ROM disc cache software to optimize reading 
  115.   performance from disc.
  116.  
  117. "Music is only played for a short period in 3D Virtual Mazewalk"
  118. - Slow CPU: To improve performance with a slow CPU, music is played 
  119.   for only a short period in the 3D Virtual Mazewalk.
  120.  
  121. "Slow and jerky movement in the '3D Virtual Mazewalk' simulator"
  122. - Slow CPU or slow video card: 3D Virtual Maze WalkÆs performance 
  123.   is directly proportional to the speed of the Windows display 
  124.   diver and CPU on your system. The "Distance Time" shown is not 
  125.   dependent on your hardware.

  127. "No printout from 'Amazing Maze Printout' section
  128. - No printer connected or printer not ready: Amazing Maze Printout 
  129.   requires a Windows compatible printer. Check that the printer is 
  130.   connected to the system and that it is in 'on-line' state.
  131. - The printer is not set as the default Windows printer: No printer 
  132.   setting dialog is available in MAZE. To change the system printer, 
  133.   use "Printer" from Windows Control Panel to setup the printer.

  137. MAZE LICENSE AGREEMENT
  138. Carefully read all the terms and conditions of this agreement before 
  139. opening the CD-ROM disk package. By opening that package, you agree 
  140. to become bound by the terms and conditions of this agreement as a 
  141. complete and exclusive statement of your agreement with us. If you do 
  142. not agree to these terms and conditions, return the unopened CD-ROM 
  143. package and other components of this product to the place of purchase 
  144. and you will receive a full refund.

  146. 1. License: You have the non-exclusive right to use the program on 
  147. a single computer. You may physically transfer the program from one 
  148. computer to another provided that the program is used on only one 
  149. computer at a time. You may not electronically transfer the program 
  150. from one computer to another over a network. You may not distribute 
  151. copies of the program or documentation to others. You may not modify 
  152. or translate the program or related documentation without the prior 
  153. written consent of MECA Software. You may make one copy of the 
  154. program, solely for backup purposes. You must reproduce the copy-
  155. right notice on the backup copy. You may also transfer the program 
  156. and license to another party who agrees to the terms and conditions 
  157. of the Agreement. If you do transfer the program, you must transfer 
  158. all copies, whether in printed or machine-readable format, to the 
  159. same party, or destroy any copies of the program, its parts and 
  160. modifications that are not transferred.
  161. 2. Term: This license is effective until terminated. You may 
  162. terminate it by destroying the program and documentation and all 
  163. copies thereof. The license will also terminate if you fail to 
  164. comply with any condition of this Agreement. You agree upon such 
  165. termination to destroy all copies of the program and documentation.
  166. 3. Limited Warranty: The Program is provided "as is" without 
  167. warranty of any kind. The entire risk as to results and performance 
  168. of the program is assumed by you. Should the program prove 
  169. defective, you (and not MECA Software or its dealers) assume the 
  170. entire cost of all necessary servicing, repair or correction. 
  171. Further, MECA Software does not warrant, guarantee or make any 
  172. representations regarding the use of, or the results of the use of, 
  173. the programs in terms of correctness, accuracy, reliability, 
  174. currentness, or otherwise. You rely on the program and results 
  175. solely at your own risk. 
  176. MECA Software does warrant to the original licensee that the disk 
  177. on which the program is recorded is free from defects in materials 
  178. and workmanship under normal use and service for a period of 
  179. ninety (90) days from the date of delivery as evidenced by a copy 
  180. of your receipt. MECA SoftwareÆs entire liability and your 
  181. exclusive remedy shall be replacement of the disk which is 
  182. returned to MECA Software with a copy of your receipt. If failure 
  183. of the disk resulted from accident, abuse or misapplication of the 
  184. product, then MECA Software shall have no responsibility to replace 
  185. the disk under this limited warranty. The above is the only 
  186. warranty of any kind, either expressed or implied, including but 
  187. not limited to implied warranties of merchantability and fitness 
  188. for a particular purpose that is made by MECA Software on MAZE. 
  189. This warranty gives you specific legal rights and you may also 
  190. have other rights which vary from state to state. Neither MECA 
  191. Software nor anyone else who has been involved in the creation, 
  192. production or delivery of this program shall be liable for any 
  193. direct, incidental or consequential damages, such as but not 
  194. limited to loss of anticipated profits or benefits, arising out of 
  195. the use, results of use, or inability to use such product even 
  196. if MECA Software has been advised of the possibility of such 
  197. damages or claims. Some states do not allow the exclusion or 
  198. limitation of liability for consequential or incidental damages 
  199. so the above limit may not apply to you.
  200. 4. Updates: If this productÆs registration card has not been 
  201. received by MECA Software, MECA Software is under no 
  202. obligation to make any updates available to you.
  203. 5. General: This Agreement is governed by the laws of the State 
  204. of Connecticut.
