  15. What offeres SPEA's Mailbox?
  16. ============================
  17. Software Updates (further/new drivers and utility software) may
  18. be obtained free of charge from the SPEA V7 Bulletin Board Service.
  19. Additional there are offered a lot of information, i.g. about new products,
  20. release levels, product information, data sheeds and answers from our
  21. hotline to frequently asked questions for all our products.

  23. Requirements to contact the SPEA Mailbox?
  24. =========================================
  25. All you need is a modem connected with your PC and the phone net
  26. and a terminal software (is mostly contained in the delivery package
  27. of the modem).
  28. The box is free for all and no registration is needed.

  70. How to configure your modem?
  71. ============================

  73. Configure your modem as follows:
  74.   * 2400, 9600, 14400 or 19200 Baud (depending on modem/line)
  75.  
  76.   * 8 data bits; 1 stop bit; no parity
  77.  
  78.   * Terminal Emulation: ANSI.SYS (Emulatormodus ANSI.BBS)

  81.   * File Transfer Protokol (communication between both modem)
  82.              Zmodem (that we recommanded)
  83.              Ymodem, Ymodem -G
  84.              Xmodem, Xmodem /1k, Xmodem /1k -G

  88.     ATTENTION! NOT software handshaking (Xon/Xoff)!

  92. Availability
  93. ============
  94.   Daily 24 h online, but daily 3.50 AM upto ca. 4.10 AM there are some
  95.   refresh works.

  98. Problems concerning the connection
  99. ==================================
  100. P: You are using ISDN and you could not get a connection to our ISDN line.
  101. A: - Don't use the common ISDN software (Verzeichnis holen, Directory) but
  102.    use a terminal program that supportsISDN (i.e. shareware TERMINAT, available
  103.    in the SPEA BBS).
  104.    - Load x.75 or v.100/v.110 and configure for 38400 baud. Use Zmodem (8k).
  105.  
  106. P: You have a 2400 baud connection only, although your modem supports
  107.    higher speeds.
  108. A: - If the lines are very bad the modem will set the speed on lower level
  109.    automatically to get an error-free connection.
  110.    Please call again to get a better line or call later when phone net is
  111.    not so busy.
  112.  
  113. P: Immediately after getting a connect (connect xxx) this connection is
  114.    lost.
  115. A: - Check the basics adjustments of your modem as described in the bulletin
  116.    'How to configure your modem?'.
  117.    - Don't use the main number -41 but call the lines directly (see above).
  118.    - If you work on a modem that supports 2400 Baud only please only use the
  119.    phone number -97 to make sure that you have no connection with highspeed
  120.    modems. Some 2400 baud modems have problems to communicate with HS modems.
  121.    - When using a Zyxel modem please only call 08151/21196. This lines
  122.    connects you as well with a Zyxel modem and so you will get a better
  123.    connection.

  125. P: Immediately after getting a connect (connect xxx) you get AT commands
  126.    on your screen.
  127. A: - The called modem was just in initializing, please call again.
  128.  
  129. P: Immediately after getting a connect (connect xxx) you get undefined chars
  130.    on your screen.
  131. A: - Maybe these faults are caused by bad lines. Please call again to get a
  132.    better line or call later when phone net is not so busy.
  133.    - The chars appears like impulses? Please check whether there are any
  134.    impulse counter is connected with your phone line.
  135.  
  136. P: Special chars (e.g. menu frames, lines,..) are not displayed as such ones
  137.    but as characters or control chars.
  138. A: -The terminal emulation you have chosen in configuring your modem is wrong.
  139.    Select ANSI.BBS (see bulletin 'basis adjustings'). Note: ANSI.SYS has to
  140.    be loaded via CONFIG.SYS.
  141.    -For customers who use the Windows 3.1 tool TERMINAL.EXE: This software
  142.    offers no terminal emulation that shows all ansi sequeces correctly. To
  143.    work nevertheless with this program and our mailbox please select
  144.    'DEC VT-100 (ANSI)'. Using this emulation the lines, frames,.. are dis-
  145.    played with characters - not correct but readable. So you can altthough
  146.    work with the menus.
  147.    If you want to have a really correct display you have to use another
  148.    terminal software.
  149.  
  150. Possible problems concerning the download
  151. =========================================
  152. P: There is no succesful download: Sending file process will not be started.
  153.    ("No files to send").
  154. A: - You are in the wrong file area now and the file that you desire so cannot
  155.    be found in this file area. (e.g. you want to downlaod FIRE_WIN.EXE but
  156.    you are momentary in the area 'FIRE AutoCAD Driver'). -> The current file
  157.    area is displayed in the download menu, right, on the top!
  158.    Using 'B - List of files in the current area' you can check, whether the
  159.    desired file is available in this file area with the used name.
  160.    -You have not entered the right file name (error in entering).
  161.    -The protocol that you entered doesn't agree with the protocol that you
  162.    have selected in your modem configuration.
  163.    If you had chosen e.g. Zmodem in YOUR terminal program you MUST also enter
  164.    Zmodem in the SPEA mailbox!
  165.    -There are some modems that needs pressing the >PageDown< or >Bild ab<
  166.    key to start the file transfer. So press this key when you have entered >S<
  167.    for 'Start transfer...'.
  168.    IMPORTANT: Especially with 2400 modem you must be patient - the modems
  169.    need some time for initializing!
  170.    - Please check: Does the named destination directory exist? Is there
  171.    enough space? Do you have rights to write in this directory (network!).

  174. P: There is no succesful download: The sending process is cancelled.
  175. A: -The protocol that you entered doesn't agree with the protocol that you
  176.    have selected in your modem configuration.
  177.    If you had chosen e.g. Zmodem in YOUR terminal program you MUST also enter
  178.    Zmodem in the SPEA mailbox!
  179.    - Select in YOUR modem software  Hardware Handshaking (RTS/CTS) as float
  180.    control protocol (communication between your modem and your PC)
  181.    Do NOT select software Float Control (Xon/Xoff)!
  182.    - Deactivate "Compressing data" (V42.bis), all files are already packed
  183.    files. Further compressing is not possible and there may occure problems
  184.    or time delays caused by the vain attempts to compress the files.
  185.    - check the speed modem - COM port: If you have the UART chip type
  186.    8250/16450 you can only use speeds upto 9600 bit/s. For HS modems you
  187.    better use the chip type 16550 - so are bit rates of 38400 and also 57600
  188.    bit/s possible! Use COMTEST (available in our mailbox) to check your
  189.    COM port chip on COM 1 / COM 2.
