  6. WHAT AMIGAS ICON DELUXE WORKS ON:
  7.    I think IconDeluxe works on all amigas.  With previous versions of Icon
  8. Deluxe, I've recieved conflicting reports about it not working on certain
  9. systems.  I thought that it just didn't work under 3.0, but then I found
  10. out that IconDeluxe DOES work under 3.0; it seems that it had a problem
  11. with 68030 and 040 processors, possibly stemming from incorrectly obtaining
  12. the workbench address.  I think this bug has been fixed, and it probably
  13. will work on all amigas now, but I am using a 68000 A500 with 2.04 to write
  14. Icon Deluxe, so I can't be sure...  I would REALLY appreciate it if I could
  15. get some feedback from people with the following configurations:

  17.    68030's; 2.04/2.1
  18.    68040's; 2.04/2.1
  19.    A500, A1000, A2000, A2500, A3000; 3.x
  20.    A1200
  21.    A4000
  22.  
  23. to make sure it really works on these configurations.  (PLEASE!!!)  And if
  24. it fails for anyone, on any system configuration, please let me know so I
  25. can get it working for everybody.

  39. INSTALLATION:
  40.    IconDeluxe can be installed using the install icon.  However, you must
  41. have Commodore's Install utility for the script to work.
  42.  
  43.    If you don't have the Install utility, you can still install Icon Deluxe
  44. by placing the files IconDeluxe and IconDeluxe.guide wherever you want them
  45. (I recommend SYS:Tools).
  46.    You must have AmigaGuide or MultiView for online help to work.  If not,
  47. you can open a shell and type:

  49. MakeLink SYS:Utilities/AmigaGuide C:More
  50.  
  51. or replace C:More with your favorite text viewer.  If you do this, you'll
  52. probably want to use a text editor to strip out the AmigaGuide
  53. instructions.  I could've done it myself, but most people have AmigaGuide,
  54. and I didn't want to increase the distribution archive size.  If you don't
  55. feel like doing it, and need the text version, just say so in your
  56. registration and I'll put the plain text docs on your disk.

  60. THE "Some icons" ICONS:
  61.    These are just sample icons of ones I like and use.  You need to set the
  62. workbench to 16 colors and the palette to the preset one that's saved in
  63. the directory for them to look good.  Even though most of them are disk
  64. icons, the type is currently set to project to allow them to be loaded.  If
  65. you want to use them, load it, set the type back to disk, then save as
  66. Disk.info in the volume you want to have this icon.

  70. COPYRIGHT:
  71.    The registered version is copyrighted and may not be distributed, so
  72. please do not allow it to be pirated.  Ten dollars isn't much, so anybody
  73. who wants or uses it can afford it.  If you use IconDeluxe, please register
  74. and encourage me to write more cheap but high-quality Amiga software.
  75.    The public version is full-featured and is not "cripple-ware."  It does
  76. have a short delay before saving the icon, to remind and encourage the user
  77. to register.  It's not long, just long enough to contemplate the hundreds
  78. of hours I spent writing this program when I should have been studying so
  79. you could harvest the fruits of my labors.  Do you feel guilty yet?  ;)
  80. The public version is freely distributable and perfectly usable, so please
  81. spread it around.

  85. REGISTERING ICON DELUXE:
  86.   If you like Icon Deluxe, or are just sick of the save delay and seeing
  87. the about window when the program first starts up, then you can reward me
  88. for the hundreds of hours I spent writing it by sending a small
  89. contribution of $10 (or equivalent in other currencies).  If you have done
  90. so already, I would like to express my thanks to you, as that $10 fed me
  91. for a week.  If you have not registered, think of all the time I spent
  92. writing this for you, and how nice it would be to help out a poor student
  93. who's struggling to get by.  In return, I will send you the registered
  94. version of Icon Deluxe, which does not include the save delay or open the
  95. about window at startup as does the public version.  I'll also send updates
  96. to all registered users for bug fixes and added features.  For bug reports
  97. or feature requests, I can be reached on the internet at btietz@ucsd.edu.
  98.    If you would like to get the source code to Icon Deluxe, send an extra
  99. $5.  The source is very well commented so beginning programmers should
  100. have no trouble understanding and learning from it, and even skilled
  101. programmers might find some of the code useful.
