Short: BETA FSP clients for AmiTCP (2.3 or greater)
Type:
Keywords: amiga FSP AmiTCP
Author: PORTED by aln@maroon.tc.umn.edu, original FSP 2.7.1 authors are many
Uploader: aln@maroon.tc.umn.edu (Alan Nelson)
This is a very preliminary release of the FSP 2.7.1 clients for the Amiga.
It runs under AmiTCP 2.3 (required to fix MTU problems with packet
assembly/disassembly problems).
Binaries only are supplied - I'm too embarassed by the way I hacked up
2.7.1 sources. In fact, not all the client programs are here - just
the most common ones. Only fget, fcd, fls, fput and fver have been used
extensively. The only MAJOR problem is that filename expansion is
not done remotely - that is, you must get "file1" "file2" file3"
individually instead of saying "file*" - bummer, eh?
If you want to "ping" a site to see if FSP is running, I suggest using
the "fver" command - it is quicker than doing an fcd or fls. And no,
there isn't an FSP Deamon (I didn't even try to compile it but might if
there is an interest).
Don't expect real sources and a true port anytime soon. I initially did
it to access a "popular" site back in the Fall 1993 ... a quick and dirty
port just to xfer files before the site went away. Since then, my interest
has dwindled in direct proportion to the interesting Amiga sites out there.
If you don't know what FSP does or how to use it, I'd suggest looking
at the FAQ in alt.comp.fsp (try not to mention this hacked port) or the
fsp2.71.tar distribution. An old faq from August 1993 is included - but
understand that IT IS OUT OF DATE. The man files are also included, but
I never updated them to reflect by hacks (see what you get with free
software?)
Included is a sample startup file "setup" and a sample init file
"wuarchive.sh" used to access the wuarchive.wustl.edu site. (And try
pics6.sh if looking for a vast collection of JPG/GIF files).
Remember, FSP uses environment variables on *purpose* (yecchhh) and
you must, at the minimum, set FSP_PORT and FSP_HOST. Therefore, only
one active site is possible (although multiple sessions (fget's) are
possible to the same site). Got a solution besides re-writing FSP not
to use environment variables? Let me know.
Got an interesting site to share? Want to encourage me to finish this
project? E-mail me at the address below. Got any flames for not
releasing the hacked up sources? My response is to get the 2.7.1 FSP
distribution and compile it yourself. Looks like the AmiTCP 3.0 distribution
will allow an almost transparent port ...
