There is an unauthorized Beta copy of our exe/com compressor PKLITE
that has been circulated recently. This is NOT an official release,
and this Beta version of the software will not be compatible with the
release version.
If you see the files PKLITE.ZIP or PKLITE.EXE on any BBS or on-line
system, please ask the SysOp of that system to remove the files
IMMEDIATELY, and please contact PKWARE to report where the files were
seen.

Dear Phil: I d/l an interesting looking file from a US BBS a few days
ago, which purports to be an "EXE squasher" from your stable called
PKLITE. It seems to be a beta version............ & I may say, on a
guarded test run on a spare IBM AT, it wreaked havoc with a great
number of .EXE files! -- some just wdn't run after compressing,
others gave definitely "unpredictable results"! -- especially
Norton's NDD and SD, Psion chess, and a handful of other utils
including VOPT, all crashed after compression..... Is this genuinely
a PK product -- I guess from the fact that it's not mentioned on yr
BB that it's either still in development, or a fake.................
Could you let me know, please? all the best: Dom

The guy's name is *NICK* Anis, not rick. J. Dvorak doesn't have
anything to do with the board. If "PKLITE" isn't for public
distribution then NA probably shouldn't have it on his board.

I also found a copy of PKLite. It was on a BBS local to me
(Interconnect BBS 202-425-2505) and had a readme file with another
BBS ad in it. I uploaded it to the IBM general area for your
perusal. It is definitely the work of some hacker; not your standard
high quality product. No documentation included, and the shareware
says "send LOTS." Someone has it out for you, no doubt about it. I
hope you catch whoever is f**king with your product and stomp them
hard.
I wonder if it might be those folks you had a lawsuit with several
years ago...

Hi Phil,
In your warning message, you asked to be told where the
file(s) of subject are located, and I can give you 2 BBS's where I
have seen them. The first is Rose Media 1-416-733-2285, and the
other is Northern Lights 1-705-472-6908. Just thought I would let
you know... Pete
