  34. I. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION.
  35.  
  36. ImgViewer/32 is a Windows95/NT program for viewing and printing 
  37. digital images in a variety of standard formats.  Image formats 
  38. supported include GIF, .BMP, PCX, TGA, TIF, .JPG, and .PNG. GIF, 
  39. PNG, and PCX provide compression of 256-color images, while .JPG and 
  40. PNG provides compression for 16-million color images, thus saving 
  41. disk space.  The Help file contains a section which discusses 
  42. the advantages/disadvantages of each format.
  43.  
  44. ImgViewer/32 has editing features and file conversion routines built 
  45. in, which allow you to change images to suit your needs.  You can 
  46. crop, resize, stretch, rotate, mirror, flip, sharpen, soften, extract 
  47. edges, negate and adjust color-balance, brightness, contrast and gamma.
  48.  
  49. There is a text insertion tool.  Full-Screen view coupled with 
  50. the use of the keyboard arrow keys make a presentation slide 
  51. show easy to do.
  52.  
  53. A quick Zoom Tool provides instant magnification of areas of an 
  54. image, for close inspection.
  55.  
  56. Full documentation is included in the form of a Windows Help file.  
  57. When you desire help, press your F1 function key for context-sensitive 
  58. help, or press the help button if you are in a dialog box.
  59.  
  60. ImgViewer/32 is shareware.  It is fully functional and provides 
  61. all features that are included in the registered version, but 
  62. it will "nag" non-registered users occasionally.  You are 
  63. entitled to evaluate the program for a period of 30 days, after 
  64. which you are expected to register for continued use.  After 
  65. the evaluation period, the program will place a small banner on 
  66. each displayed image. When you register, you will receive a 
  67. copy that includes a key file that eliminates the nag screens 
  68. and banners for the current and future versions.  
  69.  
  70. ImgViewer/32 contains functions which can read and write the 
  71. .GIF format, which contains compression technology covered by 
  72. U.S. Patent No. 4,558,302, owned by the Unisys corporation.  
  73. The author of ImgViewer/32 has obtained a license from Unisys, 
  74. and pays a royalty on each sale, to use this technology. The 
  75. following statement is required by that license:
  76.  
  77.     "Use of this software is permitted only to the extent
  78.     reasonably required to determine whether to purchase
  79.     the software.
  80.  
  81.     "After payment is made, use of this software is limited
  82.     to use on only a single personal computer or
  83.     workstation which is not used as a server.  An
  84.     additional payment is required for each use on
  85.     another personal computer or workstation.
  86.  
  87.     "Only a single copy may be made of this software
  88.     solely for backup or archival purposes.  The software
  89.     may also be transferred to a single hard disk.
  90.  
  91.     "Any use of this software in violation of the above is
  92.     not licensed.

  103. II. Program requirements.
  104.  
  105. ImgViewer/32 requires an IBM compatible 486 or better, running 
  106. Windows 95, or Windows NT, with at least 12 megs of RAM and VGA or 
  107. better graphics.  Recommended: Pentium 75 or better with an 
  108. accelerated graphics adapter.
  109.  
  110. Most operations require a mouse.
  111.  
  112. Graphics files can be quite large, particularly with true-color, so a 
  113. large hard disk is recommended.  ImgViewer/32 will require about 2 
  114. megs for program installation.
  115.  
  116. III. Installing ImgViewer/32
  117.  
  118. To install ImgViewer/32, run the included setup program.  If the 
  119. program is on a floppy disk, you can use File/Run in the Program 
  120. Manager and type a:\ivsetup or b:\ivsetup, whichever drive is involved.  
  121. You can use the same technique to run setup from a directory on your 
  122. hard drive by supplying the full path, such as c:\temp\ivsetup.  
  123. Alternatively you can use File manager to find the files and 
  124. double-click on IVSETUP.EXE.
  125.  
  126. Windows 95/NT-4 users can use the "Add/Remove Programs" item in the 
  127. Control Panel to find and start IVSETUP.
  128.  
  129. IV.  Getting Started.
  130.  
  131. During setup, an ImgV32 Program File icon was installed in a 
  132. Start Menu program group of your choosing.  Double-click that 
  133. icon to start the program.
  134.  
  135. When you see the main program window, Click the "open file" icon at the 
  136. left end of the icon bar, and then browse for image files to view.  
  137.  
  138. ImgViewer/32 is a simple viewer for just browsing your images, 
  139. but it also has many powerful features.  Use the Help menu to 
  140. open the help file, and then look at these items (or browse 
  141. through the contents):

  164. V.  FILES AND UNINSTALLING
  165.  
  166. When ImgViewer/32 is installed, a program (UNINSTAL.EXE) and a data 
  167. file (INSTALL.LOG) are placed in the ImgV32 directory.  The 
  168. following information is provided to aid in removing the 
  169. program in case those files are lost or damaged.
  170.  
  171. Files distributed with ImgViewer/32:
  172.  
  173. IVSETUP.EXE 
  174. This file contains all of the program files.  Running it will 
  175. install all of the files where they belong, and will also produce a 
  176. record and program that can be used to uninstall this package. 
  177.  
  178. README.TXT 
  179. The text file you are reading now.
  180.  
  181. VENDINFO.DIZ, FILEID.DIZ
  182. Information files for shareware distributors and online 
  183. services.  These explain distribution rights and allowable 
  184. methods.
  185.  
  186. Files installed by running IVSETUP.EXE:
  187.  
  188. Main Program directory files IMGV32.EXE, IMGV32.HLP, IMGV32.CNT 
  189. README.TXT, UNINSTAL.EXE, INSTALL.LOG.

  191. Windows\System directory files OIK32.OCX, MFC42.DLL, 
  192. MSVCRT.DLL, WININET.DLL, OLEAUT32.DLL, OLEPRO32.DLL, 
  193. MSVBVM50.DLL

  195. Registered users will have one additional file: IV32_REG.KEY.  
  196. This file must be in your ImgV32 directory, and will keep the 
  197. startup shareware screen from appearing.  If you upgrade to a 
  198. new version of ImgViewer/32, do not delete this file - it will work 
  199. with all future versions.
  200.  
  201. Files created by ImgViewer/32:
  202.  
  203. ImgViewer/32 creates some temporary files with .TMP 
  204. extensions in the directory pointed to by your TEMP variable.  
  205. If there is no TEMP variable the files will be in the ImgV32 
  206. directory.  Under normal use, the program will clean these up 
  207. when it exits.  If the program crashes it can leave remnant .TMP 
  208. files which should be removed manually as is true of all remnant 
  209. temporary files.

  211. Uninstalling ImgViewer/32:
  212.  
  213. If the UNINSTAL.EXE program and INSTALL.LOG file have been left 
  214. intact in the ImgV32 directory, running the program will remove all 
  215. files that were installed with ImgViewer/32. If the UNINSTAL program 
  216. has been removed, use the file list above to determine which files 
  217. to remove.

  219. VI.  Troubleshooting.
  220.  
  221. If you have any problems with ImgViewer/32, please contact the 
  222. author, even if you are not a registered user.  A fix may be 
  223. available, or you may help the program become better by your 
  224. report.  Be as clear and concise as possible in describing problems.
  225.  
  226. VII. Obtaining images.
  227.  
  228. If you regularly use the Internet or online sources such as 
  229. Compuserve, America Online, or the Internet, you will find a wealth 
  230. of images that can be downloaded.  These images are usually in the 
  231. .GIF or .JPG formats to reduce download time.
  232.  
  233. You may send two pictures or 35mm slides with your 
  234. registration, for free scanning.  The originals will be 
  235. returned.  Additional scanning is available; contact the author 
  236. for details.
  237.  
  238. VIII.  Getting future Upgrades.
  239.  
  240. When you order ImgViewer/32 from the author, you will receive a copy 
  241. of the latest version and an ownership key that permanently enables 
  242. the program.  That key file will work with future versions of the 
  243. program, so no upgrade fee will be required, but you will need 
  244. to find and download those versions as they occur.
  245.  
  246. The program is frequently provided in both full and upgrade 
  247. forms, with the much smaller upgrade being all that is needed 
  248. for current users to download.
  249.  
  250. The author maintains current copies available for internet FTP.

  254. On Compuserve, recent versions can be found in several forums, 
  255. including WINAV, GRAPHSUP, and PHOTOFORUM.

  257. The author does not maintain a presence on other online 
  258. services such as AOL, MSN and Prodigy, but recent copies are still 
  259. usually found there.
  260.  
  261. Registered users who do not have online access may get a disk copy 
  262. from the author for a fee of $5 ($7 non-US).  Send a short note 
  263. indicating your registered status and requesting the latest copy.  
  264. Please use the same name under which you ordered originally.
  265.  
  266. IX.  Purchase, License, and Warranty.
  267.  
  268. ImgViewer/32 is shareware.  Free use is extended to any user 
  269. for an evaluation period of 30 days.  For use to be continued, 
  270. the program must be registered with the author.  Price is $29.95.  
  271. California residents please add $2.17 sales tax, and non-US 
  272. buyers should include $2.00 for airmail shipping.  All 
  273. funds should be drawn on a US Dollar account. A convenient form 
  274. for ordering is included in the Help file (and may be 
  275. printed from there).  A toll-free order number will also be 
  276. found on the order form and in the "about" box.  There is an

  279. LICENSE AGREEMENT. You should carefully read the following 
  280. terms and conditions before using this software.

  282. DEMO VERSION. You are hereby licensed to: use the Demo version 
  283. of the software for a 30 day evaluation period; make as many 
  284. copies of the Demo version of this software and documentation 
  285. as you wish; give exact copies of the original Demo version to 
  286. anyone; and distribute the Demo version of the software and 
  287. documentation in its unmodified form via electronic means.  
  288. There is no charge for any of the above.
  289.  
  290. Commercial Shareware vendors should read the included 
  291. VENDINFO.DIZ file for details on distribution rights.
  292.  
  293. Unregistered use of ImgViewer/32 after the 30-day evaluation 
  294. period will result in a banner being displayed across each 
  295. image displayed in the program.  The demo version is otherwise 
  296. identical to the registered version.
  297.  
  298. REGISTERED VERSION. Registered users may not distribute their 
  299. registration key file.
  300.  
  301. LICENSE AND ROYALTIES. One registered copy of ImgViewer/32 may 
  302. either be used by a single person who uses the software 
  303. personally on one or more computers, or installed on a single 
  304. workstation used non-simultaneously by multiple people, but not 
  305. both.
  306.  
  307. You may access ImgViewer/32 through a network, provided that 
  308. you have obtained individual licenses for the software covering 
  309. all workstations that will simultaneously access the software 
  310. through the network.

  312. GOVERNING LAW. The laws of the State of California shall cover
  313. this agreement.
  314.  
  315. Disclaimer of Warranty. THIS SOFTWARE AND THE ACCOMPANYING 
  316. FILES ARE SOLD "AS IS" AND WITHOUT WARRANTIES AS TO PERFORMANCE 
  317. OF MERCHANTABILITY OR ANY OTHER WARRANTIES WHETHER EXPRESSED OR 
  318. IMPLIED.  Because of the various hardware and software 
  319. environments into which ImgViewer/32 may be put, NO WARRANTY OF 
  320. FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE IS OFFERED.

  322. Good data handling procedures dictate that any program be 
  323. thoroughly tested with non-critical data before relying on it.  
  324. The user must assume the entire risk of using the program.  ANY 
  325. LIABILITY OF THE SELLER WILL BE LIMITED EXCLUSIVELY TO PRODUCT 
  326. REPLACEMENT OR REFUND OF PURCHASE PRICE.
