  9. Rather than being a tool used to operate on zip archives, VisualZIP is
  10. an extension for the Windows95/NT shell that provides the system with
  11. the native ability to browse and manipulate archives directly.  Archives
  12. appear to the system as desktop folders, which can be opened and explored,
  13. and adding and extracting files is accomplished through the same drag and
  14. drop interface as is used for copying files within normal folders.

  16. With VisualZIP installed, the user can also run standalone applications
  17. and documents from within archive virtual folders almost as seamlessly
  18. as if they were not compressed at all.  While this metaphor makes VisualZIP
  19. the ideal archive manager for the novice, it also supports a wide array
  20. of advanced features, such as:

  22. - Self-extracting archive generation
  23. - Multivolume archive creation (disk spanning) and processing
  24. - Long filename support
  25. - Full browseable directory structures within archives (also viewable
  26.   in the left hand side of the explorer): no more flat listings!
  27. - Virus scanning using the default scanner (msav) or any user-supplied
  28.   virus tool
  29. - Encryption and decryption, including multiple passwords per archive
  30.   and on-demand password prompting.  Encryption is also supported in
  31.   multivolume and self-extracting archives.
  32. - Dropping onto a zip archive "folder" icon for compression
  33. - Right dragging of archives and extracting files at the drop point, even
  34.   with multiple archives in a single operation.

  37. VisualZIP is easily installed using a standard windows setup application,
  38. with no user configuration required.  It can also be uninstalled at will
  39. using the Add/Remove programs applet in the control panel.
