  7. Artisoft LANtastic Version 6.0
  8. ------------------------------
  9. This procedure describes how to install Artisoft LANtastic 6.0 using the
  10. 3Com NDIS 2.01 driver ELNK3.DOS.  To install LANtastic from the DOS prompt
  11. or from Windows, follow these steps:
  12.

  14. Installing from the DOS Prompt
  15. ------------------------------
  16. 1.  Insert Artisoft's LANtastic Install Disk 1 of 4 in the floppy drive.
  17.  
  18. 2.  Type:
  19.  
  20.     INSTALL
  21.  
  22.     This launches Windows and starts the installation of LANtastic.
  23.  
  24. 3.  Go to step 4 under the "Installing from Windows" procedure and
  25.     continue with the remaining steps.
  26.  
  27.  
  28. Installing from Windows
  29. -----------------------
  30. 1.  Launch Windows, if it is not already opened.
  31.  
  32. 2.  Select Run from the Windows File menu.
  33.  
  34. 3.  Type:
  35.  
  36.     A:\INSTALL
  37.  
  38.     If you are using a different drive, use the letter for that drive.
  39.  
  40. 4.  Follow the instructions and answer the questions that appear.
  41.  
  42. 5.  Select NDIS Support for Network Adapters in the Select Network Adapter
  43.     window.
  44.  
  45. 6.  When prompted, remove the LANtastic diskette, insert the EtherDisk #2
  46.     diskette provided with the 3Com EtherLink 10 ISA NIC, and press [Enter].
  47.  
  48.     The NDIS driver is copied to your hard drive.
  49.  
  50. 7.  When prompted, reinsert the LANtastic Install Disk 1 in the drive.
  51.  
  52. 8.  Answer the questions concerning your PC name and drives based on your
  53.     configuration.

  170. Artisoft LANtastic Version 7.0
  171. ------------------------------

  173. This procedure describes how to install Artisoft LANtastic 7.0 under Microsoft
  174. Windows using the 3Com EtherLink 10 ISA NDIS 2 driver. To install LANtastic 7.0
  175. follow the steps below:

  178. LANtastic 7.0, Windows 3.1x Installation Procedure
  179. --------------------------------------------------
  180.  
  181. 1. Insert the LANtastic 7.0 CD-ROM or diskettes into the appropriate drive.
  182. In Windows 3.1x select File - Run... from the Program Manager menu and type
  183. A:\SETUP. In Windows '95 click Start on the Taskbar, select Run... and type
  184. A:\SETUP. (A denotes the letter of the drive you are installing LANtastic
  185. from).
  186.  
  187. 2. Follow the instructions on the screen and complete all registration
  188. information, serial number and verification key, and other information that
  189. will identify your computer on your network when prompted.
  190.  
  191. 3. LANtastic 7.0 gives you the option to configure your PC as a Server as
  192. well as a Client to the rest of your network. This option is selected as
  193. follows during the installation.
  194.  
  195. Under the window entitled LANtastic 7.0 Setup you will find the option
  196. "Share this computer's drives & printers (run server)". Check the box next
  197. to this option if you wish to configure your PC as a server as well as a
  198. client. If you chose not to select this option your PC will be configured as
  199. a client only.
  200.  
  201. Note that during the installation, LANtastic 7.0 gives you other options as
  202. well, such as, "Allow connections to Windows for Workgroups or Windows '95
  203. networks", "Allow connections to existing Novell Servers", "Enable HP
  204. JetDirect printer support", Modem sharing options, TCP/IP support, and
  205. Internet Gateway Service on your PC. Check the box next to each option that
  206. you wish to install during LANtastic 7.0 Setup.

  208. 4. After you have selected the appropriate options that you want LANtastic
  209. to install you will need to setup and configure your 3Com EtherLink 10 ISA
  210. NIC.  LANtastic 7.0 Setup will display the following options for your
  211. Ethernet NIC.

  213.         Artisoft NodeRunner Pro Adapter
  214.         Artisoft NodeRunner Adapter
  215.         Common Adapters
  216.         NDIS Support for Artisoft Adapters
  217.         Use NDIS Driver for Non-Artisoft Adapter
  218.  
  219. Note that the setup option "Allow connections to existing Novell servers"
  220. from step 3 works only with Artisoft NodeRunner Adapters. If you have
  221. selected this option you will not be able to choose any other type of
  222. adapter to install. You must go back and un-select this option in order to
  223. install the driver for the 3Com EtherLink 10 ISA NIC.

  225. 5. Select the last option for the type of NIC driver that you want to
  226. install i.e. "Use NDIS Driver for Non-Artisoft Adapter". Type the letter of
  227. your floppy drive and insert the 3Com EtherLink 10 ISA driver diskette. Then
  228. click on Search. The program will display the name of your 3Com EtherLink
  229. 10 ISA NIC at the top of the LANtastic 7.0 Setup window. Click OK to confirm
  230. this selection and then click INSTALL to copy the LANtastic files from the
  231. CD-ROM or diskettes to your hard disk.

  233. 6. At the end of the installation select Restart the computer. This will
  234. close Windows and reboot your PC. LANtastic should be installed and
  235. configured when you start Windows. For additional information on setting up
  236. shares and using LANtastic refer to your Artisoft LANtastic User's Manual.

  239. LANtastic 7.0, Windows '95 Installation Procedure
  240. -------------------------------------------------
  241.  
  242. Under Windows '95 the installation of LANtastic 7.0 is slightly different
  243. than that for Windows 3.1x. The reason is that Windows '95 installs and
  244. configures your 3Com EtherLink 10 ISA NIC automatically. Thus, LANtastic
  245. retrieves the NIC driver information from Windows without the need for user
  246. intervention.

  248. To install and configure LANtastic 7.0 under Windows '95, follow steps 1, 2,
  249.  3, and 6 from the list above.  Your NIC configuration will be incorporated
  250. into LANtastic automatically from your Windows '95 setup.
