  9. The following describes the procedure for installing the protected-mode
  10. NDIS3 (ELNK3.386) driver under Windows for Workgroups.
  11.  
  12. NOTE: It is assumed that Windows for Workgroups has already been installed.
  13.  
  14. 1.  Start Windows.
  15.  
  16. 2.  Open the Network group and double-click Network Setup.
  17.  
  18. 3.  To install the network driver, click Drivers...
  19.  
  20. 4.  In the Network Drivers window, click Add Adapter...
  21.  
  22. 5.  From the list of network adapters, select Unlisted or Updated Network
  23.     Adapter.
  24.  
  25. 6.  Network setup now requires a vendor-provided network driver diskette.
  26.     Insert the EtherDisk #2 diskette in drive A:, and type the following
  27.     path for the location of the NDIS driver:

  29.     A:\WFW311
  30.  
  31.     Click OK.
  32.  
  33. 7.  From the Unlisted or Updated Network Adapter screen, select 3Com
  34.     EtherLink 10 ISA Adapter (3C509b) and click OK.
  35.     The Network Setup screen now lists the NIC, along with the
  36.     default protocol stacks:

  38.     3Com EtherLink 10 ISA (3C509b) (NDIS2/NDIS3)
  39.  
  40. 8.  The Windows Setup program asks if you want to replace the Enhanced
  41.     Mode Protocol Manager with the version you are installing now.
  42.     Click Yes to All.
  43.  
  44. 9.  The Windows Setup program asks for the NDIS.386 file.  Insert
  45.     Microsoft Windows for Workgroups 3.11 Disk 7 and click OK.

  47. 10. When prompted for the ELNK3.386 driver, insert the 3Com EtherDisk
  48.     #2 diskette in the A:\ drive.
  49.  
  50. 11. Type the following path to load the NDIS3 driver:

  52.     A:\WFW311
  53.  
  54.     Click OK.
  55.  
  56. 12. When prompted for the ELNK3.DOS driver, insert the 3Com EtherDisk
  57.     #2 diskette in the A:\ drive.
  58.  
  59. 13. Type the following path to load the NDIS2 driver:

  61.     A:\NDIS2\DOS
  62.  
  63.     Click OK.
  64.  
  65. 14. The PROTOCOL.INI and SYSTEM.INI files have now been modified.  WFW
  66.     saves the old versions with the extension .001, where the number is
  67.     incremented every time a new PROTOCOL.INI or SYSTEM.INI is generated.
  68.     Click OK.
  69.  
  70. 16. When prompted, restart the computer.
