  10. The driver (SMC1211.SYS) contained in the root directory  is for
  11. the following SMC PCI Ethernet adapter:

  13.           SMC EZ Card 10/100 PCI

  15. The driver (SMC1211.SYS) conforms to the Network Driver Interface
  16. Specification (NDIS) 4.0, and is used with Microsoft Windows NT 4.0
  17. on the X86 platform.

  19. NDIS 4.0 Miniport Driver does not support the Microsoft Windows NT 3.51
  20. platform; NT 3.51 must use the NDIS 3 Miniport Driver.

  42. (A) Installing the driver in Microsoft Windows NT 3.51
  43. ==================================================
  44.  
  45.     1. Plug SMC1211TX adapter into one of the Master PCI
  46.        slots of your PCI platform.
  47.  
  48.     2. Turn the power ON and then boot into Windows NT.
  49.  
  50.     3. Click the "Main" icon in the Program Manager window.
  51.  
  52.     4. Click the "Control Panel" icon in the Main window.
  53.  
  54.     5. Click the "Network" icon in the Control Panel window.
  55.  
  56.     6. Click the  "Add Adapter..." button in the "Network Settings"
  57.        dialog box.
  58.  
  59.     7. Select "<other> Requires disk from manufacturer" in Network
  60.        Adapter Card list, and then click the "Continue" button in the
  61.        "Add Network Adapter" dialog box,
  62.  
  63.     8. Insert the SMC1211TX Driver Diskette in your floppy drive.
  64.  
  65.     9. Enter the full pathname A:\ of the driver installation
  66.        information file (OEMSETUP.INF) in the "Insert Disk" dialog box,
  67.        and then click the OK button.
  68.  
  69.    10. Select "SMC EZ Card 10/100 (SMC1211TX)" and then
  70.        click the OK button in the "Select OEM Option" dialog box.
  71.  
  72.    11. Select the Line Speed value (AUTO,100full,100half,10full,
  73.        10half) and then click the OK button in the "Select Line Speed"  
  74.        dialog box.

  76.    12. Windows NT will copy the driver (SMC1211.SYS) from A:\NDIS3
  77.        (NDIS/3) to C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS directory and the OEMSETUP.INF
  78.        from A:\ to C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32 but rename it to another
  79.        installation information file (OEMNADxx.INF). So the next time,
  80.        if you want to add SMC1211TX adapters to your system,
  81.        you do not need the floppy diskette again.

  83.        NOTICE!! C:\WINNT is the directory where your NT O.S. is located.
  84.  
  85.    13. After that, installation is completed. SMC's adapter becomes
  86.        one of those Installed Adapter Cards and the driver becomes one of
  87.        the Installed Network Software. You can see: "[x]SMC EZ Card 10/100
  88.        (SMC1211TX)" within Installed Adapter Cards menu and "SMC EZ Card
  89.        10/100 (SMC1211TX) Driver" within Installed Network Software menu.

  91.    14. To complete network installation, remember to bind the adapter
  92.        to the transport drivers by choosing the "Bindings" button under 
  93.        the Network Setting dialog box.
  94.  
  95.    15. Click the OK button in the "Network Settings" dialog box.

  97.    16. Remove the SMC1211TX Driver Diskette from your floppy drive.

  99.    17. Restart your computer to initialize the network function.

  102. (B) Installing the driver in Microsoft Windows NT 4.0

  105.     1. Plug SMC1211TX adapter into one of the Master PCI
  106.        slots of your PCI platform.
  107.  
  108.     2. Turn the power ON and then boot into Windows NT.
  109.  
  110.     3. Click the "My Computer" icon in the Main Program Group.
  111.  
  112.     4. Click the "Control Panel" icon in the Main window.
  113.  
  114.     5. Click the "Network" icon in the Control Panel window.
  115.  
  116.     6. Select the "Adapters" item, and then click the "Add..." button
  117.        in the "Network" dialog box.
  118.  
  119.     7. Select "<other> Requires disk from manufacturer" from the Network
  120.        Adapter Card list, and then click the "Continue" button in the
  121.        "Add Network Adapter" dialog box,

  123.     8. Insert the SMC1211TX Driver Diskette in your floppy drive.

  125.     9. Click the "Have Disk..." button in the "Select Network Adapter"
  126.        dialog box.

  135.    12. Select the Line Speed value (AUTO,10ofull,100half,10full,
  136.        10half) and then click the OK button in the "Select Line Speed" 
  137.        dialog box.

  139.    13. Windows NT will copy the driver (SMC1211.SYS) from A:\
  140.        to C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS directory and the OEMSETUP.INF
  141.        from A:\ to C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32 but rename it to another
  142.        installation information file (OEMNADxx.INF). So the next time,
  143.        if you want to add SMC1211TX adapters to your system,
  144.        you do not need the floppy diskette again.
