STANDARD MICROSYSTEMS CORPORATION
Wollongong PathWay Access v2.0 for DOS
For Ethernet LAN Adapters
INSTALLATION GUIDE
This software is licensed by SMC for use by its customers only.
Copyright (c) 1994 Standard Microsystems Corporation.
All rights reserved.
This installation guide describes:
o How to use EZStart to copy the Wollongong PathWay Access
version 2.0 for DOS NDIS driver files from the SuperDisk
to your PC.
o How to prepare your PC's operating system so you can attach
to the network.
Note: This driver supports all 8216 (Ultra), 80xx (Elite),
80xx (PLUS), and 8416 (EtherEZ) Series ISA, EISA, and Micro
Channel Ethernet adapters.
COPYING THE DRIVER FILES
From the Driver Installation screen, select 'Copy Files' to copy all
the files used by this driver from the SuperDisk to the Destination
Directory recommended by EZStart, or to a different directory that you
specify.
PREPARING YOUR OPERATING SYSTEM
Use the following steps to install the SMC8000 driver to support
PathWay only:
1. Using any text editor, add the following three lines to your
CONFIG.SYS file:
device=c:\pathway\pwtcp.sys
device=c:\pathway\protman.exe/i:\<directory path>
device=c:\lanman\SMC8000.dos
In the above lines, "/i:\<directory path>" is optional and
specifies any valid directory containing PROTOCOL.INI (the
default directory is \LANMAN).
2. Create a PROTOCOL.INI file that contains the following lines:
[Protocol Manager]
DriverName = protman$
[SMC8000-NIF]
Drivename = SMC8000$
3. In your AUTOEXEC.BAT file, verify that you have a line similar
to the following:
NDIS -d:2
In the above line, the number "2" indicates that the [SMC8000-NIF]
section in the PROTOCOL.INI file is the second entry. If it was
the first entry, the above line would read:
NDIS -D"1
4. Proceed with the rest of the instructions in the Wollongong
PathWay Installation Guide.
