DRIVER INSTALLATION
o Primary installation (network card not presently installed)
If you've already installed another card or loaded another driver,
refer to the procedure titled 'Network card already installed or
older driver previously loaded'.
NOTE: If you experience any problems during driver installation,
you may choose to run EZStart and use its 'Automatic' feature
to configure the EtherEZ PnP SMC8416 network card. Refer to
the README.DOC file on the SuperDisk, or for further detail,
refer to the EZSTART.DOC file found within EZStart. EZStart
will not run in a Windows NT DOS window. You must boot from
DOS to setup and test the card.
1. Complete the Windows NT installation without the SMC network card
installed in your PC. Have the SMC SuperDisk and Windows NT
installation files (on CD or hard drive) available. When prompted
with a window asking about 'Participating on a network', change
the default to 'Do not connect this computer to a network at
this time'. Click 'Next' and follow the prompts to reboot.
2. Install the SMC network card. Start Windows NT and double-click
the 'Control Panel' and 'Network' icons.
3. You will be prompted to install networking functionality. Click
'Yes'.
4. Follow the screen prompts. When prompted, insert the Windows NT
CD or specify the path to those installation files on your hard
drive.
5. When prompted with the 'Network Adapter Card Detection' dialog
box, select 'Do Not Detect'. Click on 'Continue'.
6. When prompted with the 'Add Network Adapter' window, scroll to
and select '<Other> Requires disk from manufacturer'.
7. Select 'Continue'.
8. When prompted, insert the SuperDisk, specify the path to the root
directory (e.g., A:\), and click 'OK'.
9. Select 'SMC 8416 EtherEZ' (or appropriate) and click 'OK'.
10. You will be prompted with the 'Adapter Card Setup' window.
Verify the correct network card has been detected. Click on 'OK'
to accept the default settings. In most cases Windows NT will
detect the correct card settings and you will not have to change
anything.
NOTE: If you select the IPX/SPX protocol, the 'NWLINK IPX/SPX
Protocol Configuration' window appears, permitting
customization of the protocol. Click 'OK'.
11. At this point, you can install additional protocols and network
components via the 'Windows NT Setup' window. Click 'Coninue'
when finished.
12. When presented with the 'Network Settings' window, click on 'OK'.
13. Follow the screen prompts as directed. Enter the 'Domain' or
'Workgroup' names when prompted (optional) and click 'OK'.
14. When prompted. select 'Restart Computer'.
NOTE: In the unlikely event you encounter any device driver errors
after Windows NT boots, check the Event Log (under
'Administrative Tools' icon) to see whether the error is
related to your SMC network card.

Follow this procedure to replace Windows NT driver files with the
latest SMC driver files. By removing driver files, you will lose
network settings. Make sure you have a record of settings such as
IP address, workgroup name, etc. Check with your network
