  25. About PTViewer
  26.  
  27. This is the 0.4 release of PTViewer, a free and open
  28. spherical Panorama Viewer. Open any spherical 360 x 180 
  29. degree Panorama (equirectangular projection) or simply drop
  30. the imagefile onto the viewer icon. Navigate by pressing and moving
  31. the mouse. Zoom in and out by using shift and control keys.
  32. Resize viewer window to any size.

  34. PTViewer runs on Macintosh PowerPCs with System > 7.6
  35. and Windows PCs (Win95/98/NT). It works with optimum
  36. speed and image quality if you set your monitor to
  37. Millions of color (32bit), although it will run on any
  38. display.

  40. The Macintosh version reads images through the Quicktime
  41. importer. Therefor, it can read almost any format, but
  42. size of the panoramic image is limited to 8000 pixels width.
  43. The Windows version only reads JPEG-compressed images,
  44. and is independent of the presence of Quicktime. Consequently,
  45. file size is somewhat larger, since the jpeg-6 library is
  46. linked to the program. The Windows version can read 
  47. panoramic images up to the JPEG limit (60000pixels wide/high).

  49. PTViewer employs high quality bilinear rendering, and switches
  50. to faster nearest neighbor interpolation during panning and zooming.
  51.  
  52. There are a few additional features in the Macintosh
  53. version: This version can read formats with embedded
  54. JPEG-images, which can not be read by usual image 
  55. readers. Eg, SmoothMove Panoramic images can be
  56. viewed using PTViewer. Any Hotspot information
  57. or additional media types are ignored.

  59. The Macintosh version can attach itself to a
  60. panorama image which then becomes a self displaying
  61. pano. This image can be viewed on any Macintosh
  62. without the need for viewer or plug-in installation.
  63. This option is available using the standard
  64. 'Save as' dialog option. Please note that this option only works
  65. if the image has JPEG-format.

  67. Images for PTViewer can be generated using commercial
  68. packages (LivePicture, SmoothMove) or using the free
  69. Panorama Tools from <http://www.fh-furtwangen.de/~dersch>.
