Part II: Playing the Demo
*****************************************************************************
MENU OPTIONS
------------
You can press the ESC key at almost any time to enter the menu system.
The menu system allows you to change the demo parameters and also pauses
the demo. Use the up/down arrow keys or mouse or joystick cursor to
highlight the desired item. Use the ENTER key or mouse or joystick
button to choose the selected item.
- SOUND VOLUME
The VOLUME control adjusts the sound level. At the top of the menu is
the volume control slider. You can use the up/down arrow keys or the
mouse or joystick to highlight VOLUME. You can adjust the sound volume
by moving the slider left or right with the left/right arrow keys or by
holding down the mouse or joystick button and moving left or right.
Left lowers volume, right raises volume.
* NOTE: With some sound cards, if you lower the volume too low you may
experience some sound corruption. If this is a problem you
should use the volume control on your speakers.
- CONTINUE
(hit the "C" key or highlight CONTINUE and press ENTER)
Select CONTINUE to resume from wherever you were when you pressed ESC.
- LOADING A SAVED GAME
This function is disabled in the demo.
- CALJOY
(hit the "J" key or highlight CALJOY and press ENTER)
CALJOY calibrates your joystick so it centers properly. If you are going
to use a joystick to play Cyberia2, you will need to calibrate your
joystick for the demo. You should only need to do this once unless it
goes out of alignment or you change your joystick. If your joystick
doesn't seem to be tracking properly, try recalibrating it.
To calibrate your joystick, rotate the stick to all four extreme corner
positions. Make sure that you have moved to the farthest reach of the
joystick for each corner then press the joystick fire button. This will
set your calibration and exit you from the CALJOY screen.
There are two control modes for how the joystick reacts to vertical
movement (up and down). The F1 key toggles between the two modes.
1. The default mode is aircraft style: left and right move left and
right; forward moves the crosshair down; and back moves the
crosshair up.
2. In the second mode: forward moves the crosshair up; back moves the
crosshair down; left and right stay the same. You may wish to try
both modes to see which you prefer.
- QUIT
(hit the "Q" key or highlight QUIT and press ENTER)
Choose QUIT to quit the demo and return to DOS or Windows 95.
GAMMA CONTROL
-------------
The gamma controls (the F11 and F12 keys) allow you to set the brightness
levels in the demo. F11 reduces the brightness a notch, while F12
increases it.
STANDARD INTERFACE
------------------
While in a moving vehicle, you are the gunner. You get a cockpit view of
the terrain and enemies. You control the targeting crosshair with your
mouse or joystick. Fire the vehicle's laser cannon by pressing the
joystick trigger, mouse button or SPACEBAR. Some targets require
multiple hits to destroy.

Part III: Troubleshooting
*****************************************************************************
GENERAL PROBLEMS
----------------
*** NOTE: Cyberia2 is constantly retrieving information from
the CD-ROM. At no time should you ever remove the
Cyberia2 CD while playing the game unless the program
asks you to. Doing so may cause the program to crash.
* If you're playing with the mouse and you're having problems with the
cursor jumping around or misfiring, it's probably because your mouse
driver is incompatible. We have provided a mouse driver on the CD
(disc 1) that we know works. To use our mouse driver:
1. Make a backup copy of your original AUTOEXEC.BAT file- THIS IS
AN IMPORTANT SAFETY MEASURE! Place a blank floppy disk in your
A: drive. From the C:\ prompt type COPY AUTOEXEC.BAT A: and
press the ENTER key.
2. Bring up the AUTOEXEC.BAT file in an editor. To use DOS's
built-in editor, type EDIT C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT and press the ENTER
key.
3. Disable the current mouse driver by placing a REM statement at
the very beginning of the line. For example, it may look like
this:
REM LH C:\MOUSE\MOUSE.EXE
4. Now save the file, exit the editor, and reboot the computer.
5. Go to your CD-ROM drive (usually D:).
6. At the prompt, type MOUSE and press the ENTER key.
7. You should get a message telling you that the mouse driver is
running.
8. Run Cyberia2 and save the world!
9. You will need to repeat steps 5-8 each time you reboot your
machine.
10. To re-enable your old mouse driver, simply edit your
AUTOEXEC.BAT file as before and remove the REM statement
from the beginning of the line, save the file, and reboot
your computer.
* You may experience problems with Cyberia2 locking up if your CD
drive uses the Toshiba driver TSYCD.SYS. If this happens, contact
Toshiba for a newer driver, TOSHIBA.SYS, version 1.11, which works
fine.
MEMORY PROBLEMS
---------------
To play C2, your computer must have a minimum of 8MB of RAM. C2 loads
into system memory (RAM) from the CD-ROM. If you are not sure how much
RAM your computer system has, there are two ways to check:
1. Most computers go through a memory check during the boot-up
sequence. You will see the numbers tally in the upper left-hand
corner. This number is usually measured in kilobytes, or
thousands of bytes.
2. If you have DOS 5 or later, switch to the DOS directory by
typing CD\DOS from the C: prompt. Type the following at the
C:\DOS prompt: MEM (press the ENTER key)
The DOS "MEM" command displays the total memory of your machine.
If you have 8MB of RAM, for example, MEM will show roughly 8,192K
on the row heading "TOTAL MEMORY". While 8MB is the minimum level
of TOTAL MEMORY needed to run the demo, you will need to have at
least 7,130K of that memory free. Check the row heading
"TOTAL MEMORY" under the "FREE" column (at the right) to ensure
that this number is at least 7,130K. If your free memory is below
the minimum requirement, Cyberia2 may not work properly or may not
run at all. Please see below for how to potentially free that
memory up. You can also reference the HELP! booklet included in
your Cyberia2 box.
In Windows 95, you can check the amount of RAM by doing the following:
1. Double-click on My Computer.
2. Click "Help" on the pull-down menu at the top of the screen.
3. Choose "About Windows" from the menu.
4. Check the figure for "Physical Memory Available to Windows."
5. The memory must read 8,192 KB or more for Cyberia2 to run.
Cyberia2 has low conventional memory requirements, and should run fine
under most normal machine configurations. If you receive a message
stating that you have "Not Enough Memory" when trying to load the demo,
check your CONFIG.SYS file for the presence of any external memory
managers. Examples of memory managers are HIMEM, QEMM, and 386MAX.
A typical command line will look like this:
DEVICE=C:\DOS\HIMEM.SYS
Cyberia2 uses DOS4GW and does not need a memory manager running. In
fact, a memory manager can actually make LESS memory available to
Cyberia2.
If such a memory manager is present and you wish to temporarily disable
it, use the following procedure:
1. Make a backup copy of your original CONFIG.SYS file- THIS IS
AN IMPORTANT SAFETY MEASURE! Place a blank floppy disk in your
A: drive. From the C:\ prompt type COPY CONFIG.SYS A: and press
the ENTER key.
2. Bring up the CONFIG.SYS file in an editor. To use DOS's built-in
editor, type EDIT C:\CONFIG.SYS and press the ENTER key.
3. Disable the memory manager line by placing a REM statement at the
very beginning of the line. In our previous example, it would
look like this:
REM DEVICE=C:\DOS\HIMEM.SYS
4. Now save the file and exit the editor.
5. Reboot the machine and try loading C2 again.
6. To restore your memory manager, simply edit your CONFIG.SYS file
as before and remove the REM from the beginning of the line, save
the file, and reboot your computer.
SPEED PROBLEMS
--------------
If you encounter jerky animation and sound, remove the HIMEM.SYS line
from your CONFIG.SYS as explained above. If the problem persists, check
that your system meets Cyberia2's minimum requirements.
The speed at which C2 plays depends in large part upon the speed of the
video card and CD-ROM drive installed in your computer. In most cases,
there is not much you can do about the video card without replacing it.
Check the command lines in your CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files for
the presence of an "M:" parameter. This command sets the number of
available buffers for the CD-ROM drive and should be set to at least 25
for optimum reading performance. Example: "M:25"
Some CD-ROM brands use other parameters to set the buffers. Check the
documentation that came with your CD-ROM for further details about the
buffer setting.
SOUND PROBLEMS
--------------
If you experience any sound related problem, you may have inadvertently
pressed one of the F5-F8 keys (refer to key command chart above to
see what each one does).
Cyberia2 is designed for use with Sound Blaster and 100% compatible
sound cards. Please note that some sound cards are more "100%
compatible" than others. If your card uses a software Sound Blaster
emulator, contact your sound card manufacturer to make sure you have the
latest version.
C2 running in native DOS normally does not require a special setup
program for sound card configuration. If you experience any sound
problems while playing C2, first check your sound card settings,
located in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file. The statement will read something
like this: SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1
* A220 refers to the Base I/O address, the default is 220.
* I5 refers to the interrupt setting, 5 or 7 is normally the setting.
* D1 refers to the DMA channel, the default is normally 1.
If you do not have a SET BLASTER line in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file, you
need to add one. Consult your sound card's manual to determine your
settings and insert them as explained above.
* NOTE: If you use the wrong sound settings in your SET BLASTER
statement, C2 (or any game) may lock up your computer when it
goes to initialize the sound drivers. Simply reboot and change
the settings to the correct configuration.
SPECIAL NOTES FOR WINDOWS 95 USERS
----------------------------------
Under Windows 95, there are potentialliy two additional problems:
1) The correct drivers may not get loaded when Windows 95 restarts
in DOS mode. When you run Cyberia2, the file "CYBERIA2.PIF" gets
copied into C:\CYBERIA2 on your computer. If you have problems
running Cyberia2, you may need to edit C:\CYBERIA2\CYBERIA2.PIF
so that the correct drivers are loaded.
Edit CYBERIA2.PIF by left-clicking on the "My Computer" icon on
your Windows 95 desktop. Open the C:\CYBERIA2 folder and find
"CYBERIA2". It should have a MS-DOS icon. Right click on that
file, and select "Properties". This will allow you to edit the
CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files which will take effect when
Windows 95 boots into DOS. You may need to contact the
manufacturers of your specific hardware in order to obtain the
proper drivers and their settings. Be sure to indicate the complete
path to the file "CYBERIA2.BAT" on your CD-drive.
Once C:\CYBERIA2.PIF is edited, you can test it either by finding
it through your "My Computer" icon, or with the Explorer, and
double-clicking on it.
2) The BLASTER variable may not contain the correct settings, or it
may not be defines at all. If you have problems with the demo
starting up, and you are sure that the correct drivers are being
loaded, please verify that BLASTER contains the correct
values as per the instructions above.
