AVGA2 Windows 3.1 Driver Installation Instructions
--------------------------------------------------
Name Resolutions/Files:
------------ -------------------
AVGA816.DRV 800x600, 16 Colors
AVGA1024.DRV 1024x768, 16 Colors
AVGA8BMM.DRV 640x480, 256 Colors
AVGA8BMM.DRV 800x600, 256 Colors
Installing Windows 3.1:
----------------------
If you have not installed Windows 3.1 on your hard disk, do so now.
Select VGA as the default display device and follow the prompts until
Windows is completely installed. Run Windows to make sure it comes up
and is working. Exit Windows.
Run SETUP from the Windows 3.1 directory in DOS and scroll up to
"Display" using the arrow keys and [Enter]. Scroll down to "Other
(Required disk provided by hardware manufacturer)" and [Enter]. Insert
the AVGA2 Windows 3.1 Drivers Disk in A: or B: and type A: or B: in the
box where Windows prompts to enter the hardware manufacturer display
device driver. For example, type the following:
A:\
You will then be presented with the following:
AVGA2 800x600, 16 Colors
AVGA2 1024x768, 16 Colors
AVGA2 640x480, 256 Colors
AVGA2 800x600, 256 Colors
Select one of these options and [ENTER].
(If you downloaded the A2WIN31.ZIP file from the BBS, copy and unzip this
file to a designated directory. Replace the samples listed here with the
appropriate drive letter and directory name.)
Setup will prompt you to insert the Microsoft Windows 3.1 Disk 2. Instead,
leave the AVGA2 Windows 3.1 Driver Disk in the appropriate drive and type
in the letter and directory in the box and [ENTER], for example:
A:\
Note: Setup may prompt you several more times to insert the Microsoft
Windows 3.1 Disks looking for the following Windows files: VGALOGO.LGO,
VGALOGO.RLE, WIN.CNF, VGAFIX.FON, CGA40WOA.FON, EGA80WOA.FON, etc. If
these files cannot be found by Setup in the Windows 3.1 System directory,
insert the appropriate Windows 3.1 diskette into your floppy drive and
enter the appropriate drive letter in the box. When Setup asks for the
AVGA2 Windows 3.1 Driver Disk, insert this in your floppy drive and change
the drive letter in the box, for example:
A:\
After Setup copies all the appropriate files, Windows will ask you if you
want to accept the changes. Accept them, and Windows should come up in
the resolution you selected. In changing the display again, run Setup
from within Windows. Windows 3.1 requires that you only run the Setup
once from outside Windows, since it creates an OEM0.INF file. This file
is incremented every time Setup is run and "Other (required disk provided
by hardware manufacturer)" is selected as the display option.
