  11. This is v1.06 of the Stealth 64 VRAM Windows v3.1 Driver disk.

  13.  
  14. Windows Installation Notes
  15. --------------------------
  16. Use the INSTALL program to install the Windows 3.1 drivers from DOS
  17. or from the Windows Program Manager.
  18.  
  19. *  Suggestion:  If you are upgrading from a previous version of the
  20.    Diamond InControl Tools, you should install from DOS, not from
  21.    within Windows.  This will bypass errors regarding any files that
  22.    may be in use and cause the installation to fail.
  23.                   
  24. *  Suggestion:  When running the Windows install use MS VGA  
  25.    to eliminate any OEM files that could create a conflict.
  26.  
  27. *  When running a windows install, if the install says 
  28.    "file in use, abort/continue" and the file in question is 
  29.    a font (*.FON) file, continue the install.
  30.  
  31. *  If strange errors occur and text is missing from dialogs,
  32.    check for .VBX files in your \WINDOWS directory.  .VBX files
  33.    should only reside in the \WINDOWS\SYSTEM sub-directory.
  34.  
  35. Once the driver launches Windows, you will be placed in 640x480
  36. 256-color mode and prompted to select your monitor type.  Select 
  37. the brand monitor you have, compatible type, or use the Custom 
  38. Monitor Timings to create your own configuration and custom 
  39. screen centering.
  40.  
  41. *  Icon fonts are controlled by InControl Tools.  When changing
  42.    modes back to VGA or a non-Diamond driver, these settings
  43.    still remain.  To change back to default icon font, search
  44.    the WIN.INI file for the IconTypeFace, IconTypeStyle, and
  45.    IconTypeSize lines.  Place a semicolon (;) in front of these
  46.    lines or remove the lines entirely.
  47.  
  48. *  Only resolutions that have been selected as supported in the
  49.    Display module will be available in the Viewport choices.  If
  50.    your monitor can display a resolution provided by the card,
  51.    go to Display and select a monitor that offers that mode and
  52.    refresh, or select Custom Monitor Timings and Add the mode.
  53.  
  54. *  If Windows only displays a single alphabetic character for the
  55.    icon font, select a different font from the list of InControl
  56.    Tools.  Windows may not support the font type/size requested
  57.    in the resolution and resource size displayed.
  58.  
  59. *  If you had screen savers loaded previously, and they seem not
  60.    to load on startup any longer, see the message at the top 
  61.    regarding backing up important files and the limitation down
  62.    below of LOAD= line being replaced and not appended.  This is
  63.    a limitation of the Windows 3.xx SETUP program. This does not
  64.    occur with the Diamond install.

  67. Trouble Shooting Suggestions
  68. ----------------------------
  69.  
  70. *  If you are experiencing random lock-ups in Windows you can add the
  71.    following line to the [STLTH64.DRV] section of the SYSTEM.INI. This
  72.    type of lock-up may occur with applications that interrogate the
  73.    systems memory searching for virill.
  74.  
  75.      LEAVEMMIODISABLED=1  --  This is set to 0 by default.
  76.  
  77. *  If you are encountering some lock-ups during heavy DMA transfers or
  78.    your motherboard supports bus time-outs then you may try setting
  79.    the following option in the [STLTH64.DRV] section of your SYSTEM.INI
  80.  
  81.      BUSYCHECK=ON  --  This is set to OFF by default.
  82.  
  83. *  If you are using Lenny Music Tunes, Microsoft Art Gallery, Small
  84.    Blue Planet, Ocean Below, Vampire's Coffin, D-Day, all of the
  85.    Brightstart education CD's, and other similar applications, you
  86.    will want to add the following line to the [STLTH64.DRV] section
  87.    of the SYSTEM.INI.  This will correct the corrupted screens you
  88.    may experience during animation sequences.
  89.  
  90.      DEVICEBITMAPS=1 -- This is set to 0 by default.
  91.  
  92.    With the fix enabled you may possibly experience compatibility issues
  93.    with other programs; one confirmed problem is with Adobe Illustrator
  94.    v4.01.
  95.

  97.    * IMPORTANT NOTE:  This is a problem with the way bitmaps are treated
  98.                       by the application. This is not a deficiency in the
  99.                       driver.  We have provided a means to correct this
  100.                       issue, until the software vendor rectifies the problem.
  101.                       All Edutainment vendors have been made aware of the
  102.                       problem and are currently taking steps to correct the
  103.                       bitmap issue.

  121.  640x480, 800x600, 1024x768x8/32bpp, MS Access 2.0 ,
  122.  MSACCESS caused a GPF in STLTH64.DRV
  123.  @ 0003:0F9E (8bpp) @ 0003:1101 (32bpp)

  125.  1024x768x8/16bpp, Corel 5.0, Draw an oval | Open Fill
  126.  Settings Roll-up | Apply gradient fill (from
  127.  inside-out) | Horizntal lines (usually white) will appear
  128.  on left side of drawing.

  130.  1024x768 8bpp, Corel 4.0, | FILE | OPEN | REPTILES.PAT |
  131.  RESIZE the drawing, Horizontal lines will
  132.  corrupt the current drawing.

  149.  WinCIM v1.3, GPF when viewing a
  150.  JPEG file online.  In 1024x768x16bpp, GPF occurs in

  153.  1024x768x32bpp, Fractal Design Painter 2, GPF in
  154.  AISPORT2.DLL at 002F:0BD5 when saving an
  155.  image.

  160.  1024x768x8bpp, Smart Label Printer Pro, click on the icon

  166.  Win 3.11 | If customer removes Load=dcskey.exe from

  199.  800x600x32bpp, 1024x768x32bpp, Small Blue Planet, "Runtime
  200.  Error : Stack Overflow" when the
  201.  application is loaded.  NOTE: This will occur with ALL
  202.  32bpp drivers.
  203.  
  204.  Any mode,  Shell to DOS | Run S64MODE | CUSTOM | Select
  205.  1024x768x65k (or 16M) | Select a
  206.  refresh rate | Kicks out of Windows to DOS.  Cold boot
  207.  required.  However, choosing 1024x768x256 or
  208.  800x600x65k or 16M or 640x480x65k or 16M are OK.

  210.  All resolutions, 16/24bpp, Paintbrush, Print to HP
  211.  LaserJet 4 | Prints nothing.

  213.  Run Landmark Speed - it will drop you to a dos prompt.
  214.  This is a limitation of the application, if you
  215.  run a DX2/66 in non-turbo mode, the program will work
  216.  fine, in turbo mode the system hangs, this is a
  217.  issue with the application itself, not the driver.

  222.     Some monitors which do not support DPMS will start scrolling until
  223.     entering into Sleep mode.
