MPC Wizard Note
---------------
The setup program for these disks require the decompression program
PKUNZIP.EXE. The MPC Wizard can't provide this program, but you can
download the shareware version from most computer bulletin boards.

-------------
This is v1.05 of the Viper SE Install/Utilities/Drivers disk set.
****************PREPARE FOR WINDOWS 3.1 INSTALLATION*************************
1. Make a directory call WIN31 under your existing Viper SE
directory or can be anywhere on your hard drive.
2. Copy the WIN31.EXE from this expanded files to that directory.
3. Run WIN31.EXE
4. Follow steps below to complete the installation.
Windows Installation Notes
--------------------------
1. Install Windows 3.1 display driver to VGA.
2. Run Windows.
3. Insert Viper PRO Windows 3.1 Driver Disk into your floppy drive.
4. From the program Manager Choose File | Run.
5. From the Run menu type: %PATH%INST {Example: C:\WIN31\INST}.
This will run the Viper PRO Installation.
6. From the installation menu you must click the install button before you
can choose your resolution, font size, monitor type, color depth and
cursor size.
7. After the files have been copied to your hard disk you will have all of
the options in the Viper PRO Installation available to you.
8. Now you can choose you resolution, font size, monitor, color depth, and
cursor size.
9. Press OK for new changes to take effect.
10. Press YES to restart Windows.
%PATH% - THIS PATH IS WHERE YOUR DRIVERS ARE LOCATED.
If you wish to change your resolution at another time you can run the
Viper PRO Configuration icon in the program group Diamond Viper PRO.
To update Viper SE/PRO Windows 3.1 Drivers:
1. Run Windows 3.1 Setup and select VGA display driver.
2. Run Viper PRO Configuration utility.
3. Press REMOVE to remove Viper PRO Windows Drivers from hard drive.
4. Follow steps 3-10 above.
* For monitor centering option, install VPROMODE.EXE from "GO".
(see DOS Utilities Installation).
The following Windows 3.1 drivers are included:

Known Limitations
-----------------
DOSSHELL in graphics modes do not function properly.
* Special Note for VL-BUS users:
--------------------------------
Default Memory Base Address for Windows 3.1 is 80000000. Some
motherboards do not support this address. Windows will be blank
screen or lock-up.
1. Run Windows 3.1 SETUP.
2. Select VGA for display driver.
3. Run Windows.
4. Run Viper PRO Configuration Utility.
5. Select "Mem Addr" menu.
6. Select different Memory Base Address.
7. Memory Base Addresses available:

DOS Utilities Installation Notes
--------------------------------
1. Insert Disk 1 "Installation/Utilities & AutoCAD drivers"
into your floppy drive.
2. Run GO at the DOS prompt.
3. Select source drive.
4. VPROMODE.EXE will be copied to C:\VIPERPRO.
5. VPROMODE.EXE will be executed to configure Viper SE/PRO.
6. Press <YES> to save the configurations into P9X00RES.DAT.
7. Specify Windows 3.1 directory. Default=C:\WINDOWS
Utilities
---------
VPROMODE.EXE is a command line and menu driven mode and monitor setting
utility. Use VPROMODE.EXE to configure the Viper PRO for your particular
monitor, select a text display mode, and to run Viper PRO diagnostics.
VPROMODE saves monitor timing information to the P9X00RES.DAT file.
To center your monitor:
1. Change directory to C:\VIPERPRO.
2. Run VPROMODE at the DOS prompt.
3. Select Monitor in the menu.
4. Scroll down to CUSTOM.
5. Select mode and center the screen.
6. After centering, press <ESCAPE> twice.
7. Press <ENTER> to save new configuration.
VPROPM.EXE is a DOS Display Power Managment driver. Please refer to
VPROPM.DOC for additional information and instalation information.
DPMS.EXE is the Windows Display Power Managment driver.
*Please refer to the VPROPM.DOC for installation information.
Known Limitations
-----------------
DPMS does not support all Protected mode programs. These
include programs such as AutoCad, Microstation, and games
such as Links 386, Doom, etc.
Microstation 4.0
----------------
(Weitek Microstation 4.0 v2.3.3 by Vibrant Graphics).
1. Insert Disk 1 "Installation/Utilities & AutoCAD drivers"
into your floppy drive.
2. Run GO from DOS prompt.
3. Select CAD menu.
4. Select Microstation 4.0.
5. GO will install the drivers into C:\USTATION.
6. GO wil create VPROUSTA.BAT with following environment variables:
SET WTKCFG=C:\USTATION\DRIVERS\WTKCFG.DAT
7. AUTOEXEC.BAT will be updated.
To configure Microstation 4.0:
1. Run USCONFIG.
2. Select to configure for DOS version.
3. Select Display Adapters to modify Microstation Configuration.
4. Select Weitek Microstation 4.0.
5. Select Weitek Power 9100 for Card Selection.
6. Select desired resolution/mode.
7. Configure other screen options.
8. SAVE configuration.
9. Configure other Microstation 4.0 options.
10. EXIT and SAVE.
11. Run USTATION.
Viper SE/PRO VGA BIOS
---------------------
VESA VBE function 07h(Set/Get Display Start) is not supported at this time.
Some applications which supports double buffering or page flipping will not
work properly. (i.e. Flight Simulator 5.0)
Windows NT
----------
This document is provided to aid the user in installing the VIPER SE
Windows NT drivers (rev. 00.00.05 - 06/24/94)
Files supplied for use with NT:
DISK1
OEMSETUP.INF
P9100.DLL
P9100.SYS
P9100RES.DAT
P91INST.EXE
Windows NT Installation:
1. Double click on the Windows NT setup icon (found in the MAIN group)
to install the Standard VGA driver.
NOTE: If you already installed the VIPER SE and you were
previously using a high resolution driver, you may need
to install your previous video card to get back to VGA.
This may be the case if Windows NT does not load, and
displays a blank or garbaged screen.
2. Once you have Windows NT running in Standard VGA, with the VIPER SE
installed, double click on the Windows NT setup icon
(found in the MAIN group).
3. From the OPTIONS menu, select CHANGE SYSTEM SETTINGS.
5. Click on the down arrow to the right of the Display: line.
6. Scroll to the bottom of the Windows NT driver list, and select
Other (Requires a disk from a hardware manufacturer)
7. Place the VIPER SE Windows NT disk in a floppy drive, and type in
the proper drive path. (e.g. A:\ or B:\) Click OK.
NOTE: Take into consideration the amount of memory on your
VIPER SE. Some of the modes supplied are NOT
supported if the card has only 2MB of video memory.

8. Select the resolution and color depth of your choice.
Be sure to select a resolution and refresh rate that your
monitor is capable of supporting.
9. Click OK to accept driver.
10. Be sure that the driver is listed on Display: line and Click CLOSE
to have Windows NT accept the changes.
11. Click NEW to install the new VIPER SE driver.
12. Place the VIPER SE Windows NT disk in a floppy drive, and type in
the proper drive path. (e.g. A:\ or B:\) Click OK.
13. Files will then be copied from the diskette to the Windows NT
system.
14. Select a compatible monitor from the list provided. If your
monitor does not appear, please select GENERIC. Click OK to
accept.
15. From the OPTIONS menu, select EXIT.
You must restart Windows NT for the changes to take affect.
If after you have installed the driver using the above instructions, and
Windows NT comes up in Standard VGA when restarted, it could be that you
selected a mode that your VIPER SE cannot support because it is a 2MB
card, has the Bt DAC, or the refresh rate is to high for your monitor.
Please double check to insure that your system can run the desired
resolution. If problems persist, you may contact Diamond Technical
Support.
Known Limitations
-----------------
In all 24 Bpp and 32 Bpp modes, an application error will occur in
Paintbrush.
* Special Note for VL-BUS users:

Default Memory Base Address for Windows NT is 80000000. Some

1. Restore Windows NT to VGA driver.
2. Reboot Windows NT.
3. Select Last Known Good to VGA.
4. Edit P9100RES.DAT file on DISK 1 "Installation/Utilities & AutoCAD driver."
5. Modify MemAddr = 8000 to different Memory Base Address.
