  10. This diskette contains these high-resolution drivers for Windows 3.1:

  19. This file tells how to install the Windows drivers on your computer.
  20.

  22. NOTE:  If you select a driver that requires more video memory than is
  23.        available in the video subsystem, Windows will not operate 
  24.        correctly.  Run Windows SETUP and select a driver with the 
  25.        appropriate video subsystem memory requirement.

  30. Installing the Video Drivers and Power Management Feature Under Windows
  31. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  32. The Graphic Installation Interface lets you easily install the Trident
  33. video drivers and power management feature from within Windows.
  34. Follow these steps:
  35.  
  36. 1. First install MS Windows 3.1 using the standard IBM VGA driver.
  37.  
  38. 2. Make sure Windows 3.1 is working properly.  Have your Windows 3.1
  39.    Setup diskettes on hand, as the installation process requires them.
  40.  
  41. 3. Run Windows 3.1 and select the MAIN group in the Program Manager.
  42.  
  43. 4. Insert the this diskette in a floppy drive, such as drive A.
  44.  
  45. 5. Select FILE MANAGER in the MAIN group, then select the floppy drive
  46.    that this diskette is in ( e.g., drive A:).
  47.  
  48. 6. Double-click on the file TINSTALL.EXE, which resides in the \WIN
  49.    subdirectory of this diskette.  TINSTALL copies ALL driver files
  50.    into a subdirectory named TRIDENT on your hard disk.  If desired,
  51.    you can use another directory name instead of the default name,
  52.    TRIDENT.  TINSTALL also copies the font files that the drivers use
  53.    from your Windows Setup diskettes to your \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory.
  54.  
  55.    NOTE:  TINSTALL expects to find certain font files on certain Windows
  56.       Setup diskettes.  If you have a European-language version of Windows,
  57.       such as German, some font files are on different diskettes.  When 
  58.       the program does not find a file on a diskette, a Check Diskette 
  59.       window opens.  Select the "As It Was" option in this window.  Then 
  60.       continue with the installation, inserting Windows Setup diskettes 
  61.       in the floppy drive in sequential order, until the program finds 
  62.       all the files it needs and finishes the installation.

  64.    The program creates a program group named GRAPHICS DRIVER & UTILITIES.  
  65.    This window contains GRAPHICS SETUP and POWER MANAGEMENT icons.
  66.    (POWER MANAGEMENT icon occurs only on TGUI9400CXi and later chips,
  67.    it does not occur on ealier chips such as  TVGA8900 series and
  68.    TVGA9000 series chips because this program only supports TGUI9400CXi and 
  69.    later chips.)

  71. 7. Click GRAPHICS SETUP, then select VIDEO DRIVER SETUP.  Select a suitable 
  72.    driver and click Setup.  Follow the instructions to finish Setup.

  76. VESA Display Power Management Signaling (DPMS)
  77. -----------------------------------------------
  78. The POWER MANAGEMENT program, in the DRIVER & UTILITIES program group,
  79. is designed for energy-saving monitors that conform to the VESA Display Power
  80. Management Signaling (DPMS) standard. If your monitor meets the VESA
  81. DPMS specification, you can use POWER MANAGEMENT to decrease monitor energy
  82. consumption.  The program offers three power-down modes:
  83.  1.  Standby (minimum power savings)
  84.  2.  Suspend (substantial power savings)
  85.  3.  Off state (maximum power savings)
  86.  
  87. The program monitors mouse and/or keyboard activity.  When it detects no
  88. activity for a specified delay period, the program signals the monitor to
  89. enter the selected power-down mode.
  90.  
  91. NOTE:  1. Be sure your monitor supports the VESA DPMS standard before using the
  92.       POWER MANAGEMENT program.  If your monitor does not support DPMS, it 
  93.       may malfunction or operate unpredictably when you enable the program.

  95.        2. Power Management Program ONLY supports TGUI9400CXi and the later
  96.       chips, it does not run correctly on the earlier TVGA chips.

  100.         Power Management Program Options
  101.         --------------------------------
  102. Delay Time -   First, DISABLE the program (click the Enable/Disable button
  103.            at the bottom of the window so Enable shows, indicating that
  104.            the program is Disabled).  Then set a delay time, from 0 to
  105.            999 minutes, for each mode.  The monitor first enters the
  106.            power-down mode with the shortest delay time.  When it reaches
  107.            the next-shortest delay time, it enters the corresponding mode.
  108.            And last, it enters the power-down mode with the longest delay
  109.            time.  We recommend that you leave OFF STATE with the longest
  110.            delay time, because the monitor cannot enter any other mode
  111.            from OFF STATE.
  112.     
  113. Clock On/Off - Turns the delay timer display (the digital display in the
  114.            upper left of the window) on or off.  The display shows only
  115.            when the program is ENABLED.
  116.     
  117. Clock Alarm -  When the alarm is set, the computer beeps for 5 seconds before
  118.            entering a power-down mode.
  119.  
  120. Touch Types -  Selects which device(s) to monitor for activity.  The delay
  121.            timer will reset to the specified delay time when activity is
  122.            detected on the selected device(s).
  123.  
  124. Password -     After you select a password and ENABLE the option, you must enter
  125.            your password before the monitor can exit any power-down mode it
  126.            has entered. USE THIS FEATURE WITH CARE! If you forget the 
  127.            password, you may be "locked in" at one power down mode.

  130. Auto Start/ - Auto Start automatically loads the program in a minimized icon
  131. Uninstall     at the bottom of the Windows desktop each time you start Windows.
  132.           Uninstall cancels the automatic start feature.  Keep in mind that
  133.           the button label is the OPPOSITE of the active state.
  134.  
  135. Test -        Lets you test the sequence of power-down modes.
  136.  
  137. Enable/  -    Enables or disables the Power Management program.  Keep in mind
  138. Disable       that the button label is the OPPOSITE of the active state.
  139.  
  140. Exit  -       Closes the program window.

  144. Selecting a Driver Through Windows SETUP
  145. ----------------------------------------
  146. If you don't want the GRAPHICS DRIVER & UTILITIES program group in your
  147. Windows Program Manager, you can select a high-resolution driver with
  148. Windows SETUP.
  149.  
  150. 1. First install MS Windows 3.1 using the standard IBM VGA driver.
  151.  
  152. 2. Make sure Windows 3.1 is working properly.  Exit Windows.
  153.  
  154. 3. Change to your Windows 3.1 directory (e.g., c:\WINDOWS).
  155.  
  156. 4. At the DOS prompt, type SETUP.  When the program opens, highlight
  157.    the Display field under System Information.
  158.  
  159. 5. Insert this disk in your floppy drive and select the display driver
  160.    option "Other (requires diskette...)".
  161.  
  162. 6. When prompted, enter the path of this disk (e.g., A:\WIN).
  163.  
  164. 7. Select a suitable driver.
  165.  
  166. 8. Follow the program instructions to finish SETUP.

  171. Installing the Trident Drivers Over a Network
  172. ---------------------------------------------
  173.  
  174. You cannot install Windows drivers on a network with SETUP/N,  using the
  175. SETUP method described previously.  The driver files are not copied
  176. correctly to the network Windows directory or the local Windows directory,
  177. because the standard SETUP program uses Microsoft COMPRESS to expand
  178. the compressed files, while SETUP/N does not.
  179.  
  180. Here is the solution:
  181.  
  182. 1.  Expand the five Windows 3.1 disks to your network Windows
  183.     directory, following the directions in "Getting Started with
  184.     Microsoft Windows," pages 6-9.
  185.  
  186. 2.  Use the same method to expand the Trident Windows drivers
  187.     to the same network Windows directory.
  188.  
  189. 3.  Run SETUP/N to install Windows, following the directions in the
  190.     "Getting Started" manual.  Select "Other" as the Trident Video Driver.
  191.  
  192. 4.  Enter the path of the TRIDENT drivers (i.e., your Windows 
  193.     network directory).
  194.  
  195. 5.  Select a suitable TRIDENT driver.
  196.  
  197. 6.  Follow the program instructions to finish SETUP/N.
