  7. INTRODUCTION:
  8.  
  9. Graphics Developer With Slide Show (GDWSS) is an application 
  10. designed to help you browse, search, find, create, view, 
  11. enhance, convert, and print your picture files. You can crop 
  12. it, adjust the shading, size, orientation, placement on the 
  13. page, and aspect ratio.  You can even reduce the color 
  14. content and convert color images to gray scale images for 
  15. laser printing.  It works with many different kinds of 
  16. picture file types such as TIFF, GIF, JPEG, PICT, Raster, 
  17. Targa, Bitmap, and more.

  19. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
  20.  
  21.  * Microsoft Windows 3.1 and DOS 5.3 or higher
  22.  * A hard disk and a mouse
  23.  * 80386/16 MHz CPU, 486/33 MHz or higher recommended
  24.  * A minimum of 4 Meg of RAM; 8 Meg recommended
  25.  * Approximately 1.3 Meg of hard disk space
  26.  * To edit images, you'll need Windows PaintBrush or 
  27.    another graphics editor program
  28.  * GDWSS supports all Windows graphics-compatible printers
  29.

  31. GDWSS FEATURES:

  33.  * Extensive file format support, including support for TIFF, 
  34.    JPEG, BMP, PCX, DCX, CUT, PICT, EPS, GIF, Targa, and Sun 
  35.    Rasterfile.

  38.    filp, rotating, crop, warp and scaling, re-orienting, and

  56. INSTALLING GDWSS:
  57.  
  58. If you received one compressed file:
  59.  
  60.   1) Unzip GDWSS.ZIP or run GDWSS.EXE from DOS or Windows 
  61.      File Manager to expand the files.  
  62.  
  63. If you received a disk with all of the compressed files
  64. or after expanding the files:
  65.  
  66.   2) If you have an existing version of GDWSS run uninstal.bat
  67.      first.  This will delete the old files in your 
  68.      Windows\System directory. All files are now installed to 
  69.      the GDWSS directory instead of Windows\System.
  70.  
  71.   3) Run SETUP.EXE which will uncompress the files and install 
  72.      GDWSS to the default or selected directory and create icons 
  73.      in Program Manager.
  74.

  107. GDWSS is written in Visual Basic Ver 3.0.  You will need 
  108. the runtime DLL for Visual Basic: VBRUN300.DLL.  This may
  109. not come with your copy but can be downloaded from most

  118. GETTING STARTED:
  119.  
  120. To begin using Graphics Developer With Slide Show double click 
  121. on the GDWSS icon in Program Manager created by GDWSS SETUP.EXE 
  122. or double click on GDWSS.EXE in File Manager.  
  123.  
  124. Graphics Develeper and Slide Show are combined into one program.
  125. You can create two seperate icons in Program Manager, one to 
  126. start Slide Show directly and one to start Graphics Developer 
  127. directly.  To have the Slide Show form come up first use 
  128. "GDWSS.EXE /SS" in the command line.  To have Graphics Developer 
  129. come up first use "GDWSS.EXE" or "GDWSS.EXE /DEV" in the command 
  130. line.  You can also follow GDWSS.EXE with a path and file name 
  131. and Graphics developer will be first to start with that picture 
  132. file.  See GDWSS.HLP for more information on using GDWSS.

  135. UNINSTALL
  136.  
  137. To uninstall Graphics Developer, run UNINSTAL.BAT located
  138. in the directory GDWSS.EXE is located.  You may need to
  139. edit the file if you specified a location other than
  140. C:\GDWSS.  You can also uninstall Graphics Developer by
  141. running Graphics Developer's SETUP.EXE again.  Input the
  142. current GDWSS directory path in the "Install To:" box.  Run 
  143. setup until you get to the question about where to put 
  144. GDWSS .DLL and .VBX files.  Click on CANCEL and the install 
  145. will be terminated and all GDWSS files will be deleted.  
  146. You can also manually deleting the program files listed above.  
  147. You probably do not want to delete CMDIALOG.VBX, THREED.VBX, 
  148. or COMMDLG.DLL from your Windows\System direcory.  They may 
  149. be used by other programs.  this will 
  150. delete old GDWSS files during startup.
  151.  
  152.  
  153. TROUBLE SHOOTING TIPS:
  154.  
  155. 1. Format conversion problems - some formats will not convert to 
  156. others.  Try reducing the number of colors, changing palettes, 
  157. or going to greyscale.  For example to convert from .BMP to .JPG 
  158. or be able to use the FILTER functions, first convert the .BMP 
  159. to Class "True Color" or "Grayscale", then you can use FILTERS 
  160. and /or "Save As" with a .JPG extension.
  161.  
  162. 2. If you want to convert your pictures so you can edit them with 
  163. Windows Paint Brush first make sure you convert the image class 
  164. to Palette, if it isn't already, using the Development Toolbar 
  165. "Convert" option.  Then use SaveAs .PCX or .BMP no compression.
  166.  
  167. 3. If you bring up the .JPG files you received with GDWSS and 
  168. they look grainy or off color, you can try to load a different 
  169. display driver with more colors and/or a higher resolution.  You 
  170. do this by running C:\WINDOWS\SETUP.EXE.
  171.  
  172. 4. Using full screen slide show with icons from the file list may 
  173. not work correctly if the "Keep Existing Graphics" options is 
  174. set.  Turn this option off (located on the setup form) and try 
  175. again. 
  176.  
  177. 5. Gallery printing may not work with some HP printers.  If you 
  178. have this problem, let me know and I will send you an update when 
  179. the fixes are made to the HGC.VBX.
  180.  
  181. 6. If you get an error during installation about not being able
  182. to load DDEMD.DL_, don't worry about it.  You already have it
  183. in your system.  Click OK to continue the intallation.
  184.  
  185. 7. If you install all GDWSS files to the same directory and
  186. get a file not found error, copy all VBX and DLL files in the
  187. GDWSS directory to your WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory and try again.  
  188.  
  189. 8. GDWSS uses a lot of system resources.  If it is running too 
  190. slow or graphics are taking too long to load, your system may not 
  191. have enough horsepower to run this application.
  192.  
  193. 9. Memory Problems - Even at 8 Meg you can run into memory 
  194. problems with this application since it is graphics intensive.  
  195. 12 Meg or higher seems to work best.  If you have 8 Meg or less, 
  196. limit the number of thumbnails you create and display.  Do not 
  197. do a Find Files using a pattern of *.* which searches the entire 
  198. hard drive.
  199.  
  200. 10. GDWSS currently only supports writing to the Postscript (.EPS)
  201. graphics format.  It will not read and display them.  
  202.  
  203.  
  204. SHAREWARE/REGISTRATION:
  205.  
  206. Graphics Developer With Slide Show is a shareware program.  
  207. You may use it for a trial period of up to 30 days.  After that 
  208. time, you must register your copy of the program.  The 
  209. registration fee is $25.  Registered users will receive the very 
  210. latest version of the program, notification of future releases,
  211. and full online support.
  212.  
  213. To register your copy: run the program and when the About form 
  214. is displayed, click on the Register button and a registration 
  215. form will be displayed.  Click on the Print Topic button to 
  216. print out a registration form.  Fill out the registration form 
  217. and mail it with your payment to the address on the form.  You
  218. will be mailed the most recent, registered version of Grahics 
  219. Developer.  If you do not use the registration form, send your 
  220. name and address and check or money order to:

  235.     2.  Adding a "Screen Capture" utility
  236.     3.  Adding TWAIN-compatible scanning functions
  237.     4.  Adding OLE 2.0 compatible drag-and-drop

  239.     6.  Any other user suggestions.

  242. LICENSE INFORMATION:
  243.  
  244. Each copy of the program may be used on only one computer at any 
  245. one time.  If used on a network system, each user is considered 
  246. to be using a distinct copy of the licensed program whether or 
  247. not he or she is actually using it.
  248.  
  249. SKISOFT, Inc. warrants that for a period of ninety days 
  250. from the date of delivery of the licensed program, the program, 
  251. if unmodified by the Licensee, will perform in substantial 
  252. conformity with the user documentation.  SKISOFT, Inc. does not 
  253. warrant that the licensed program is free from coding errors.  
  254. Any modifications to the licensed program shall thereafter be 
  255. licensed AS IS.

  257. The above warranty does not apply to the extent that any
  258. failure of the licensed program to perform as warranted is caused 
  259. by the licensed program being (1) not used in accordance with the 
  260. user documentation, or (2) modified by any person other than 
  261. authorized SKISOFT, Inc. personnel.
