  23. What's New in 4.0

  26. - Printing     - Print entire scores, or selected pages.
  27.         - Print preview - Preview how scores will look online.

  29. - Events     - Support for all MIDI events through the Event Bar
  30.           and an intuitive Event Dialog.

  32. - Dotted Notes     - Support for dotted notes has been added. Use the 
  33.           symbol / dot menu item to toggle the dot option.

  35. - Registration     - A code will be sent to registered users that will
  36.           show the users name in the About box and make the 
  37.           start-up wait period disappear.

  40. Other Features

  43.     Standard music notation
  44.  
  45.     Uses standard .MID ( MIDI ) files.
  46.  
  47.     Music can be put into the application with the mouse, through 
  48.         a keyboard, or from existing standard MIDI files.
  49.     MIDI Studio can display whole, half, quarter, eighth, sixteenth, 
  50.         and thirty-second notes and rests. Each note or 
  51.         rest has a default duration. The actual duration 
  52.         of a note or rest can be adjusted. 
  53.     Flat, sharp, or natural symbols for each note.
  54.     Key Signature on the staff.
  55.     Time Signature on the staff.
  56.     View two, three, or four bars of a song in the staff area. 
  57.     Three options for mouse input:
  58.         Align to Beat - The note is automatically aligned to the 
  59.             nearest    thirty-second beat.
  60.         Sequential - The note is appended to the end of the 
  61.             current track.
  62.         Free form - The note is placed on the nearest beat to 
  63.             where the mouse was clicked.

  65.     Control Panel 
  66.         The Control Panel provides buttons and Faders that let 
  67.             you access some of the features of  MIDI Studio. 
  68.         Buttons to see the next and previous bars. 
  69.         Buttons to play the current bars, the whole song, and 
  70.             to stop play.
  71.         Buttons to turn tracks on or off, and check boxes that 
  72.             display track status at all times.
  73.         Note Bar - To easily change the current note.
  74.         Buttons to clear and refresh the screen.
  75.         Faders to control tempo and velocity.
  76.         Buttons to start and stop recording for a synthesizer.

  78.     Voice Information
  79.         Voice information about any synthesizer can be set up in 
  80.             ordinary files. MIDI Studio uses these files to 
  81.             let you set the voices for each song.
  82.         Voice information can be set up and saved for each song.
  83.         Voice information is sent to the synthesizer when a song 
  84.             is played.

  92. Installation

  95. Unzip the files into their own directory.
  96.  
  97. MStudio.ini is the initialization file for the system. Copy it to 
  98. your windows directory ( EG. C:\WINDOWS ).
  99.  
  100. To use print or print preview the Musical Symbols font must be 
  101. installed on your system. The two files musical.fot and musical.ttf
  102. make up the font. Use the Control Panel / Fonts icon to load the 
  103. font.

  105. Run MSTUDIO.EXE

  107. ** NOTES **
  108.  
  109. BWCC.DLL
  110.  
  111. MIDI STUDIO requires the file BWCC.DLL to run properly. In most 
  112. cases the file is included in the .zip file. If it is not, it is 
  113. available on most BBS systems, on CompuServe (GO BORLAND), and on 
  114. many internet sites.

  116. Print Preview 
  117.  
  118.  Some video drivers distort the size of the             
  119. preview page, and some can not interpret the font. If there 
  120. are problems with the Print Preview window try the                     standard windows VGA video driver 
  121. from the setup program. The printed page will not be affected by 
  122. these problems.

  125. Windows Interface Drivers
  126. ==========================

  128. Unless you have used othe MIDI tools in the past, the MIDI drivers
  129. for your sound board may noy be installed. The Windows control panel
  130. is used to install drivers. It can usually be found in the Main 
  131. Windows control group, or use the File/Run menu items to run the
  132. control.exe program.

  134. Double click on the Drivers icon in the control panel. The Drivers 
  135. currently installed on your computer will be listed. If there is no
  136. listing for a driver for your sound board choose the Add button.
  137.  
  138. A list of some of the most popular drivers will be presented. If a 
  139. driver for your sound board is shown, double click on it. You will be 
  140. asked to insert one of the Windows diskettes so that the driver can 
  141. be copied on to your computer. If there is no driver for your sound
  142. board listed, the best place to look for it is the disks that came
  143. with your sound board. Choose the "Unlisted or updated driver" line
  144. and insert each disk that came with your board. If a driver is found,
  145. the name will be shown toyou and you will be asked if you want to 
  146. install the driver.

  148. Windows needs to be restarted after the driver has been installed.
  149.  
  150. The driver that you installed should now show as an option on the 
  151. Config... dialog inside MIDI Studio. If the device is capable of 
  152. play and record, it will show on both the play and record lists. 
  153. If it is a play only device, such as SB PRO FM or Adlib, it 
  154. will show on the play list only.
