MAGIC CROCHET
Published by
Les Editions de Saxe S.A.
69358 Lyon Cedex 7
France
Canadian address:
279 Humberline Drive
Rexdale, Ontario, M9W 6L1
The information I have for this may be out of date. I'm sure
the price is different now. I only have issues from 1990.
$16.95 / year for 6 issues
Normal magazine size, thin, but non-newspaper quality paper,
color photographs and items shown are usually quite
beautiful. Patterns are given in "graphical" format with
some text instructions which I find confusing. Mostly thread
patterns. Issue was 82 pages.
QUICK AND EASY CROCHET
This magazine may be out of print. The most recent issue I
have is from 1988.
$18.00 / year 6 issues
Grass Roots Publishing Company, Inc.
950 Third Avenue,
New York, NY
Subscription inquries should be addressed to:
P.O. Box 363
Brewster, NY 10509-0363
Digest size. Color photos but thin, newspapery paper. The
issue I have is 87 pages.
All the magazines also usually include a letter from the
editor, a "questions and answers" column, a penpal list,
basic crochet stiches guide, a topical column on a crochet
subject like crochet decor, bazaar tips etc. McCall's
Crochet tends to have some of the more interesting columns.
For instance, their latest was a great article on gauge,
thread/yarn sizes and how hook sizes can vary according to
where they are manufactured.
The magazines are listed in my preference order with the ones
I like best at the top. :) The digest size ones are usually my
favorite. They are very convenient to carry with you, the
paper is nice and sturdy with great pictures and above all,
they have patterns you can understand with ease.
I love the items shown in McCall's Crochet, but sometimes the
directions are a bit confusing and I don't like the
thin type of paper the patterns are typed on. It's not exactly newspaper,
but it's close.
I still subscribe to all three of the mags. from House of White Birches,
but I must say that it's not very often I see a pattern in there I like.
I don't subscribe to Magic Crochet any longer because I found
the "graphical" patterns too difficult to follow, but I've
kept the issues I did receive in case I care to try the
"graphical" instructions again after I've had more practice.
I've actually been crocheting about 20 years, but it's only
been during the last 4 years that I've started making a
serious hobby out of it.
If you subscribe to Annie's, you'll no doubt receive her
catalog of needlework products and patterns if you don't receive it
already. Great stuff!
If you subscribe to any of the NeedleCraft Shop magazines,
you'll most definitely get on their mailing list for their
catalog of similar items.
