- _Subject: all-machine bindings_
- I take the binding, fold it in half, and sew it to the front of the quilt,
- either with the walking or regular foot. Then I attach the edging foot (I
- think #10 on my Bernina. The one that comes with the Bernina is I think the 6
- and it doesn't guide correctly.) I fold the binding around to the back. I do
- this by hand for the few inches just in front of where I am sewing, so I don't
- need to go around and pin the whole thing (a real bother.) I have figured or
- trialerrored the binding to be wide enough so that it extends in beyond the
- first sewing line of the binding. The edging foot has a center guide, so that
- when I run the guide right along folded edge in front, the seam falls directly
- along the guide and hides in the roll of the top. The fold of the binding on
- the back extends beyond the sewing line and it is caught by this second seam.
- A wider binding means that the binding is sure to be caught, but it extends
- more. A narrower binding means that it is just caught, but also sometimes just
- misses. This last seam hides in the roll of the top, but shows from the back.
- But my quilts are machine quilted, and I am not embarrassed by having a seam
- line show.
