  76. Internet Startup Problems and Workarounds:

  78.   "INSTALL MORE COOL SOFTWARE"
  79.   Contains: 
  80.   PLUG-INS: Inso - WordViewer, Visual Components' - Formula One/NET,

  85. * You are required to install Netscape Navigator Personal Edition first,
  86.   then install the accompanying plug-ins.
  87. * When installing plug-ins, the Internet Startup Shell will search for
  88.   an installed Netscape.exe file. If this file is not found, you will 
  89.   be prompted to 'Please locate your copy of Netscape Navigator
  90.   (Netscape.exe).  Select 'OK'.  Next, you will be prompted with 
  91.   a browsing dialog that will allow you to search for the installed
  92.   Netscape.exe file.  If you installed Netscape Navigator Personal 
  93.   Edition3.0 to its default location, the .exe file can be found in the

  105. * The Setup screen for each plug-in may disappear behind the Internet 
  106.   Startup Shell immediately after the netscape.exe file is found.  
  107.   Select Alt + Tab to multi-task between the shell and plug-in to 
  108.   proceed with the installation.

  110. *  You must have at least a 256 color display.  If you do not have
  111.    a 256 color display, you may still install Netscape Personal 
  112.    Edition.

  114.    From the Windows 3.1 Program Manager, select File | Run.  Under

  124.    applications.  Use the ALT-TAB key combination to move between

  128.    Companion Software (Plug-Ins).  Internet Startup will ask you 
  129.    where Netscape is installed before you can install Plug-Ins.

  132.    version of Windows you are using.

  134. *  Do not remove the CD from your CD-ROM drive while Internet 
  135.    Startup is running.  If you do, re-insert the CD, and click

  139. INSTALL WIZARD, ACCOUNT SETUP WIZARD, AND DIALER

  250. The Netscape installer will overwrite existing OLE2 DLLs with the
  251. latest versions for US Windows. This will not affect 32-bit
  252. Windows. For 16-bit Windows, the only difference between the US
  253. and the Japanese versions are the internationalization of error
  254. strings. Occasionally, the Japanese user may see an English
  255. language OLE2 error message after installing Netscape. Currently,
  256. there are no Japanese versions available for the OLE2 DLLs.
  257. Netscape is working with Microsoft to make the Japanese version of
  258. the OLE2 DLLs available.

  261.               Information about the Quicktime Plug-in

  265. This part describes what you will need and how to use the
  266. Windows version of Apple's QuickTime plug-ins for Netscape
  267. Navigator 3.0.
  268.  
  269. WHAT THE QUICKTIME PLUG-IN DOES:
  270.  
  271. Apple's QuickTime plug-in for Netscape Navigator 3.0 or
  272. later lets you experience QuickTime content directly in the
  273. Navigator browser window. You no longer need a "helper
  274. application" like MoviePlayer to view QuickTime content with
  275. Navigator 3.0. You can also view QuickTime VR Panoramas and
  276. Objects inline, after downloading the QuickTime VR component
  277. from Apple. As a web developer, you can control the
  278. QuickTime playback experience through HTML commands. You can
  279. choose to have a movie automatically played for a user, or
  280. present a controller giving users the ability to play, stop,
  281. fastforward, and rewind.
  282.  
  283. The QuickTime plug-in works with existing QuickTime movies,
  284. and with movies prepared to take advantage of the plug-in's
  285. "fast start" feature. The "fast start" feature will present
  286. the first frame of the movie almost immediately and can
  287. begin playing even before the movie has been completely
  288. downloaded. The "fast start" feature saves you time waiting
  289. for the entire movie to download, but otherwise plays just
  290. like regular QuickTime movie.

  292. Netscape Navigator will use the QuickTime plug-in
  293. automatically to play any QuickTime movie while browsing the
  294. internet.  The plug-in can play many kinds of QuickTime
  295. movies (.mov files) including movies with text, MIDI, and
  296. other kinds of data. If you have downloaded and installed
  297. the QuickTime VR component, it will also let you interact
  298. with QuickTime VR Panoramas and Objects.

  316. you have downloaded the plug-in that is most appropriate for

  320. If you would like to view QuickTime VR (Virtual Reality)
  321. Panoramas and Objects using the QuickTime plug-in, you will
  322. need the QTVR library for Windows (QTVRW.QTC). The QTVR 
  323. software is *not* included with Netscape Navigator 3.0, 
  324. but you can download them from either the Apple QuickTime VR
  325. site (http://qtvr.quicktime.apple.com) or the QuickTime
  326. Software page (http://quicktime.apple.com).

  328. On Windows, the QTVRW.QTC file must be in the WINDOWS
  329. directory of your primary drive.

  347. site, you must quit Netscape Navigator and move the software
  348. to the appropriate location (see above).  When you relaunch

  365. FREQUENT QUESTIONS:

  367. Q: Should Windows users download the 16-bit or 32-bit
  368. version of the QuickTime plug-in, or both?
  369. A: First of all, if you are using Netscape Navigator 3.0,
  370. you do not need to download the plug-in, it is bundled with
  371. Navigator 3.0.  But beyond that,  definitely *not* both.
  372. Download the version of the plug-in that matches the version
  373. of Navigator you are running. If you are not sure which
  374. version you are running, look inside the PLUGINS folder in
  375. your NETSCAPE folder. If you see Npnull16.dll, you are using
  376. 16-bit Navigator. If you see Npnull32.dll, you are using
  377. 32-bit Navigator.
  378.  
  379. Q: I am running Windows '95 (or NT). I downloaded the
  380. QuickTime VR software (QTVRW.QTC), installed it in my
  381. WINDOWS directory, and rebooted. But When I run Navigator
  382. with the QuickTime VR component, I can't view QuickTime VR
  383. Panoramas and Objects.
  384. A: Currently there is only a 16-bit version of the QuickTime
  385. VR software for Windows. The 16-bit version will not work
  386. with a 32-bit (Windows '95/NT) version of Netscape
  387. Navigator. If you would like to use the QuickTime VR
  388. software with Navigator, you will have to download and use
  389. the Windows 3.1 version of Netscape Navigator. When a 32-bit
  390. version of the QuickTime VR component is available for
  391. Windows '95/NT users, we will post it on the QuickTime web
  392. site (http://quicktime.apple.com).

  394. Q: I downloaded Netscape Navigator 3.0, but the QuickTime
  395. plug-in doesn't seem to be working.
  396. A: Navigator 3.0 lets you pick plug-ins for different types
  397. of content, just like you pick helper apps. You may need to
  398. pick the QuickTime plug-in in the Navigator
  399. "Options/Helpers" dialog to make the QuickTime plug-in work.

  401. Q: I am using a Web browser other than Netscape Navigator
  402. 3.0 and I am experiencing problems with the QuickTime
  403. plug-in.
  404. A: Currently, the QuickTime plug-in only supports Netscape
  405. Navigator 3.0 or later.

  407. Q. I design web pages and would like to know more about
  408. movie controls and other capabilities of the QuickTime
  409. plug-in. Where should I look for documentation?
  410. A: The QuickTime plug-in provides a number of new and
  411. exciting options for internet content providers. Please

  415. Q: I am browsing a page with a QuickTime VR panorama and
  416. expect that I can use the option and control (shift and
  417. control on Windows) to zoom in/zoom out of the movie.
  418. Likewise, with a regular QuickTime movie, I expect the arrow
  419. keys to step through the movie a frame at a time. But the
  420. movies don't seem to respond to keystrokes.
  421. A: You need to select the QuickTime VR panaroma or QuickTime
  422. movie first by clicking on it. On Windows, the arrow keys do
  423. not work.

  425. Q. I'd like to save some of the movies to my hard drive. How
  426. do I do this?
  427. A. You can click on the movie and press Command-S on the
  428. Macintosh or Control-S on the PC to bring up a "save"
  429. dialogue. However, this will not work for QuickTime VR
  430. movies. To save QuickTime VR movies go to the Navigator 3.0
  431. menu, select Options/General Preferences/Helpers, then
  432. select QuickTime from the list and choose Edit. At this
  433. point, you'll be presented with a few options, all will work
  434. for saving QuickTime VR files.
