Review: Lasers and Men - Falcon Only
====================================
Do you know a game called Wolfenstein on the PC? Well, if
you do, this game for the Falcon has been based on it.
Lasers and Men is a 3D maze game where the idea is to get to
the exit of each maze or level.
The graphics are very good - they've been texture-mapped and
have taken advantage of the Falcon's extra colours and
processing power. Unfortunately, your enemies in the game
(which must be killed before they kill you) are only cubes
of colour, but this is due to the original sprite files
being destroyed by one of those nasty little boot sector
programs - a virus.
Lasers and Men is controlled by the mouse and because it
uses the Falcon's DSP chip (Digital Signal Processor chip),
the movement is very quick and responsive. However, it would
have been nice to use a joystick as well.
Overall, Lasers and Men is a good, round game. The graphics
are brilliant, except for the exclusion of enemy sprites,
and the game is very addictive indeed. To be honest, I'd
like to see this develop into a Midi Maze II type game with
the option to link STs together and play with opponents, or
to play against the computer with all the power-ups. I think
it would be good. I'd buy this now if you've got the money
(which you should have). It's a very nice game.
