  1. Brief documentation for TOS2GEM dated 19.01.1995

  4.  1. What is TOS2GEM?
  5.  -------------------
  6.  TOS2GEM is an Auto folder program which GEM applications can access in 
  7.  a flexible way to display the output from TOS and TTP programs as VDI 
  8.  text in a Console window.
  9.  TOS2GEM makes the ideal Console window for use with shells or alternative 
  10.  desktops and saves the programmer some effort!
  11.  
  12.  TOS2GEM was principally designed for use under Single TOS and although it 
  13.  runs fine under Geneva, MagiC and MultiTOS its use is limited as these 
  14.  each include their own Console window.
  15.  
  16.  TOS2GEM features at a glance:
  17.  -Directs the output of TOS/TTP type programs into a GEM window.
  18.  -Simulates TOS screens of various sizes (not just boring 80x25) in any 
  19.   size window.
  20.  -Works with all monospaced fonts irrespective of size.
  21.  -Optional scroll buffer allows output to be reviewed.
  22.  -Offers almost complete VT52 emulation (with the exception of colour 
  23.   sequences)

  26.  2. Installation
  27.  ---------------
  28.  Copy TOS2GEM.PRG to the Auto folder of your boot partition. TOS2GEM 
  29.  installs a Cookie which can be used to control some of TOS2GEMs 
  30.  functions. TOS2GEM.PRG can also be run from the desktop.

  34.  3. What is T2GRESET.PRG?
  35.  ------------------------
  36.  Programs must reserve TOS2GEM for themselves; until released other 
  37.  programs cannot make use of TOS2GEM.
  38.  If a program which had reserved TOS2GEM crashes or is exited without 
  39.  releasing TOS2GEM you can use T2GRERSET.PRG from the desktop to release 
  40.  TOS2GEM. It's not a good idea to run T2GRESET.PRG if an application 
  41.  which has reserved TOS2GEM is still running as this inevitably causes 
  42.  serious complications.

  44.  4. T2G_BSP.PRG and PRIMZAHL.TOS
  45.  -------------------------------
  46.  These utilities are part of the main TOS2GEM distribution but not 
  47.  included in the Atari World Reader disk distribution.

  49.  5. Where is the programmers documentation?
  50.  ------------------------------------------
  51.  It's still under development at the moment. The final release will be in 
  52.  ST-Guide hypertext format and include detailed information explaining how 
  53.  to call TOS2GEM from your own programs. The current incomplete German 
  54.  documentation is available on request to anyone that wants them on the 
  55.  understanding they are for your own personal use.

  59.  Although TOS2GEM and the associated utilities have been carefully 
  60.  programmed and thoroughly tested I cannot guarentee no bugs remain. I, 
  61.  Thomas Binder, do not accept any liability or responsibility for any 
  62.  direct or indirect damage that may arise, either financial, material 
  63.  or any other kind from either the use or misuse of TOS2GEM and its 
  64.  associated applications, utilities and documentation. All trademarks 
  65.  mentioned in the TOS2GEM documentation are acknowledged and 
  66.  recognised.

  69.  ---------------
  70.  With my permission the mini version version of TOS2GEM including this 
  71.  limited documentation has been translated for the Atari World Thing 
  72.  Reader disk by Joe Connor and is NOT for general distribution.

  74.  The complete archive is Freeware and available from all good PD 
  75.  libraries and BBSs. The complete package includes:
  76.  
  77.  TOS2GEM.PRG, T2GRESET.PRG, TOS2GEM.H, TOS2GEM.TXT, T2G_BSP.PRG, 
  78.  PRIMZAHL.TOS and, when completed, TOS2GEM.HYP and TOS2GEM.REF.

  110.  Currently two main programs use TOS2GEM as Console windows:
