¯THE COMPUTER SLAGS FILE.~
This is to be a straightforward file in which the customers to
this disk are able to send in mindless slags degrading other
computers..
Marvel! At the language used to convey 'My computer is
better than yours' debate.....
Wonder! At where people get their information from.....
Rapture! At the death threats given by people loyal to
their computers..
I (68K) have had a computer slag board running for about 9 months
on my BBS in the University Of Greenwich.. At the time of writing,
the file for the 9 months in approaching 500K. I hope that this
file will be just as used (hopefuly more!). Feel free to curse,
swear, insult, cuss and threaten people in this file, 'cos thats
what this is all about..
It's all in fun really.. Isn't it? -¯68K~

This file will be 'chopped' every so often, so that you havn't got
to wade through masses of text to get to the new bits.. - 68K(Steve)

So let's start the ball rolling....
¯-------------------------------------------------------------------~
What gets me about Amiga owners is that they slag off the Falcon
because "It's just like an ST", and then boast about the fact that
the A1200 is fully backwards-compatable... Seems a bit hypocritical
to me.....
The A1200 being compatable with the A500/600 limits the machine
as a whole, and will mean it'll be dead very quickly.... Ha ha!
The Falcon and the ST/STE/TT range are ¯completely~ different computers,
with different uses and aimed at different markets.. It just so happens
that the Falcon can use a large amount of ST/TT software as it can run
GEM programs.... I think that is a good idea, as much of the
serious software is written for GEM (to ensure compatability with the
ST/TT/STE).
Okay, that'll do fer now!!! ¯;)~
- 68 'I think the A1200 is crap' K -
¯-------------------------------------------------------------------~
Well for starters the Falcon looks exactly like an ST, except for a
slightly different shade of colour. The A1200 is bigger than an A600
(with the extra numeric keypad), and looks a lot sexier too!
Compatibility with the A500/A600 just means it can run almost all
software written for the earlier Amiga's. Anything written to take
advantage of the A1200s amazing new AGA graphic chip set, certainly won't
work on the earlier Amiga's. Most existing A500/A600 software will even
run faster when run on an A1200, so the compatibility certainly doesn't
hamper the A1200 at all.
With 2Mb as standard there is loads of memory, more than the Falcon I
think you'll find. With plenty of expansion possibilties. These now
include the new CD drive to be released for the A1200, you haven't got
one of them coming out for the Falcon yet have you ?!
Who needs GEM when you have the indispensable AmigaDOS with Workbench 3 ?
A lot lot friendler and better looking than GEM anyday.
The only thing in the Falcons favour (at the moment) is the DSP chip, and
when Commodore finally get round to unveiling their new DSP chip the
Falcon won't even have that advantage!
Answer that if you can!

P.S Falcons are a pile of bird droppings

Hah! Is that the best you can come up with? The Falcon can use the CD-ROM
drives that have been developed for the PC's. With Photo-CD being
developed first on the Falcon. These drives are about 150 quid! How much
are they for the Amiga then? The DSP that Commodore are making is an EXTRA
for the A1200.. That means the price will go up when they eventually
surface (which is not meant to be for quite a time yet!). Also, when the
chip comes out, then the Falcon should have been firmly established in
industry, rendering the A1200 useless....
GEM on the Falcon is a lot better than the ST version. Fully multi-
tasking and with a 256 colour desktop, it's an improvment on the
Original.. And its in ROM!-None of that loading from disk/hard drive
nonsense.....The memory configuration of the base level Falcon in the USA
was 1MB, as I am sure you know, but it is rumoured that because of software
houses complaining that 1MB isn't enough, the Falcons destined for the UK
will be 2 MB minimum.....
Just to get you upset, there is meant to be a Falcon 060 coming out
in the next year or so (I think) - Hah!
Dear me, you'll have to try better than that!

P.S. Commodore A1200? Bollocks more like!

Right then Shadow........
The Falcon base model has only one meg of memory, but after
protest from existing Falcon owners, the first Falcons to be realeased in
England will have 2 megs as standard..........
Also.....
You can buy a CD-rom drive for the Falcon for 150
greenbacks NOW. Atari have discovered that they can get 85 meg hard drives
for the same price that they buy the 65meg drives, so that is going to be
the lowest capacity drive that the Falcon will be sold with.
Also, the Falcon has a Codec chip, this provides N-peg and J-peg
compression, and after using the Falcon, I can say that the
compression/decompression is instant! (how long does it take to load a
jpeg piccie Shadow?)
I also heard in the computer room (101) from certain person who
has an A1200 that his raytracing is done twice as quick on the 1200 then
his old Amiga 500, The Falcon is at least 4 times as quick then the ST,
and that is just the 030 working, it gets faster with the Blitter and the
DSP Running.
As compatibility goes, the Falcon was not designed to be compatible
with the ST, but as both machines run GEM, then certain programs will run,
and with a patch, 50-70% of all programs run....
Hahahahahahahaha

Don't you think it's strange the way the ST's demo scene is about 3 years
behind the Amiga's. Hmmmm, wonder if that says anything about it's status
as an up to date home computer?

I'm an Amiga owner, and, whilst I think Commodore have made their
mistakes, in the main, the Amiga has always been a strong, competitive and
powerful machine. The A1200 is selling very well, as is the A4000. These
machines are setting new standards and are leaving the older 16-bit
machines behind. It's competition comes mainly from the extremely
successful PC clones, and I wouldn't say that the PC is rubbish and a
dinosaur (sorry, Jurassic Park gets in everywhere), it is a very good
business machine. If you want to do accounts, word processing, databasing,
cheap DTP or run a business then the PC is your machine. If you want an
affordable machine that can allow you to experiment with absolutely
anything a home computer can do, get an Amiga. They're flexible in that
they can be put to lots of uses, and yet they have the power to do all
these things to a respectable level without having to spend vast amounts of
cash on expansions.
Other competition. The Falcon? I ask you. Yes it's a great machine with a
lot going for it. Unfortunately it's too expensive to challenge the A1200,
plus I've only ever seen one, in a large computer store in London. You just
can't get the things anywhere else. I've not seen any software for it
either. No adverts, no machines, no knowledge of the thing in Dixons (who
despite having no clue as to what the A1200 can do, they at least do know
what one is).
So what do you think of that Steve and Paul (and anyone else)?
