[ Legal Bits ]
This program is (c) KelAUG Software 1997 and, while being placed in the
Public Domain, is actually POSTCARDWARE, as is most of KelAUG Software's
programs. The author retains FULL copyright in the program and documentation,
which MUST be distributed together in their COMPLETE form.
This program and associated files can be placed on compilation disks etc,
but the author would like to know first please! (You won't be stopped from
doing so, but it's nice to know what's happening to your programs!)
The author and KelAUG Software accept no responsibilty for any damage
caused to your hardware or software caused as a result of running this
program. There's no reason why the program should damage your hardware or
disks anyway, so if you screw it up, it MUST be your fault!
[ What's it all about then? ]
Auto Zax is a program that lets you load in a chip music file, listen to
it, then if you like it, you can save the music as an executable .PRG
program file. By doing this, you create a program that can be run from the
desktop, and the chip music will then play merrily away in the background
while you get on with whatever.
The executable music file can also be placed in the AUTO folder so that
the music plays on boot-up.
[ Limitations ]
At the moment, Auto Zax v1.0 will only save MAD MAX chip music files as an
executable program file, but will load and play most types of chip music.
The chip music files must have a file extender of .MUS
When an executable music file is saved to disk from Auto Zax, the file
length is a constant 21084 bytes long. This has to do with how I've done the
program. I recommend that you pack the file down using any of the packers
currently available in the Public Domain, such as Speedpacker 3, Pack Ice
2.4 or Atomik 3.5. This will take the size down to around 30-40% of the
original length.
[ Credits ]
Thanks must go out to Paul Davis of FOLDERS PUBLIC DOMAIN LIBRARY, who gave
me the idea for this program in his latest catalogue.

[ Registering your copy ]
Auto Zax is POSTCARDWARE. This means that while there are no restrictions
on its use, you should really send me a postcard or photo, or even just a
letter, and let me know what you think of it. (I'd really like a photo of
whoever's registering, though! It makes ST users less anonymous, doesn't it.)
On registering, if you send a disk, then you will get the latest version
of Auto Zax. Future updates will include more chip music types that can be
saved as executable files.
