Several other members are already offering the pick of their PD collections to
any new members who need them, so I thought I'd do the same.
The arrangement is that any KelAUG member who wants a copy/ies of any disc/s
from my list should send me enough discs to cover the request, plus sufficient
postage for their return. Send your discs in a padded Jiffy bag and I'll then
return it to you with your choice of PD discs.
I've haven't updated the list for some time now, so there will *lots* more discs
added to it in time for KelAUG 11. (Mostly graphics progs, WP and text editors,
utilities, etc.)

I'm afraid I'll have to put a few limits on the service so that it won't take up
too much of my time.
1> this service is for New Members / Newcomers only. Any other members who are
interested are welcome to contact me and set up a swap, as per normal.
2> please don't ask for more than 4 discs at any one time.
3> the requests will be returned on the discs you send (dodgy discs = dodgy
copies), and with the stamps you send (not enough stamps = an Insufficient
Postage charge from Postman Pat).
4> be aware that some PD will only run on certain machines or set-ups (mono,
colour, STe-only, etc), and that there just ain't enough hours in the day to
sort out PD problems *and* put the mag together... Any problems should be
described in detail and sent in to the Q&A Column.
5> please read the list carefully: some programmes take up more than one disc,
and others are on extended format discs that your drive might not be able
to handle.

A disc weighs 20 grammes (on average), and a Jiffy bag adds another 10 - 20
grammes to the total, so....

As far as I know everything listed here is Public Domain. Please let me know if

UTILITIES, etc

XCONTROL - Atari's Extended Control Panel for the ST and TT. It loads
its modules as needed and can be configured. Comes wth basic set of
configuration / desktop modules. (Single-sided disc.)
CONNECTIONS v1.0 - a nice, mono only, PD HyperText programme that
lets you link clips, screens, sounds and animations to any part of the
'parent' screen. Comes with example programmes and a compressed, full-
blown application showing pictures and details of missing children in
the USA. Needs 1mb RAM.
SUPERBOOT V8.1 - a good boot-up prog that runs from the Auto folder
and lets you chose which predefined set-up you want for that session.
You can select which Auto progs to load, turn Accessories on and off,
choose a pic/pix to be displayed, and even select some of your own
music or sound effects to go with it. (8.1 = latest/last version.)
HP DESKJET DRIVERS AND UTILITIES. Utilities = DESKJET, DJHC_18X,
DJSTUFF, GEMSYS, SCR_DUMP and HP_DRVR. Also includes printer drivers
for Script v1, ST Writer, First Word Plus, Megapaint v2.31, Adimens
database v3.0, Publishing Partner, and That's Write.
DESKJET SUPPORT DISC - Booker (make booklets), DJBoth16 (print both
sides od paper), HP2XX (ASCII - PCL convertor?), HP_Print (print
queuer and spooler), HP.acc, P6_TO_DJ (sends P6 printer output to a
Deskjet), JetEmuII (examine PCL code), Miniprint, Outburst (print
accelerator for use with Pagestream and Deskjet only - demo version),
plus drivers for Harlekin, PRHP12 (command line Deskjet configurer).
DESKJET UTILITIES + PD - DESK 500, DJCDUMP 2, DJSCRFIX (an accessory
that enables you to initialise the deskjet from within any programme
- essential for when you've forgotten to turn it on at boot- up. Also
fixes the 'scroll bar bug' in TOS 1.6 +), HPCOPY, JETLOPE v1.3 (an
address database written specifically for the colour Deskjets),
JETLOPE v2.2 (ditto for the DJ 500), TOS 2, REDIRECT (points TOS
towards Accs or RSCs in a folder), RUFTRADE (fully-working demo
version of an excellent, and context-sensitive German to English
translator), & DIR_9999 (a good utility for saving disc directories -
many options selectable. Very useful for cataloguing clip art discs!)
MOZART'S DICE - Based on a 'random musical structure' game used by
Mozart, Mozart's Dice creates multi-part music from a series of on-
screen dice rolls. Can output to a MIDI instrument. A marvellous
programme that generates a fresh piece of music every time you run it.

IDEALIST v3.5 : THE prog for formatting and printing and printing
ASCII text, such as PD manuals and instruction files. Squeezes long
texts into the least number of pages. Can print in multiple columns,
with small text, and outputs to laser, deskjet or dot-matrix
printers. This is the complete solution to all your long text file
problems! Very comprehensive.
THE PREMIUM PACKERS COLLECTION v1.3b - a very neat GFA shell by Barry
Munro that can call up: Atomik, Automation 5.01, BA Pack, Bytekiller
2, Dekpak 1.3, Exe Pak, Fire Pack 2, Gollum 1.81e, Ivory Dragon, Jam
Pack 4, LSD 1.2, Multi Packer, New Pack, Pack Ice 2.4, PFX 1.8, Sentry
2.05, Speed Pack 2, Thunder 2, plus Mega Depack 2, Multi Depack and
Naughty 2.2. The shell can also run other programmes from inside
itself, and return to the shell on exit. The Revenge Doc Displayer,
Fastcopy 3 and disc utilities can also be run from the shell.
PD/SHAREWARE UTILITIES & APPLICATIONS: ARTWEIRD - garbles long text
files in various creative ways; VECSHOW - display vector graphics;
TEMP2000 - GIF screens from a Falcon game?; ST ZIP v2.4 -
archiving/packing prog; EVEREST v3.2D - a good text editor; METAVIEW -
view vector pix; WINLUPE - a cursor that acts as a magnifying glass;
FALCONSX.
ANCIENT ART OF ASCII by David Becker - mono only - coverts a Degas
PI3 pic to ASCII Art, ie a pic made up of ASCII characters - great
fun! ASC2GIF - does the same, but from a Gif file, and was written as
a way of previewing Gifs on text-only screens. ST GUIDE - an
untranslated German Hypertext programme. OCR12 - a German OCR (Optical
Character Recognition = text scanning) prog.
PD - TOMS disczine creator, Extendable Screen Saver, File Cat (for
hard drives), Link ST-PC (share PC drives with an ST), Grepit (Unix
file reader?), Boot 50 Hz, Multishen, PD BASIC compiler.
LET 'EM FLY v1.18 - a lovely Auto prog that improves the look,
function and speed of alert boxes. Fully configurable and very
reliable. ASTRO 22 - some kind of astrology prog? WHAT IS? v6.3 - an
Acc that identifies something like 60+ file types, even if their
extensions are wrong. Useful when you're faced with a file that you've
never 'eard of before. All PD.
GEMbench v4.03 - the best benchmark prog available - test your ST
against a TT with accellerator board, sob! ST GUIDE v1.4e - German
hypertext prog (fully translated). Most German shareware and PD progs
have their help files in ST Guide's format: this is an essential
utility for anyone using recent PD and Shareware.
DC Utilities - a collection of small utilities that might just solve
one of your probs, or maybe not: some of them are pretty pointless...
GENETICS - a small prog that shows how genes change. ISBN CHECKER -
checks an International Standard Book Number to see if it's valid. LET
'EM FLY - see above. POSTCODE - tells you the town of the Postcode.
RUNECASTER - a lovely prog that casts the runes for you and interprets
the results. Divination made easy. (Mono and med res versions.)
HTML - an off-line reader for World Wide Web files (HTM). Could be

astronomer's or satellite freak's position calculator?; D2D - yet
another utility to calculate the day of the week for any historical

for streaming files from a hard drive to floppies. Chooses which will
fill the disc, and allows you to split (and reassemble) large files
over 2 floppies; FLEXIARC v3.1a - yet another ARChiving shell, yawn;

MONO GAMES - FLOPPYSHOP DISC GAM.5762M = TRAX v1.0; TAROT v2.1 - a
French card game played with an early card deck; COLUMNS - a Tetris
variant with lots of options; CREATURE POWER - a race/strategy game of
some sort; CRYSTAL CAVE v2.2.
MONO GAMES - FLOPPYSHOP DISC GAM.5704M = AKS - a beautifully
programmed German game with a genuine sense of humour for once. It's a
sliding block game You have to move the brewery's barrels into the
storage area without boxing them in or walking into walls. If you do,
then an angry boss shouts at you and eventually gives you the sack.
Warning: this is an addictive strategy game!; BALLER - a nice version
of the German 'destroy the enemy's castle with your cannons before he
does the same to you' game; BANG v1.10 - a good Minesweeper clone that
comes with mono and colour versions; BUBBLE - steer each bubble
through a sharp-edged cave with blasts of air; CADENZA CRIBBAGE v1.9;
GEM CADENZA - a Draughts game that looks as if it's been ported from
an old mainframe/teleprinter set-up. A Hacker's game if I ever saw
one..
DISCMAGS

STEN 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 14B, 15 - the ST
Enthusiasts' Newsletter - DTP, graphics articles, programming
tutorials, upgrades, hardware projects, humour, rants and raves, and a
satirical take on the ST scene. Runs in colour and mono, and in its
own custom-written shell. It ran for 15 issues over 3 years and had a
reputation as a good, serious, bi-monthly read. Las issue = Nov '93.
MAGGIE 10, 21, 22, 23, 24 & 25 (march '98), plus EEZY PC compilation.
An excellent discine! Covers the demo and games-coding scenes, plus
news and reviews, humour, and lots, lots more - recommended!
UNDERCOVER 11 (March '98) - German demo scene mag - in English.
ATARIPHILE 3, 5. A very good-looking HTML-based zine for the serious
end of the Atari world. Now sadly R.I.P.
ATARI TIMES 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 (July '98) on-line HTML mag that
needs CAB or HTML Browser (see the Utilities section) to be read
INTERACTION #1 - a contemporary art zine that was just this side of
pretentiousness. It only ran for one issue, and I put together the ST
version of it with the TOMS shell. Includes computer art, some
original Gifs, and the Speed of Light v3.1 pic viewer.
ST NEWS 9.3, 9.4.
ST+ # 16, 17 - slick shell, slow as hell; shame about the content...
KelAUG - 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 & 10. That name rings a bell...

CALAMUS SUPPORT DISC 1 - utilities, fonts, example layouts, etc.
CALAMUS SUPPORT DISC 2 - Calquote (corrects problems with single and
double quotes, hyphens, etc); Laser Labels, Xmas tags and Filofax
files (CDK), O-Line graphics and hints; PKS Write v0.99; Fast Print;
Canon BJ10e driver; Deskjet driver patch; Font converter (to use any
Calamus font with the demo version of the prog); Calamus font
description (techie stuff!); and CAL__TEX (converts Calamus fonts for
use in TeX?); plus QED - text editor.
MARCEL v2.3 - word processor that can load/save RTF files from the PC
(Rich Text Files - ASCII files that hold formatting and style data.)
EDITH PROFESSIONAL v1.221P - A very nice text editor / word processor.
Was limited Shareware, is now Freeware.
7-UP WORD PROCESSOR / TEXT EDITOR - looks competent, but it uses GDOS
and is more of a text editor than a proper WP.
TEXT FILES

THE JARGON FILE 2 - a double-disc dictionary of hacker slang and
usage.(And that's 'hacker' in the original sense of the word; a
dedicated enthusiast rather than a snotty kid breaking and entering.)
Enquire within for a superb overview of the Heroic Age of computer
culture. This is a PD text version (over 1 Mb of text) of an ongoing
mainframe project at Stanford University in the US, recently
published in hardback at £20. Highly recommended! * 2 DISCS *
PHRACK - Amerikan phreaking (telephone hacking) discmags.
COOKBOOKS - two long files of Chinese / Eastern and American recipes.
Excellent!

MUSHROOM GRAPHICS UTILITIES - Convert to IMG (from Neo, Degas, etc),
Degas Save (Screen grabber), IMG_SNAP.ACC, DeLuxe Slideshow II (all
resolutions and most pic types), PicSwitch v0.7 (converts from/to
almost any format), IMG_Show (an IMG slideshow prog, hurrah!), Mono
Emulator v5.O (STE compatible), IMG Quick View (scroll through
larger-than-screen size IMG pix), IMGPRINT, WIPES (hi- res slideshow
with excellent fades and merges between pix. Inc GFA source).All
files uncompressed.
MVG v1.30: MultiViewer (Graphica) v1.30 - American Shareware mono
graphics and clip art manipulator. Has excellent options for
dithering, manual/auto resizing of larger than screen-size IMG pix,
blocks, brighter/darker, pic conversion, and lots more.
PAD v2.4 - excellent German vector programme with bezier curves.
Accepts many formats, including GEM3.
JCVIEW - an excellent prog for working on mono clip art. Lettering,
boxes, lines, etc can be added, pix trimmed to size and resized, etc.
A very well presented programme. Mono only.
FRACSURF 2 - amazing P.D prog that generates fractal landscapes - can
change viewpoint,lighting, sea-level, etc. You can save screens as
Degas pix and create animations where the camera seems to fly over the
landscape.
MANDLEBROT SLIDESHOW - a good set of Mandlebrot fractals.
KOSMIC 4 - - colour art utility for generating amazingly psychedelic
pictures. (Ideal for producing backgrounds for title screens, etc.)
Was Shareware, now Freeware. By the multi-talented David Henniker.
* comes on 2 discs *
ARCHIVARIUS v2.2 - a mono-only utility for cataloguing and/or viewing
clip art discs. This is *so* good! The only drawback is that it only
recognises the German PAC picture format, but you can save out a text
file of pic filenames from a disc, and add individual comments to
them.
GEMVIEW v3.06 - a utility for converting from just about ANY computer
graphics format (on any machine) to another. Colour or mono display.
GEMview can be used to convert an entire folder of pix from one format
to another, but the best part is that any operations it performs do
*not* alter the picture's colour depth. Thus, you can (for example)
display and alter a Truecolour Gif on a mono monitor and save the
altered file as a Truecolour Tif, Gif or whatever.
KADINSKY v1.51 - one fine German art programme! Shareware. Bitmap +
vector. (2 discs)
CRACK ART - German, low res only, one of the best colour art progs
I've ever seen.
FRACTAL PROGS - FRACTAL LANDSCAPER and MANDLEBROT ADVENTURER.
MORE FRACTAL PROGS - mostly colour - MANIBROT v1.03, FRACTAL,
FRACTAL2, FRACTBIN, FRACT_M, FRAC_ANI, GFA MANDEL, MANDEL_F, MANDSHOW.
GRAPHIX EFFECTS and FRACTAL DISC: ST GRAPHIC (mono), MANDY (colour),
JP_ART (colour), MANDEL (colour), TRUCHET (mono), FRACTBIN (mono),
MANDLBOX (colour), HENDY MANDY (colour), MONOWORM (mono), SURFAC
(mono). These are all small progs that show off different graphical
effects. Recommended!
FRACSURF 2 - creates fractal landscapes that can be animated or viewed
from different angles. Low res or mono. Includes my own demo.
MANDLEBROT SLIDESHOW
HPCHROME v2.2 & BJCHROME - Shareware from Martyn Dryden for producing
colour prints on a mono HP Deskjet or Canon Bubblejet printer. Will
need 4 cartridges (cyan, yellow, magenta and black).
CHEZ PEINTRE - a very tastefully done slideshow showing a Victorian
woman undressing on a bed. (Was this 'What The Butler Saw'?)
PIC SWITCH v1.01 - a later, and 'thank you' version of the one-time
definitive ST pic convertor. This is so different to the original that
it's best seen as another programme. It runs in mono or colour and
accepts virtually any picture format, from any machine (Mac, PC,
Amiga, etc). Pix can then be converted to mono and saved as an IMG
file (but only if running in mono - no save option in colour), or
dithered in many different ways and printed. Very, very good, and
produces superb printouts.
More GERMAN FRACTALS = Chaos Calc v 2.5, Mandlebrot Power (both run in
mono).
PHOTOCHROME 4 by Douglas Little - a 'software 24-bit graphics board
for the STE'. This beautiful PD prog can display Targa (24-Bit
Truecolour screens (16 million colours!), GIF files and VidiChrome
digitised 'RGB' colour separations (4096 colours), and save them in
Spectrum 512/4096, PCS-ST/PCS-STE, Super HAM and STE PhotoChrome
formats. Uses interlacing and barely noticeable flicker to give the
impression of far more colours than the STe should ever be able to
display. A marvellous, marvellous prog!
GIF PIX - colour = Apollo, Apollo 9, Astronomer, Challenger, Domain,
Earth, Earth1, Earth2, EarthR, Fashion, Fisheye, Flamingo, Fractal,
Hugo14, Hugo18, Leaves, Rainbow, Vase, Waves. A mixture of Space pix
and rather stylish ray-traced (?) images.
FERRET GIF - very large (650K) greyscale pic of the American black-
footed ferret. Scanned from a colour illustration and converted to
greyscale on the PC
GERMAN PD/SHAREWARE: GEMFRAC v2.0 - excellent mono (+colour?) fractal
generator. LIFE M90 - a very good mono version of Conway's 'Life'
simulation, with large screen and many readymade objects/patterns.
SPEED OF LIGHT v3.8 - a superb GIF and JPEG viewer (+ more!) that's
American shareware. This is an amazing piece of work that uses inter-
lacing to mimic 256 colours. The display isn't as good as Photochrome,
but you can filter the pix, save them in different formats, alter the
RGB contrast, resize them, etc, etc. This version runs in colour or
mono.
FLI/FLC PLAYER - a beautiful piece of PD that allows you to view
animation files in the PC Autodesk Animator format in any res on the
ST or Falcon. (Animations run in a desktop window.) Superb!
EC PAINT - simple but good mono art prog that can load and use Calamus
fonts in its pix.
MGIF v5.01 - French prog that loads, converts, displays and prints
just about any picture file, including JPG. Allows you to alter the
contrast and brightness, apply lots of filters, and has a beautiful
option to give any colour or greyscale pic the look of an oil
painting. Plus lots more. (See review in KelAUG 10) Highly
recommended!
BMV4 - Bitmap View v4 - a colour-only prog from France. A complex and
potentially rewarding prog that I can't use because it only runs in
colour... Needs the Parx Modules from the next disc. DIABLO - runs in
colour or mono and allows you to view colour pix, convert them, or
make thumbnail versions of a folder full of pix onto the one page.
Text can be attached to the pix, but the Shareware restriction means
that any manipulated pix will have a discreet diamond pattern across
them. I'd register for this if I had the money... I met the French
guys who coded it (and the Parx M&E modules) at the London Atari Show
this year, and they're really nice people - just like you and me -
rather than a faceless software house.
PARX M&E MODULES - a set of auto-extracting compressed modules from
the buzzing French graphix scene. Includes scanner drivers, filters,
import/export modules, conversions, etc, etc, etc. Professionally
programmed, and can only be used with programmes that support these
modules - see disc above and below.
PICCOLO v1.0 - a French picture viewing / converting prog that uses
the Parx M&E modules listed above. Comes with a small set of the
modules, but will work better with the full set. Runs in mono and
colour.
