~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Welcome to KelAUG Issue 4 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Bwa-ha-ha-ha-ha! I've finished it! I've damn well finished it!! And what a
palaver it was, too! All the files on all the disks, no second drive and only
one meg of memory - I'll never learn! And to top it all off, I had to write a
new shell too! Bwa-ha-ha- [ NURSE! THE SCREENS! ]
Yup, it's here at last. At the time of writing this, I have the luxury of having
finished an issue of a diskmag A WEEK BEFORE THE DEADLINE! Is this some kind of
record? I've only had contributions from a dozen people, and I only have 100K of
disk space left for any intros that are sent in in the next couple of days. So
if anyone sends any articles in and they're not on here, don't despair - I'll
send them off to Dave for the next issue, and give him a head-start!
Trials And Tribulations
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It's a funny old game, editing a diskmag. There I was for the first few weeks
after we announced that myself and Dave were taking it over, panicking because
no-one had sent me any disks through. Then I get all of them in the space of
about ten days, and it's panic stations again as I sift through them all,
thinking I'll never have the time to do it! But I'm dead chuffed that people
have sent in so much text for articles - there's actually 948K+ of data on this
disk - I just hope that you keep the same level of commitment for the next
issue!
Say Hello, Wave Goodbye
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It's that time when we say "ta-ta" to a club member, sniff into our hankies,
then get back to reading the disk. Mark Parry [Paz] has decided to call it a day
with the club, citing too much involvement on the Atari scene as the reason.
Apparantly he's cutting back on the number of things he sends out to give him a
bit of spare time [a problem that a few members have mentioned along the way].
So altogether now...
TA-TA MARK, TA-TA!
But lookee here, new members all the time. I don't know what their level of
involvement will be though. They are...
Michael Thompson (yes, he's my brother!)
Robert Francis (a genuine half-megger!)
with at least another two people asking about membership. So it's one out, four
in.
New Shell
~~~~~~~~~
There's a new shell being used this issue (what a surprise if you're reading
this from it!). All the usual features are in it, including:
> Mouse-controlled HELP screen
> Printer configuration panel
> Annoying chip music!
> 50/60 Hz sync rate
> Screen saver [active after about 2-3 minutes]
> Text printing [this time it works, promise!]
Please remember that the menu selection and the text viewer are all keyborad
controlled.
For all the mono users [or people who just don't like the shell - peasants!]
I've put the Revenge Doc Displayer 3 on the disk for them, though why any colour
users would want to use that instead of this I just don't know.
Two Disks, Or Not Two Disks?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm unsure about this one. Should we have two disks each issue or not? Dave and
myself have talked it over, along with Bob, and we feel that this is the best
solution...
DISK ONE - for general PD release
has a diskmag style
contains all the help and tutorials from members
DISK TWO - for members only
mainly members lists
some "extra" software
Submissions
~~~~~~~~~~~
You can submit anything you like, although it may be censored for the usual
reasons, although only club members may advertise. So if you want something, or
you've got something to flog off, then why not simply join. It's free after all.
All we expect from you is [a] not to piss off other club members, [b] give other
club members the benefit of your experience if you think you can help out and
[c] NOT TO ADVERTISE ANY PIRATED, PORNOGRAPHIC OR OTHERWISE ILLEGAL SOFTWARE!!!!
I really mean it about that last one. I've had to delete a few files already for
those reasons. We know what to watch out for!
Folders PDL - A Blatant Plug
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As some of you will have heard, Paul Davis has recently bought out Asciilum PDL
lock, stock and barrel, with the intention of keeping it running. He changed the
name to FOLDERS PDL, and is now ready to get up and running. Asciilum had a good
reputation [even though he ripped me off towards the end, but I forgive him cos
he was ready to quit!], and Paul intends to carry on in the good work started by
Gary. FOLDERS PDL is also the "official" PD library of the Kelstar Atari User
Group, so all you members out there, give him a ring for all your PD [and don't
forget to tell him that you saw the address here!]
