MOUTHTRAP REVIEW (GAMES GALORE)
One of the four games of the GAMES GALORE package is called MOUTHTRAP.
This is an overhead-view run-around-the-level-collecting-food type of
game, and I rather like it.
You are apparently the biggest mouth in the land, and have been let
loose in one of the largest food stores on earth.
There are 100 levels, consisting of 16x16 blocs. There are icy patches
which you skid over, skull-and-crossbones to die on, germs and bacteria
to avoid, and plenty of food and bonuses to collect. Once all of the
food has been collected, the level is finished, and you proceed to the
next.
The bonuses and power-ups consist of score doublers, germ freezers,
level skips, toothbrushes, joysticks, and score boosts. Each level has
a different background, which helps to add to the variety of the levels
and expels any deja-vu feelings.
At the top of the screen are five apples with one of the letters EXTRA
one each one. There is also a little pointer which moves and indicates
each apple in turn. Every now and then, an apple appears, and if you
eat it, the apple which the pointer was over flies around the screen,
and if you eat it, you 'gain' that letter. Once all of the letters have
been caught, you get an extra life. This is a nice and original idea.
There is an option at the beginning of the game to access a certain
level between 1 and 26, but the usual problem arises when you get to a
very high level and lose all of your lives; start all over again!
Overall, I found this game to be quite enjoyable, and makes a nice
change from your usual blast or adventure. There is one small problem,
though. The game was compiled with the old version of the compiler, and
so it is not STE compatable! On the other hand, the source code is also
on the disk, and so you can compile it yourself (after putting in one
or two cheats, like I did!)
