Article by Matt DeJonge
Back in 1985, I needed a RAM upgrade. My C-64
was not able to handle the mailing list my
family had running on it. So, the options were
narrowed down to two; the C-128 or the new Atari
520ST. The choice was clear and soon I upgraded
my ST to 1 meg.
I began to dabble in programming and quickly
felt at home within the interpreter of GFA BASIC
and its utilities. I wrote several programs for
my own personal use, but never took anything I
did seriously. I explored all aspects of my
Atari including DTP, artwork, sound and music.
After subscribing to GEnie a year ago, I was
thrust into information heaven. Inspired by
what I saw online, I decided to begin writing
a game. After running into several bumpers, I
began asking some questions, which led me to
Dave.
We talked a while and he asked if I had done
any graphics work before. I showed him some
stuff and soon he was asking me to help him
on some emergency artwork for SeaWolf 95.
After it was finished, Dave asked me to begin
work on MegaSpace and Square Off. With Square
Off out the door, and with my first release
under my belt, I feel very confident about
our upcoming Choplifter 95 and MegaSpace
releases. I'm sure you'll all enjoy them.
As for the future, well, I'm selling my
TT and buying a Falcon. I want to begin
to broaden my horizons graphically by
slowly moving into 24-bit true color.
Rendering is a small passion of mine, and
I've worked with several PD/shareware
titles, but eventually want to move on. But
for now, we'll be sticking with the ST.
