SQUARE OFF can be very addicting. But that's
the nature of the game. It starts out simple
enough, but if you want to make it to the
higher levels or complete all 20 levels in
ARCADE mode there is a couple of tips I
can give you. During the development of this
game I became somewhat of a SQUARE OFF master.
Easily defeating all challangers.
CLASSIC AND ARCADE MODE:
In these modes each time you play you will be
up against the same sequence of blocks each
time. So obviously if you can get a feel for
which block is coming next this will help you
out a great deal.
But the main thing that I have found out is to
ALWAYS keep the sides somewhat full and try to
keep the center of the playfield clear. And most
imortantly ALWAYS go for a row clear whenever
possible. Don't STACK EM unless you are sure
you know what sequence of blocks are coming. I
personally don't worry about the score as much
as going to the next level! So take your time
and try to keep the middile clear if possible.
Another technique that only the MASTERS will be
able to learn is the 1 eye on the current piece
and 1 eye on what next piece is going to fall.
This is also the key to a higher scoring game.
When you LOCK in a piece and you know where it
is going to fall, start glancing up at the next
piece that will be falling. This way you get
MORE thinking time about where to put the next
piece. Very simple, but hard to master!
BATTLE MODE:
Remember there is no time limit, if you clear
rows to fast you'll end up playing at a harder
level than your opponent. If you can line up
4 rows than go for it, but you can also build
up alot of rows to GIVE to your opponent by
rapidly clearing 2-3 rows at a time. Remember,
the amount of rows to give to your opponent
BUILDS up until their piece lands on something.
So go ahead and clear fewer lines FASTER rather
than waiting on 3-4 rows to be cleared.
