>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Below is a very short list of a couple of abbreviations and there
meanings. The next Issue I will go into much greater detail about
various computer jargon. (Lack of disk space kept this list -
VERY short!!)
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
S/S - Single Sided Disk.
D/S - Double Sided Disk.
Requires a DOUBLE SIDED disk drive to load the disk.
1 MEG - This program/disk requires 1 Megabyte of memory
(Random Memory Access or 'RAM' for short)
to load and use this program/disk.
STE ONLY - This means the program/disk will ONLY work on an
Atari-STE machine. If loaded on any non-STE Atari
computer it won't work.
NOT STE - This (surprisingly) means the program/disk will NOT
work on any STE computer, but WILL work on any non-STE
computer. (ie. ATARI 520 STFM, ATARI 1040ST etc.)
MONO - This means the program/disk needs a HIGH RESOLUTION
MONO MONITOR to work. (Such as the ATARI SM124 MONO
MONITOR). A normal tv/monitor won't work properly.
Although it is possible to use a MONOEMULATOR which
tricks your tv into thinking its a high resolution
monitor, but the picture will appear very small and
crampted, and the text might not be very easy to read.
The monoemulator might not won't work with all high
resolution programs, but appears to work with most.
KB - The letters KB refer to the DISK SIZE, KB means
Kilobyte. In the disk entry
for any given disk you will find a six-figured number,
for example 'DISK SIZE: 326455KB', this refers to the
actual size of the disk. As a rough estimate if you
take the first 3 digits of this number you will find
the disk size, thus this is about 326K.
(To confuse you more, although for an estimate we use
1000KB = 1K, to be precise it is actually 1024KB=1K).
