  14.                     POWER #16 - POWER WITHOUT THE PRICE

  17. Hi there everyone!  This is James L. Mathews presenting you with the 16th 
  18. issue of POWER which is entitled, 'POWER Without The Price'...Why?  Well, 
  19. because now that this disk magazine is Shareware and not licenceware, you 
  20. are getting POWER, but without the price!  Obvious!  Now that we're 
  21. Shareware, we can keep funds up (providing that you are honest!) but if you 
  22. don't enjoy the issue (as if you couldn't enjoy POWER!), then you don't 
  23. have to register...Anyway, for registering, you will get a few extra's but 
  24. for more information about that, read the 'REGISTERING THIS ISSUE OF POWER' 
  25. article in the 'INFO' section.

  27. Well, as you've probably noticed by now, we're trying out a slightly 
  28. different format to usual.  Please write in and tell me what you think.  
  29. This issue has seen quite a few changes actually.  For one, there's the 
  30. layout in the selection menu and also in a few of the columns and regulars.  
  31. Also, we're saying goodbye to THE WEIRD CORNER and seeing the BITS AND 
  32. BOBS section returning!  Also, there's the birth of quite a few new 
  33. regulars and columns including a return of the infamous Mark Hitch with a 
  34. new star signs regular which will keep you up-to-date with your stars.  
  35. We've also got another new section called 'CONTACT NEWS'.  This section 
  36. contains a few lines on a few of my contacts that contribute to POWER and 
  37. what they are doing.  The reason for this new section is because a lot of 
  38. you say that you want to know more about what's happening behind the 
  39. scenes.  Apparently, most of you found the article I wrote a while back 
  40. about what goes into making POWER quite interesting and would like more 
  41. similar material...Well, we listen to our feedback so we'll see what we can 
  42. do for you.  
  43.  
  44. Talking of feedback, we've changed the 'YOUR OPINION OF POWER' form 
  45. slightly so if you would be so kind as to fill that in for us, it will help 
  46. us to improve POWER for you.
  47.  
  48. Well, this issue is simply jam packed full of articles, reviews, features, 
  49. columns, regulars, competitions, P.D. and much more and I'll go into the 
  50. content of this issue a bit more later in this file.

  52. This issue has been sent out to at least 300 people.  That means that not 
  53. only are we the most POWERful disk mag in the ST scene but it means that we 
  54. have lots of new readers so especially for you, we have a special little 
  55. article in the 'FEATURES' section which tells you a little bit about what 
  56. you have missed and what POWER is all about.  
  57.  
  58. For the benefit of those that still don't understand and also, all those 
  59. readers, let me explain what each section that POWER is split up into 
  60. means...
  61.  
  62.  
  63. REGULARS - This is a part of the mag which appears every month in POWER but 
  64. doesn't require any feedback for it.  E.G. The News Section.
  65.  
  66. COLUMNS  - This is a part of the mag which appears every month in POWER but 
  67. requires feedback to keep it running. E.G. The Letters Column.
  68.  
  69. ADVERTS  - Simply advertisements from other people.
  70.  
  71. INFO     - Information on POWER etc.  E.G. How to subscribe.
  72.  
  73. ARTICLES - An article is a text file which only appears once in POWER (i.e. 
  74. unlike a column or regular) and teaches you something.  E.G. How to 
  75. program.
  76.  
  77. FEATURES - A feature is a text file which only appears once in POWER (i.e. 
  78. unlike column or regular) but it doesn't teach you anything.  It is simply 
  79. a once off text file and although CAN be serious, usually isn't.  E.G. 
  80. Jokes.

  83. I hope that all that is clear now.

  85. A bug has been reported which I actually knew about but I'm not sure 
  86. whether I've mentioned it or not.  The bug is in this shell and although 
  87. rarely happens (if at all) HAS been spotted by a few of you.  The problem 
  88. is that sometimes, when loading up a file, the screen will just go blank 
  89. and stay like that.  This problem is caused by lack of memory I believe 
  90. (i.e. all you RAM has been used up).  The smaller memory you have, the more 
  91. likely this is to happen.  If this DOES happen, don't worry, simply turn 
  92. your computer off for about 30 seconds and then load up POWER again and all 
  93. should work fine.  This will do no harm whatsoever to your beloved ST.

  95. Another note about the shell; In a few cases, there may be a file which 
  96. seems to have come to an end but it may not have.  Many people are exiting 
  97. files before the end has been reached, not realising that they had not 
  98. finished the file.  To check whether you have finished or not, always check 
  99. the counter at the bottom of the screen which says what line is being 
  100. displayed out of the total amount.  The counter displays the line number of 
  101. the top line on the screen.  Please bare that in mind when reading a file.
  102.  
  103. With regards to this shell, we should be getting it updated in July if all 
  104. goes well but we are unable to do so at the moment due to time limitations.  
  105. We have lots of new ideas to improve the shell greatly so keep your eyes 
  106. peeled!

  108. Changing the subject completely, I would like to admit to a mistake that I 
  109. made in issue 15 of POWER.  It is to do with the review of the excellent 
  110. new release from SILLY SOFTWARE...MOBSTERS CITY.  In the review, I stated 
  111. that the program had been coded in STOS; this was incorrect.  Please 
  112. forgive me everyone...I know it'll be hard but I just hope that you can all 
  113. bring yourself to put this dreadful mistake behind us...I hope it won't 
  114. damage our friendship!

  116. With regards to MOBSTERS CITY, incase you don't know what the hell I'm 
  117. talking about, it's a new game from the new licenceware company, SILLY 
  118. SOFTWARE and is sold at £2.50.  It obtained a 'POWER PLUS AWARD' for 
  119. gaining a massive 90%  If you would like to obtain a copy, write directly
