The last month has brought tens and tens of letters concerning The Hobbit,
going Shareware and lots of other chat, opinions, slaggings off, praises
and all the rest of it so here's a pick of what I have had over the last
month...
*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-
Dear POWER,
Congratulations on going Shareware. I believe that it was the
best thing to do. The funding from going licenceware showed and it proved
that funds WERE beneficial to us but as you say, it was too restrictive and
very limiting to POWER. I think if you had simply gone into the P.D.
scene, POWER would have suffered. Going Shareware is an option that
providing we're all honest enough (don't worry, I will be!), it will work
and POWER will continue to go from strength to strength.
Keep up the good work!
From Gary Arts
POWER REPLIES:
Yes, I too am hoping that it will work out and as you say, providing you're
all honest, there's no reason why it shouldn't!
*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
Dear POWER,
Who the hell does The Hobbit think he is? First he has a go at
Ryan and then expects a refund on the licenceware issues that he actually
payed for just because you're going shareware. Why do you put up with him?
I know that this has been said quite a few times now but I don't know why
you bother with him. If I were you, I'd just throw his letters in the bin
without even bothering to read all the insults. He's obviously got nothing
better to do with his life than ruin others.
From David King
POWER REPLIES:
The Hobbit certainly does have his fair share of insults but as a POWER
reader, he should have the right to express his views whether he's being
serious or just does it for kicks. I read ALL mail and I can't just choose
to read letters from people who shower me with compliments...Although I
like to!
*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
Dear POWER,
Hello POWER readers! James, it'll be good to see POWER as
Shareware and I am looking forward to seeing issue 16 and hope that it is
as good as issue 15 was. Issue 15, as always was an excellent issue of
POWER and I'm sure that now that POWER is Shareware, the standards will
rise even more if that's possible!
Chris Sharp, in your Chit Chat you said you were a bit reluctant to enter
any POWER competitions because you never win. I used to think the same
because I've never won anything in my life but I've entered quite a few
competitions in POWER and have won a fair few too! If you don't enter, you
can't win. Anyway, I rung up James with the answer for the Hidden
Competition last month and found that you had already claimed it! When did
you ring, it must have been extremely early in the month because I rung the
day I got issue 15. Well done for winning though mate and there you go, your
first win in POWER disk magazine...Just don't do it again!!!!
From Desire
*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
Dear POWER,
I was reading issue 15 of POWER which, contrary to your comments,
was excellent. I got to the letters column which I enjoy reading and I saw
a letter from Bruce Long. With all due respect to him, I don't agree with
what he said at all. I think the rate at which POWER is changing is
brilliant, your changes of columns keeps POWER up-to-date with the times
and keeps it looking and feeling fresh. Keep it up, I have agreed with all
your changes so far and every issue, POWER gets better. You're doing the
right thing!
From Peter Chui
*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
Dear POWER,
I just want to say a public hello to No One from the messages
column last month - I'll talk to ya mate - Hello, nice weather we're having
isn't it? Hope you had a nice Easter! Bye!
There!
While I'm writing, how comes Peter Shilling and Mark Hitch are keeping so
quiet lately? Come on...SHOUT OUT LOUD!!!
From Coot
POWER REPLIES:
Peter recently got back from a long trip away from sunny Britain and he's
off again soon so he doesn't really have time. As for our worldly Mark
Hitch, best known for his large, ROUND THE WORLD series, he's taking it
easy and keeps promising me some new stuff soon...
*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
Dear POWER,
I'm replying to the letter that the Hobbit sent in for the
last issue of POWER in which he took the piss out of me. Firstly, he
reffered to me as someone who wears anoraks and throws myself in front of
tracters to save the environmental home of the caterpillar. I think he got
this idea from a program called Luv on BBC1 on a Wednesday night. One of
the Characters called Darwin wears an arorak and is an animal rights campaigner.
I don't wear anorks Mr Hobbit , but the second suggestion was quite good -
why don't you throw yourself in front of a tracter - you'd be doing us all
a favour. I have never liked you much - You seem to get off slagging
everyone off. You've slagged off a lot of my contacts, you slag off James...
You seem to slag off everyone! I never felt much cause for concern because
you had never slagged me off, but now that you have, I'm well pissed off,
and I'm sure that's what you want.
You also said, "wouldn't you rather have a rat suffer pain than your
family". Well, what right do we have to do that to the rat, just because
the rat can't tell us that it dosen't want to do the experiment? Does that
justify us doing it? I don't think so. And I think most people will
agree with me on the next point - If we had to do an experiment, we
shouldn't do it on animals - we should do it on idiots like you!
You referred to the word "typed" a few times as well. All the infomation
that I use comes from leaflets, books and magazines. I have the full
permission to use this so I'm not breaking any copyright laws by doing it,
and the articles aren't, "being forced down your throat" as you said. There
probaby ARE some people who agree with animal testing who read POWER, but
at least they don't write in abusive letters slagging me off. I have been
praised by James and loads of other people in POWER for what I've done and
I've only had one complaint, and let's face it - you complain about
everything. Take for example the messages column, Ian S. (Sorry I don't
know your surname) sent in a complementary message and all of my contacts
said that it was a good thing I was doing so you're very out numbered.
I also have some good news for the Hobbit - I've done an entire disk full
of animal rights text files, over 350k of pure ASCII and you've inspired
me to do even more animal rights article just for you, ha ha ha, and
there's even more good news - it's nearly finished, and when it is I'm
gonna send it to over 60 P.D. libraries and spread it around everywhere and
upload it to BBS's and there's also a PC version, so stitch that Jimmy!!!
You seem to think that you are in some way better than everybody else.
I'm not blowing my own trumpet but I've sent in over 400k of articles for
POWER. What have you done? Let's see now, all you've done is a few crap
messages and some insulting letters - big smegging deal! There only seems
to be one person that likes you (Part Deux) and even he told you to go
easy on the insulting.
Why don't you go and buy an Amiga, 'coz none of the POWER readers want
you. You had a hell of a nerve asking for your money back for POWER. I
thank James for defending me in his reply to your letter and I look
forward to seeing your reply to this letter, you big lump of sh*t (pardon
my french !). And remember...
DEATH TO THE HOBBIT !
Fron A Well Pissed Off Ryan 'The Hobbit Hater #2' Simpson
POWER REPLIES:
Er...Is there any need for anymore to be said on the subject? I think the
Hobbit has met his match!
*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
Dear POWER,
You asked for our views in last month's letter about ATARI and
how good they are as a company and I must agree with Ian. ATARI have
brought everything on themselves, they've got the knowledge, they've got
the expertese but in this day and age, it isn't so much the quality of a
product which sells, it's the hype of it all, how fashionable it is and
basically, sales go on how much the product is advertised. It seems as if
everyone at ATARI has a phobia about advertising though...They just don't
know what it is and many would say that that's there problem because it's
them losing out on sales, not us. The problem is that if there aren't
enough users, the whole market suffers and that is the postition we're in
at the moment.
Like you James, I think that the Jaguar is going to be advertised well and
take off and ATARI will abandon the computer market and move over to
consoles.
From Wayne Redrick
*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
Dear POWER,
Why does The Hobbit have to sound off the way he does? Last month,
his target was Ryan Simpson. After all that Ryan has done for POWER and
the little that The Hobbit has done, I don't think that he was in a
position to critisise Ryan. I just hope that Ryan and all others he has
insulted haven't taken it to heart and continue their supporting of POWER.
From Ian S.
POWER REPLIES:
Me too!
