'EE'S LOST HIS MARBLES
BY JAMES L. MATHEWS OF POWER DISKZINE.....(QUICK PLUG THERE)
AVAILIBLE FROM POWERFIST PRODUCTIONS OR JAMES HIMSELF
REVIEWED BY DEANO OF SILLY SOFTWARE
Well it seems that even though adventures have progressed to the
likes of Secret of Monkey Island the old original 'text' based
adventures are still quite popular. This one from James proves that
the older adventures are still quite additive.
Ee's lost his marbles is a text based STAC adventure about an old man
who has.......lost his marbles. Starting in his house he must travel
around and regain his memory. From the bedroom where you start you
can enter the different rooms of the house searching for clues and so
forth to aid you on your quest. As with most adventures there are
various objects lying around which can be taken and used, for example
in the kitchen you can find a 30 year old burnt sausage.
Leaving the house you enter your back garden and see a shed which is
locked leaving you to go and find the key first which itself is not
easy as there is at least two in the game. From here you stumble upon
an alleyway which can lead anywhere.
There are various puzzles to overcome and some nice touches, for
example if you swear at the game you die. The way its laid out holds
your attention for a good while and the parser is better than most
STAC or PD adventure games knocking about. The game does'nt really
have any graphics but one or two may appear in the game later.
The game is not only addictive but very very funny. Theres a joke
around every corner and its sure to make you laugh at some stage. In
fact more or less every bit of text is something amusing. A lot of it
is quite silly which is a good point in a game.
One or two normal jokes appear in the game were when you see them a
few times you tend to get fed up of them but most are silly based so
you could still find it amusing months later.
VERDICT:
A new idea, a brilliant parser, and packed with humour. This game is
excellent if you are an adventure fan. The game is licenceware and
priced at a low figure of just three pounds. It is a large well
thought out adventure which must have took a lot of hard work,
especially as there are 650 rooms plus 40 hidden ones. The game is
one megabyte only but certainly worth upgrading for.
RATING: 10 out of 10.....(SILLY GOLD)
