  15. Every month, I try to get an interview with at least one P.D.L. in the 
  16. series of P.D.L. OWNER INTERVIEWS.  I send the exact same interview to 
  17. different P.D.L.'s so as not to be biased in anyway and you can then get 
  18. an idea of the P.D.L. and it's owner(s).

  20. This month, in the hot seat is MERLIN P.D. who I'm sure you've all heard of 
  21. before.  I'm glad to say that MERLIN is a POWER APPROVED P.D.L.

  72. It is  important  that the programs sold under  this  semi-commercial 
  73. type  of  distribution  are  good enough  to  warrant  the  prices charged.

  75. DO YOU THINK SHAREWARE IS GOING TO SURVIVE?

  77. Yes,  only  because  of the enjoyment authors have in writing the programs, 
  78. not because of user support.

  86. Only marginally, not many people can afford the Falcon (us included).

  91. Yes, but  only  for  very few.  Most have put a  lot  of  effort  and 
  92. resources into getting where they are today.

  94. HOW DID YOU START OFF YOUR P.D.L?

  96. By advertising with a very  small catalogue and spreading the word at shows.

  98. HOW  LONG  DID  IT TAKE YOU TO GET YOURSELF  REALLY  GOING AND ESTABLISHED 
  99. PROPERLY?

  103. WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO PROGRAMMERS WHO ARE JUST ABOUT TO START A  
  104. NEW PROGRAM?

  106. Make sure that the program will be of use or enjoyable to the end user and 
  107. that it will run well and be compatible across the range (excluding Falcon 
  108. obviously).

  110. WHAT DO YOU LOOK FOR IN P.D?

  112. Originality,   presentaion  and  good doc. file without too many spelling 
  113. errors.

  148. OBSESSION  (due out very shortly - at present it will only be available 
  149. from Merlin) a pinball sim. program from Sweden.

  153. It  was popular with all my friends  at the time (approx. 1987).

  155. HOW DO YOU THINK THE ST COMPARES TO THE AMIGA?

  157. Superior as virtually  any type of machine although it does lose out a bit  
  158. in the games field.

  166. Support given to it by PD autors etc. and the ease of the GEM desktop 
  167. sytem.

  175. No, because we have done so.  We have PC and Apple computers also.

  180. No,  we run alongside and have no intention of leaving the Atari until

  257. Merlin is the only PD Library which offers customised disks at  no 
  258. extra  charge.   We  offer good service and  excellent  value  for 
  259. money.   We like to encourage authors as much as possible  because 
  260. without them there would be no us!

  262. Obsession is a new commercial game for 1meg STEs only and will  be 
  263. the  game for the Nineties.   The programming group  includes  the 
  264. author  of the ECD disk mentioned above and it will  be  available 
  265. from  the beginning of May at £24.95 and we have seen some  of  it 
  266. and think its great!

  268. We also strongly support the ST HANDBOOK which we think will  fill 
  269. a gap in the Atari market as it covers the main output of programs 
  270. now that the commercial scene is drying up.
  271.  
  272. We  do  not believe that the ST is dead and think that it  has  at 
  273. least another five years in it and we'll support it all the way!
