* THE SHAREWARE OPINION RESULTS *
*********************************
* COMPILED BY JAMES L. MATHEWS *
*********************************
You may remember last month, a small little opinion sheet to fill in to
give me an idea of what you thought about POWER going Shareware, how much
you were prepared to pay as a registration fee and what you expected in
return and so on. Well, the opinions flooded in and were greatly
appreciated as they really helped me to decide the details of going
Shareware.
Here is the information I gained from the results...
You ALL thought that taking POWER into the Shareware scene was a good
idea.
When it came to registration fees, some of you were prepared to pay upto £4
a month to register your copy of POWER. The lowest figure was £1 but the
most common figure was £2.
When you were asked if you would expect anything in return, a lot of you
replied with a no although there were quite a few who DID expect something
in return for parting with their hard-earned cash. The reason which was
given for not expecting anything in return from a lot of people was the
reason that when POWER was licenceware, they payed a higher price yet just
got a normal issue of POWER in return so why should they expect anything
else in return for registering? Fair enough I suppose!
When it came to whether you would register if there were no extra's, most
of you said yes but in practise, I wonder how many of you actually would
huh?!
Going by those results, I could charge £4 a month registration fee, offer
no extra's and get away with it. However, I'm not going to. The most
common figure for registration fees was £2, however, I had to take into
account that when you're filling in an opinion sheet, it's all in theory
and in practise, after a few months, you may find that £2 a month is too
much so, I decided to make the registration fee a smaller fee of £1.25.
When it came to extra's, it seemed that many of you didn't mind if I didn't
offer any extra's, but again, if there were no rewards for parting with
your cash when you could get away with NOT registering, it would probably
end up that many of you wouldn't register so as an extra, everyone that
registers will be given a password for that month. That password will then
allow them to enter special competitions, get extra prizes in the
competition club and get reductions on the new POWER MERCHANDISE which is
coming soon (see the appropriate article in this issue). Also, in some
issues, there will be some exclusive P.D. or articles on the disk which can
only be accessed by entering the password.
I think that the lower registration fee and the higher level of extra's
should keep most happy. For more information on registering, see the
'REGISTERING POWER' article and I hope that you will all register with me
and help to fund POWER.
