DosAcc 1.5 - by Les Kneeling
What's on the disk?
DosAcc comprises of three files - DOS.ACC is the accessory
itself, DOSACC.RSC is the high resolution resource file, and
DOSACC3.RSC is the medium/low resolution resource file.
If you are using only high, or only med/low resolution it is
not necessary to have both files on your boot disk, DosAcc only
looks for the one it needs. If you are desperately short of disk
space you can use DOSACC3.RSC in all resolutions but it looks
scruffy in black and white.
What does it do?
Well, before you even call up the accessory DosAcc has done
some work. If there was a DESKTOP.INF file on the boot disk the
colour and keyclick settings will be activated. This is so that
you do not have to use CONTROL.ACC, more of this later.
When you call the accessory up the first dialog box shows:
FREE MEMORY The memory remaining unallocated in the computer.
FREE DISK To use it click on the box, it will turn black and
then show you the free space remaining on the disk.
DATE Used to set the system date. To use, click on the box,
edit the display ( Esc will clear it ), hit return when
you have finished.
TIME See DATE. As you may have all ready guessed, this è function sets the system time.
ABCDEF This is the disk drive selector.
FORMAT DISK Click on the buttons to
choose a single or double sided disk, in drive
A or B, in normal or extended format. Extended
is ten sectors per track, 82 tracks.
SHOW FILES Used to display the directory of any disk. Includes
options to filter output.
OPEN Select a folder by clicking on the name in the
display panel. Click on "Open".
CLOSE Click on "Close" and the folder will be closed
and its parent directory shown.
NEW To create a new directory - hit backspace until
the wildcards ("*.*) are deleted in the path
display. Type in the name of the folder and click
on "New".
ERASE Choose the name of a file or an empty folder by
clicking on the display panel, then click on
"Erase" and click on the dialog box that appears,
to confirm. This routine will not erase a folder
which contains files.
PRINTOUT A listing of the current directory is dumped to the
printer in three columns. The typeface used can
be set up from the PRINTER dialog. If the printer
is not on-line DosAcc will not accept the click.
The listing can be stopped at the end of any line
by hitting any key.
COPY Click on the name of the file you want to copy, then
on the "Copy" button. Edit the path display until
it shows the path/filename of where you want the
file copied, then hit RETURN. The progress of the
copy will be shown in the path display. This is
not recommended for copying across disks on a single
drive machine!
RENAME Click on the name of the file then on "Rename". Type
the new name into the path display and hit return.
If you make a mistake hit "Esc" to clear the display
then hit RETURN.
INFO Click on the name of the file then on "Info". A
dialog showing the details of the file and the
attribute status. The file attributes can be changed
by clicking on the appropriete gadget.
PRINTER
This selection also brings up a new dialog box. The
current system printer settings are shown in the
top and these can be changed in the obvious way.
The lower half contains additional settings for
an Epson compatible 9-pin printer. Since it is not
possible to read the starting position from the
printer it is advisable to start by clicking on
"Reset", after that everything is straightforward.
KEYCLICK This button enables or disables the keyclick.
CONTROL.ACC Although DosAcc will activate the settings for
colour and bell, it cannot set them. So until such
time as I get round to writing the companion
program it is necessary to use the control panel
to set these.
