FIRE AND ICE - RENEGADE - £25.95 originally now around £12
Fire and Ice is a platform game from Renegade featuring a cute
creature called Cool Coyote. The idea of the game is to guide Cool
Coyote through seven worlds of mayhem collecting coins, bones, gold
cutlery and anything else he can get his hands on.
Of course things aren't going to be easy as there are many enemies
that you have to destroy along the way. Unlike most games, you don't
just fire at the enemy, instead you freeze 'em!
It takes several shots to freeze the enemy and a few more to totally
destroy them. You can also freeze them and then simply walk into them
crushing them into a thousand pieces!
You must hurry though as the enemy is only frozen temporarily.
Your main task though is to collect pieces of broken key in order to
make one complete key so that you can gain access to the next level.
There is always something to keep you moving as the enemies don't just
sit around waiting to be shot at.
Who are your enemies?
Well it depends what world you are in. In the underwater world there
are nasty prehistoric creatures and crabs on the attack, whilst in
other worlds there are some unexplainable looking monsters with
snarling teeth and weird hairdos!
There are many nice touches in the game such as cadging a lift on a
turtle or being able to freeze the clouds showering you in snowballs
that you can collect for points.
You really are going to have to work hard in order to get through all
the levels, especially the last level which is set in Egypt.
Here, you come up against some nasty fire creatures and a wizard which
will take some beating, believe me!
The graphics throughout are excellent and if you have an STE then you
get the full 4,096 colour pallette too.
Animation of the creatures and Cool Coyote is excellent and really
adds to the realism of the game. The best part of the game is
amazingly (for the ST) the sound.
The music is atmospheric with great echoey effects and a different
tune plays on each level. The sound effects are inventive too. The
whole game has a polished look to it and simply oozes with style and
has many imaginitive touches that make it stand out from other
platform games. If I said that it easily matches Super Mario Bros for
addictiveness and style then you will probably get an idea of the sort
of game it is. It's been around a while so it's now selling for around
£12
Go and get it now!
